Although I like to think of myself as an excellent correspondent, I know from the many, many comments from many, many of you that I can fall a bit short of the mark from time to time. The suggestion has come to me from time to time that perhaps I could set up a blog (with photos) so that you could all at least know where I am or where I have recently been. I have taken your advice and here we go. Being a complete computer ignoramus, it may take me a while to get the hang of everything that I can do on this site, but bear with me. I hope that by keeping this more or less up to date, I will feel less far away to so many of you. Comments and ... read more

Hi All, Am sitting in a little internet cafe in Hammersmith with my friend Katie! Caught my first Tube alone today so I am officially a Londoner so Katie tells me! I was going to attach some photo's but these computers are slightly behind the times and don't actually have a USB plug! Never mind! The flight was pretty good over here actually. I even ran into a girl I went to Pembroke with (in the year above) on the plane! Mark H - apparently she knows your girlfriend!! Bizarre who you run into... Katie was brilliant yesterday and dragged me to quite a few different places! I will pop some pics in the next blog! We checked out a Exhibition that had Monet, Van Gough, Renoir etc. Was really good to finally see the real ... read more

Tuesday was officially the last day of my Absolute Africa trip - very sad. I was up early to write my jounal before we all checked out of the Manor & walked back to Ashanti Lodge to unpack & clean out the truck for the final time. The entire front grassed area of Ashanti was covered in clothes & souvenirs as the group discarded excess gear & tried fitting everything else into our packs. After checking into the dorms, I headed off for a few hours at the internet before returning to Ashanti & getting ready for our last group dinner. We walked to a game restaurant & I had the Eland Steak, which was a bit overcooked & nowhere near as tasty as my trusty Swakopmund Springbok, but yummy none the less. With dinner finished, ... read more

Mondays LOW: Feeling too sick to function. Mondays HIGH: Top Banana with the guys! Tuesdays LOW: Frantically looking for books in the most confusing lib in the world. Tuesdays HIGH: Compliments on dinner and watching a hilarious YouTube video. (http://youtube.com/watch?v=10VmJ-8XGA4) Wednesdays LOW: CANNIBALISM CLASS! Wednesdays HIGH: Interesting convo after dinner. So on Monday I had 4 classes, and a presentation in one of them. Mondays are definitely the longest day. I went to my first two classes and in the second one got the WORST stomach ache, I could barely walk. I went back to my room to lay down and missed my third class. But recovering gave me more time to prepare for my presentation in my film class and I felt better after a couple hours. The presentation went well, I actually felt like ... read more

After a wonderful 6 week break in sunny south africa, i returned to begin Adventure Part 2. Spent some lovely days with Johnny and Helen in Grateley, gathering my thoughts an belongings, before retrieving my bike from Chester, and heading onto Cardiff. Llandough Hospital has an awesome hand therapy department with the most fantastic opportunities to learn and grow. My colleagues are wonderful girls and together they make up a really tight and efficient team. The accomodation is nice - my flatmates tend to come and go, and at the moment am living with a psychiatrist, paediatrician, an A & E doctor and a nurse! Quite a mixture! We share dining room, kitchen and lounge, but have our own en suite bathroom which is great!... read more

Before I knew it was Wednesday and I was on the tubes heading towards Heathrow to meet Leah and her travelling friend Reg. After a long and loud greeting, we had a talkative journey back to Maida Vale and Leah’s new flat. I introduced her to her new flatmate, Irene, and got some dinner from her soon to be favourite takeaway place, the Chinese shop at the end of our road. I took the day off work on Thursday to show Leah the sights of London and teach her how to navigate around the big city. We headed down to Oxford Street to have a look at some of the large department and clothing stores including Selfridges. We meet my friend Andy (who also came to Edinburgh) to have lunch in St. Christopher’s Place before he ... read more

It's the big day today and woke up to a happy b'day balloon Karen left me. Was a beautiful day, so took mums sugestion and got myself on the London Eye. The view was amazing because of the weather. Lines, like most things ive been to were small so was able to jump straight on. Walked along the Southbank to Shakespears Globe and did a bit of a tour as well. Isn't the season for performances, but its obviously a day out for school kids, while i was there they were acting out Merchant of Venice. I did an essay on the Globe and other theatres of the day for International Business so was pretty good to see. Walked over the new bridge to St Pauls then walked all the way up Fleet St and The ... read more

Stephen Clarke has a whole series of books dedicated to explaining how different France and French people are from the Brits. In his books he writes in detail about his astonishment at the French lack of customer service and their extensive and tangled bureaucratic processes. Clearly I can never move to France. If the French system is a lot more cumbersome and rude than the British way of doing things, I suspect I would last about a day before blowing a gasket. Sarah and I have spent the last two days dealing with two seeming minor things: getting our mobile phones set up, and dealing with the Bank. Getting a British bank account set up quickly is apparently a test of will and a feat of strength. We thought we were so smart to get the ... read more
