Tuesday, August 7th - Isle of Skye to Isle of Mull: Since it is now almost a month later and I’m writing the final days (finally), I’m going to start with a quote from our lovely itinerary, “Call at the Clan Donald Centre for a visit to its MUSEUM OF THE ISLES and an insight into 13 centuries of clan history before boarding your ferry at Armadale to sail across the Sound of Sleat. Rejoin the mainland at Mallaig and follow the "Road to the Isles," pausing at Glenfinnan, the scene of the raising of Bonnie Prince Charlie’s standard in 1745; then follow the shores of lovely Loch Linnhe. The final l... read more

UK Roadtrip #1 June 28th - June 30th Anna and I set out on the evening of the 27th and took an 8-hour megabus up to Glasgow. Had a brief rest/freshen up the morning of the 28th at sufi family house of patrick and rosaleen (and her son liam who i hadn't seen in seven years!), and then on to helensburgh and in search of this tent state out in the boondocks. We were quite unsure of where we were going until we suddenly happened upon it. The first thing I noticed is that is was very quiet. I wondered if we were in the right place. The second thing I noticed was that it looked really small. All I could see was about 3 tents and a camper van, which perplexed me since when I ... read more

So here I am to explain my hopping around for the past month. I've been searching for quite awhile and there are a lot of jobs but it takes a good detective to sift through all the people trying to take advantage. I did a trial at the Ardanaisieg Hotel on Loch Awe that only lasted 3 days.... It's an absolutely amazing place (I posted all the pics) but not taking care of their staff. I did still work hard and enjoyed meeting the staff, but was shrugged off when I explained I wouldn't be staying. Accused of not giving any notice and ignored until I left - without paying me at all I might add. I should warn others from getting sucked into this hotel, they are actually breaking the law trying to pay ... read more

Jeanette and I were invited over by one of our classmates, Davina to stay in Lochgilphead for the weekend. I had no idea, of course, that Davina was actually a student teacher/property mogul. She put us up in one of her places, this one in the centre of town, a small apartment that’s been refurbished with all the modern amenities yet still retains its 18th, 19th century structure. Davina got a puppy 5 months ago and asked me if she could... read more

Traveled all the way back from Oban to Tunbridge Wells, about 525 miles from about 11am to 8pm. Felt awful all the way back and the two or three times we briefly stopped I felt like I was going to collapse. It was good to finally get back to the flat and some home comforts!... read more

After breakfast, where we discovered the woman who owned it had a daughter who now lived in Orpington, Kent so not far from where we lived we got the 9am ferry for the 5 hour trip back to Oban. Andy spent much of this lying down as he still felt pretty ill. We cycled back through Oban back to where we had left the car, at Oban sports centre and drove back to the same campsite we'd been previously to pitch there for the night. Unfortunately for me, we discovered Andy did not have food poisoning the night before and it was actually a vomiting bug. I spent a couple of hours sitting in the passenger seat of the car throwing up into some sick bags Andy had taken from the ship before getting back into ... read more

We left Birmingham (we stopped at Iain's last night to make the trip a bit easier) at 9am and 9 hours later we reached Oban on the west coast of Scotland. It's quite a busy port with views over to the Isle of Mull and has fairly rugged Highland scenery. We pitched up at the Oban Camping & Caravanning Park, about 1.5 miles south of the town on a windy thin road that followed the coast. It's a pretty cool campsite (though expensive at £10.50 for a pitch! ) The site also had several mallard ducks that constantly waddled the site. During the night a group of three males and one females slept next to our tent. The atmosphere was thick with midges so we sprayed on some of our Boots insect repellent. This only seemed ... read more

3.45am Good Friday morning was the start of our first trip out of London. Talk about getting the most out of your day :) We had to be at the airport bright and early (obviously), us and about 20 million other Londoners who were getting the hell out of London in search of sunshine (amusing considering London experienced beautiful weather over the break). Our first experience with check-in & security at Gatwick airport was that they were very thorough - I didn't even set off any alarms and I still had to take half my clothes off and get patted down! And I've never had my photo taken so many time between getting to the airport and getting on the plane. So after HOURS of security and crowds and god knows what else, Adam and I ... read more
