From our home base in Ettington we day tripped northwest, to the town of Stratford on the River Avon; Shakespeare Country. Shakespeare was born here in 1564, and here he died in 1616. He and his wife, Anne Hathaway, are buried in the Church of the Holy Trinity. The thatch-roofed cottage in which Anne Hathaway was born at Shottery has been turned into a museum. At Wilmcote, nearby, is the cottage where Shakespeare's mother, Mary Arden, is thought to have lived. Until recently thought to have been her home, new evidence has revealed that it is infact Adam Palmer's Farmhouse - a good friend and neighbour of the Ardens - and that the true Arden home is the adjacent property known as Glebe Farm. Although Mary Arden's house may look modest from the outside, the interior ... read more

After an eleven hour flight from San Francisco, we landed in London Heathrow Airport, took a bus to Victoria Station in central London to pick-up our car rental for a two hour drive to Ettington in Warwickshire. We stayed at The Leys B&B, our hosts were Brenda & Bob, the nicest people you will ever meet. Brenda is a very good looking petit blond with a wealth of knowledge about the local area, in particular, Stratford-upon-Avon, the birth place of Shakespeare where she is also a tour guide. From Ettington, we day tripped to Stratford-upon-Avon and the North Cotswolds. Our room was clean and tidy with a good view of the backyard. We were joined by Brenda & Bob for a great breakfast each morning. The Leys B&B is certainly the place to stay in Ettington. ... read more

Hello Everyone! It feels like it has been ages since I wrote in here. I think it has only been a week in reality. It’s been a long messy week and I am glad to be home in my nice warm bed with Murphy (my stuffed pink dog). Have been writing papers since Monday and have had little sleep. I officially have the crazy eyes! (Little life aquatic reference and if you have not seen that movie get on it!). In celebration of being done for the term I thought I would bother you all with my interesting trip of Warwick! One again slacker Amber and I stayed up till 3 am before our trip! We had to be up at 7! Oh NO! Woke up and ran to good ol Holly. Threw on my clothes ... read more

Ok, so I havn't left for England yet. I just bought my ticket to fly to Italy to stay with my family before school starts! I leave 6 January, which is in 42 days! I am taking Italian in school and I really need to practice more. My cousin only speaks Italian! I am tired of work right now and I can't wait to be in Europe riding subways, eating good food, and taking naps in the middle of the day! I won't have to drive for 8 months and I can't wait. I hate driving and I am stuck in my car for two hours each day! Why doesn't America have good public transportation?!?! Enough of my complaining... I must go back to work and keep daydreaming of England! Laters~Julie... read more

Good Morrow!!!!!!! So, here we are in beautiful Stratford upon Avon, where we just left Shakespeare's birthplace...... how cool is that, i ask you. Anyway last you heard from me we were in Liverpool. After we left Liverpool, we went to bath. Here we decided to go and see the Roman Baths. We took the scenic route, which was actually another like 10 minutes added to our walk, but was well worth it. Mum, you would have been running all over the place, it was just beautiful. Anyway, we got to where the Baths were, but before we went in, we got something to eat and we ate right outside the cafe where we were first entertained by an elderly man on a flute, then by another man singing with a guitar. It was very nice. ... read more

One Thousand years of history. The Mound, first built in 1068 on the orders of William the Conqueror, it formed the most important part of the Norman castle's defense. Today, it is the perfect vantage point, not for defending against marauding English troops, but for taking in the beautiful unfolding views of these peaceful grounds.... read more

Chipping Camden – Stratford, Friday, August 13 Our tour included transportation to either Moreton-in-Marsh, or Stratford to end our journey. This was done in a Mercedes saloon! Bob and Julia were dropped off first at the train station in Moreton-in-Marsh. I was then driven to Stratford. The driver and I discussed web sites most of the way. Yvonne Jones at Hamlet House greeted me with “Are you Judith!?” even though I was very early - just after 10:00. She is a bona-fide character. She talks regularly to her talking grey parrot, which had just learned to say “spider”. He also says “cat says meow” and “pig snort snort snort”; although sometimes he reverses them. She says he knows a whole set of animal sounds and their names. He says them all mixed up and then all ... read more
