hi everyone, Well I am back safe and sound from a fantastic trip to Paris. The train ride there and back was very nice and the three hours went by very quickly. Saturday was busy with trips to lots of sights. We started out by going to the Eiffel Tower and went right to the top to get a great view of Paris. We then went to Luxembourg Gardens for a lovely lunch and a chance to look at some great gardens and a very nice Palace. After that, we went to the Orsay to look at some fantastic modern art. We then made our way back across the Seine to get on the Champs d' Elysees and walked all the way up to the arc d'Triomphe. We then made our way back towards our hostel ... read more

It could be a beautiful image, lone woman on an empty country train platform, looking down the tracks, wind gently blowing her hair. Could be. Instead it was me, in a cloud of expletives, laden down like a pack donkey, waddling along the tracks, hair blowing into my mouth. And so I waited for British Rail to whisk me away from my home for the last 6 months, 'The Boot' in Lapworth. Thats right, six months of slaving away as a bar wench in a a small town on the outskirts of Birmingham. Sounds bleak. Not really though. I've loved almost every minute of my time with the amazing Boot people who've looked after me so well. Time has flown by, just when I'd remembered all the regulars drinks, knew all the village gossip and started ... read more

Well there's no point to this entry except to get things off the mark. It's one month to go till my trip and I'm starting to get a little nervous, not least because I've got to sort out renting out my house, finding a home for all my junk (including car!) and generally making sure I haven't forgotten anything important. ... read more

Our first taste of Haggis on Robbie Burns day! Address to a Haggis. Fair fa' your honest, sonsie face, Great chieftain o the puddin'-race! Aboon them a' ye tak your place, Painch, tripe, or thairm: Weel are ye wordy of a grace As lang's my arm. The groaning trencher there ye fill, Your hurdies like a distant hill, Your pin wad help to mend a mill In time o need, While thro your pores the dews distil Like amber bead. His knife see rustic Labour dight, An cut you up wi ready slight, Trenching your gushing entrails bright, Like onie ditch; And then, O what a glorious sight, Warm-reekin, rich! Then, horn for horn, they stretch an strive: Deil tak the hindmost, on they drive, Till a' their weel-swall'd kytes belyve Are bent like drums; The ... read more

So we found a flat!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The most Beautiful, lovely, charming little flat!!!! It’s over some shops in the center of the Blackheath Village - which means spitting distance from the train station and a stumbling distance from the local bars. Pending references it’s ours next Saturday. It’s over 3 floors and it has a little back patio that makes both Sarah and I feel like we’re in Paris. We’re planning tanning parties (topless of course) out there and are envisioning an extensive herb garden. “Oh you’d like some mint in your freshly brewed steeper? Well - lemme go outside and pick you some of my homegrown herbs.” (Ha! Give us two weeks- we’re sure to start off strong and then turn all the lovely flowers and herbs into a desert….but we have lofty plans nonetheless). Thank ... read more

Bath is a heritage listed town approximately 100miles outside of London. Once again, we were very lucky to have absolutely magnificent weather. Our first port of call was organising the open top bus tour of Bath - this gave us a bit of history about the town and allowed us to find our bearings and work out where else we wanted to visit throughout the day. Bath reached its peak during the Georgian era between 1714 and 1837. It became an extremely popular destination for the rich and privileged who came to take in the healing properties of Baths spa healing ... read more
