Hello hello :D Just another little note before things get crazy around here. The hotel's been under renovations for the past little while and that's always a blast with a 400 y/o building! Ceilings falling in, windows leaking, etc lotsa good fun. The amount of tourists on the island is on steady increase and Easter weekend is setting up to be a mob! We've got 4 new people coming the end of this week so getting everyone organized and on the same page should be an experience. Two of those people are moving into the caravan with Dave & I so hopefully everyone gets along since it's such a small space. We've been meeting some new friends and spending more time with the locals, everyone is so great. The new chef at the Calgary hotel, ... read more

Got on the way from Oban and went up and travelled basically on the edge of all the lochs, Linney, Lochy, and Oink, went passed Bein Nevis the highest mountain, got out at a local stop and had some free single malt whisky. We stopped at this bridge were there was a story about the two rival clans the MacDougles and the MacDonalds and a wedding story, anyway there was a local saying that the river will make you beautiful for the next 10years, so we all proceeded to put our heads in this freezing cold river for 10sec, quite fun woke us all up. It was then another uphill hike to a great lookout just before Flodigarry, great scenery. We got down to out hostel in the middle of nowhere (suprised about the lack of ... read more

On the 12th headed to the Haggis station and got on the yellow bus with 17 others (mostly Aussie) and Fergis the Scotish guide/driver. He has heaps of little stories that Icant remember perfectly so will just have to tell u when it triggers my memory. We got to Sterling and went up the 10 min vertical walk (loved that at 9.30 in the morning) up to the William Wallace monument. Views wearnt that great because of the weather but cleared the lungs well. At the bottom they have a replica of Mel Gibson, not well recieved by the Scottish folk as the film is nothing like what actually took place. We then went through the valley of Glencoe which was pretty spectacular. A few castles latter we are in the largest town were going to ... read more

Well the forest rally has come and gone... seemed to be quite a good weekend. Although Dave and I didn't get to see much of it since we were working the whole time... kind of a trend starting I think. We haven't been that busy this month, a wee bit boring actually. And work is a bit unsure at the moment, since it seems the staff are all about to cut and run. We both really like Nick and Debbie so hopefully things work out, we'll just have to wait and see. The island is quite secluded and it would be easier if we had a car (you know me always picking the most difficult places to live ;) But in general it is such a wonderful place, the summer is going to be so different ... read more

Hi All :) Just a note to say we made it through the holidays away from home. We definately missed spending it with friends and family but also enjoyed the differences. The dance was great, it was just too bad it wasn't on all night. Just when I was getting up the nerve to try a traditional scottish dance "last song of the night" came over the mic! Shoot! oh well next time I'll try to learn same steps. Chatted most of the night with a friendly couple from Glasgow (David & Katherine) who offered a room when we are in the city next. Unfortunately I didn't get any pics since I forgot the camera. Here are some scenic ones though, from our many walks around the area. The restaurant is slowing down now but the ... read more

Wow!! I owe you all my apologies it has been a long time coming for this entry!! I'm still kicking about and want to wish you all a very belated Merry Christmas and all the best in 2007!!! I've been hard at work for the last two months now so not too much to report..... I've managed to sneek in a few pictures of my working destination on one of the few days of sun! Yup for the first 30 odd days that i arrived in Loch Goilhead nothing but rain....the worst they've seen in years i'm told!! Just my luck!! But all the same i spend most of my days inside working so it's not like a waste of a sunny day!! I arrived here jaw dropped at the gorgeous scenerie and seclusion of Drimsynie ... read more

Just a little holiday note from Dave and I :) Everything is going well here, the weather is still quite wet. Unusually wet we've been told, even for Mull. But we managed a great walk yesterday without getting soaked. There's a dirt trail that you can almost drive on the goes up the coast to Quinish Point. It's an amazing walk which I'm sure we'll do often. There will be pics coming of a beautiful rainbow we saw on the coast. Christmas was grand, we had a Christmas goose with Nick & Debbie. It seems though that Christmas isn't as big as New Year's here so the real celebrations will be tomorrow. Tonight everyone will leave the pub and head to their homes around 11:00 for the ringing of the bells at midnight. Then everyone goes ... read more

Hello again, Sorry there's a little gap there :) We got here OK and are in the middle of getting comfortable with our new jobs and meeting all the locals. It is very beautiful here, hard to compare with Waterton but the awe is the same. I don't think I'll ever get tired of the scenary. We are both very very happy, definately enjoying ourselves. It does rain a lot here and it's pretty much been raining since we got here, although yesterday and today seem to be showing more hope of blue skies. Our last two nights in Glasgow were great, didn't do a whole lot, but the hostel was very comfortable. Euro hostel is probably the best one we've been in so far, like a hotel with all it's amenities, but cheaper. We found ... read more

After a few days in Glasgow, we boarded a train to the port town of Oban on the west coast and took a ferry to the Isle of Mull where we began our first WWOOFing experience. WWOOF (Willing Workers On Organic Farms) is a worldwide organization placing volunteers on organic farms of all varieties. This farm was located on the far west end of Mull, an hours bus ride from the ferry. Mull is beautiful and feels quite remote, especially compared to where we've been. Most of it is farm land (sheep, cattle, and veg, as they say) spread among green, rolling hills and a few larger mountains. The farm we were on is a vegetable farm on a small croft of land about 100 yards from the rocky shore - a gorgeous setting. They have ... read more

God’s Country is a Scottish name for all of the Highlands, but our destination today particularly deserves this designation. The island of Iona is the most beautiful place I’ve ever been, and it also has a thriving religious community. It’s one of those wonderful unspoiled places that you read about in fairy tales and wish still existed. From Oban’s harbour, we took a ferry to the Island of Mull. Ally drove the bus onto the ferry, although we all got off and sat on the top deck. Sometimes you can see seals, minke whales, and even dolphins in this part of the Atlantic Ocean. I did catch a glimpse of a seal swimming with its head above water! I also saw a few “oil slicks,” smooth patches on the surface that indicate that a large ... read more
