To be or not to be, that is the question. Or rather the question for us today was to go or not to go? Stratford-upon-Avon, the birthplace of William Shakespeare was our destination. We rented a car for the day and after a less than jovial car rental employee finally gave us a car, we were off. Why are car rental employees always grumpy? We didn’t even warrant a hello when we walked in! I’m not too young to remember a day that the customer was always right, well not even that but at least worth acknowledging. Anyway, after finally getting this one’s attention we realised that they had the wrong baby seat in. So another 30 minute delay and we were finally off! We fanged it up the M40 straight to Stratford-upon-Avon. It is such ... read more

Visited remnants of Sherwood Forest and I mean remnants - the bus sang "Robin Hood, Robin Hood, riding through the glen....... Visited a very pleasant Stratford on Avon - Shakespeare's birthhouse, his church crypt, Anne Hathaway's house, the maul, the picturesque Avon River with the house barges. Had cream tea (scones with berry jam and clotted cream at Broadway in the Cotswolds. Visited picturesque village of Chipping Campden for photographic opportunities. Saw Coventry Cathedral which was bombed in WWII, then new Cathederal which was built beside it. Went to town square to see Lady Godiva with the Peeping Tom clock tower.... read more

Saturday 14th August, 2 weeks before we travel and its our leaving party but it still doesn't feel real! An event like this could not pass-bye with-out a traditional poem from some of our good friends that we are leaving behind! For an insight to our crazy world - I hope you enjoy! A goodbye isn’t a goodbye without a rhyming biography, A few words about you all’ll be nice, wouldn’t you agree. So here’s a little farewell poem from Mandy, Liv and Kate, Providing you’re all here, as Liv’s normally late. Let’s talk for a minute or 2 about Jin, You hear her before you see her; her cackle can cave your ear drums in. She has an alternative intelligence, of seeing things differently, Like children breathing under water, with gills that you then lose ... read more

Hey everyone! Well summer is here and the travel bug has hit me yet again! I am off to Coventry and London to see the Queen... but unfortunately she is in Canada right now. I am doing a course through York University in Dramatic Arts in July which will enable me to teach high school drama. I am thrilled to be going back to the UK as it has been a few years and know that being where all the great Shakespearean theatre action is it is sure to be a great experience. I will be travelling to Stratford, Warwick, Reading and around and will finish that leg of my journey in London. I will then fly to Ireland to find my roots and take in some great music and sights in Dublin and on the ... read more

Cruisers reunion. Sadly our Wigan-ers were unable to manage at last minute due to ill health but they did not want us to cancel get together. We compromised with an overnight stay. Good seeing the rest of the 'Happy Diners' again - plenty to chat about, as usual. Called in at Stratford-upon-Avon on way there (deja vu feeling). Warwick is a nice city and full of interesting crooked buildings! Wandered around Kenilworth Castle and intrigued by Lord Robert Dudley/Elizabeth I relationship. Lovely to catch up and hopefully 'we'll meet again, don't know where, don't know when, but I know we'll meet again, some sunny day ............' (not so good when you hear me sing it)!... read more

Geo: 52.2819, -1.58447Last day of winter….and what a day of it! We had heard that a cold snap was coming, and the news weather was talking about snow and sleet in Scotland, but we were very surprised that the temperature was 1.5 degrees Celsius, when we drove off to Warwick Castle. (Heating still off, but we rang the landlady to politely complain! The cottage was actually still surprisingly warm – those thick stone walls and double glazing do work!)We were a bit shocked at the price when we got to Warwick Castle – entry was 55 pound, and that was fibbing to say Matthew hadn't yet turned 4 (with him helpfully chiming "yes, I'm 4, Mummy!" Luckily G is on the ball to her parents' ways, and dragged him away from the ticket booth!) But it ... read more

Friday 20.11.2009 Day 37 We have a new car! We checked out of the hotel and had brunch then went to the car place to give our car another test drive. The car stalled again this time as we started to turn around to finish the test drive. We told the sales rep we did not want the car and wanted to test drive another car. He told s to talk to his manager who tried to talk us into having the car we said no way. The other car we wanted to test drive had no petrol in it so we said yes to it with just driving it 3 mts as we were running out of time. We told them if they did not have it by 5 that we wanted our deposit back. ... read more

The drive fromn Liverpool to Warwick went without a hitch, once again the GPS has been invaluable. We spent the day (5 Hrs and could have spent more time) at Warwick Castle. What a great tourist spot. Heaps of history to soak up there. Loved the way the people dressed up in costume and role played people of that era. Hannah took the chance to dress up as a Princess at Princess Tower, Robert really enjoyed the Dungeon Tour - gorey, very dark, realistic, informative - not for the whimpish thats for sure (Hannah and Marion didn't go). Marion enjoyed looking at the different rooms and decor inside the castle. We all went up and down the 530 steps that took us over the ramparts and towers, Hannah and Marion had sore legs the next day. ... read more
