Feb. 4 It football time!!! Actually football time is over……but it was the super bowl today and it was great. Not perfect though ----- none of the actual super bowl commercials were broadcast over here. Can you believe that?! I really did have a good time though. We all got over to the bar at like 8 and by “we” I mean a huge group of girls. The guys choose not to show up until much later……yes we made fun of them for that. The game didn’t actually start until 11:30 so we watched a rugby game for a while. I really don’t understand that game at all. We watched really closely but about the time we thought we had a pattern something different would happen. Then we got distracted from our search for a pattern ... read more

So it was time i actually got out of London for the weekend and what better oportunity than to go meet up with someone i met in London who invited me up to show me around a different part of England. So after working at the pub till 3am i managed to catch the 1450 train from Paddington which got me into Evesham at bout 5pm. Starting to get a bit on the darker side but still went for a walk along the river and around a bit of Evesham, but in the dark theres not alot to see really. We got back to the flat and had some dinner and got ready for a night out. Was actually a good night out, i enjoyed myself. The next day we went for a tiki tour to ... read more

It's been almost two days since my arrival, and I am loving this place already. Let me start at the beginning... Friday, February 2: My mom, sister and I drove to Fort to carpool to Chicago with Anna and her parents. We thought we'd be late, but of course we got to the airport several hours early. Checking in wasn't a problem...unless you count my 15-pounts-overweight luggage! I already knew I would have to pay the $50 fee, though, so it was OK. Much cheaper than shipping it all, I discovered when I called the post office. Besides, my beautiful hot-pink luggage (birthday present!) is heavy-duty and very heavy! Saying goodbye to Mom and Andrea got a little emotional - I hate goodbyes! I cried for this one, of course, but had also teared up when ... read more

Hello There! Well today marks the one-month date of when I left the states! It has FLOWN by. I had no idea! I also hear that it is negative teens with wind chills in numbers I can't even count to. I gotta say...I've been snickering a fair amount over here. It's gotten beautiful with the weather being sunny and in the mid-fifties. I don't think I'll ever leave! This weekend was my final weekend of doing nothing and loving it. Friday was a class day so I had two classes which was unusual but we are skipping classes on Thursday next week so it's alright with me. That night I decided to go out with a girl from eau claire that I know, but never really hung out with. The rest of the girls I usually ... read more

Finally experienced the Knighton townies last night. Myself and my pack of American friends went into town to try to find a coffee bar. Since I've been here I've really gotten into drinking cappucinos etc. and I also wanted to find a good place to stake out at night and write papers. We didn't quite find that, but we did find a Spanish bar that sold really cheap (1.80) bar tapas and bread with olive oil. We went back and forth between that place and an incredibly cheap and friendly Kebab stand (TJ's Flames). Arun and I both got the humus wrap, and it was definitely better than anything I've had in the states. All of the people who told me that British food was rubbish underestimated the overwhelming amount of authentically ethnic restaurants throughout Britian. ... read more

Hi everyone! I’m trying this travel website thing to keep in touch and hopefully post some interesting photos of Europe. I figure it’s a bit more convenient and more fun than sending out loads of emails. I’ll try to update every once in a while. So here’s what it’s been like, in a very broad sense, so far: The food isn’t as bad as I’ve heard it to be, but there are a lot of strange foods/combinations of foods that I’ve never seen in America. I’ve been attempting to try some new dishes and for the most part have liked them. There are set meal times though. Breakfast is from 8-9.30, lunch is from 12-2, dinner is from 6-7. It’s difficult working out my day around those times, because otherwise I’d have to pay a semi-expensive ... read more

7-am saw me up and taking the dog out for his walk on this frosty morning, the grass white over and the ground hard but despite that the sky was clear and the sun was rising. Today was to be the first ride out of the year with the Three Shires branch of the Honda Owners Club. Most of the party had camped out over the night at a farm on the B6056 near Eckington, Sheffield, but at this time of year I preferred to be a little warmer so I decided just to join them for the run out on the bikes on the Saturday. With the dog back at home, I changed into my leathers with thermals underneath and text the group to let them know I was on my way. I was un-certain ... read more

On Saturday I celabrated another national day in London, this time Waitangi Day, the national day of New Zealand, as a couple of NZers in the flat, and most of Karens rugby team. It seemed so much bigger than Australia Day because they did what was called the Circle Line Crawl, where 9,000 (as reported) people start from 10am on the underground circle line stops and travel all day around, to end up in front of Big Ben to watch the Haka. There was a whole group of girls from Stuart Rd (where im living at the moment) and about 10 other friends kept as close as we could together all day, so was pretty fun. We started off at Notting Hill Gate, and it was 11am and already the streets were absolutly packed and ... read more

Waitangi day 2007 “On the weekend closest to Waitangi Day, New Zealanders in London come out in droves to show their pride. This is one of the biggest and best days out in London all year! Last year there were over 8000 participants and this year looks to be even bigger to please remember to be courteous and polite to any shocked looking tube-travellers on the day. Be at Paddington around 10am for kick-off and see how far you can make it. Bring booze, costumes, and a thirsty liver! “ For more info see: http://www.waitangidaylondon.com/tipsandadvice.htm We’ll Conor and I woke up a little late (10am) and had a quick breakfast and jumped on the tube. Me dressed in my Tui shirt with my NZ Silverfern flag as a cape, we arrived at Paddington station to a ... read more
