We woke up and left Haworth on a coach headed for Ironbridge. Ironbridge is a preserved Victorian town just outside of Stratford. It's one of those living history places where they have actors who play to shopkeepers and townspeople and you wander around and learn about the time period and hopefully buy overpriced period reproductions. Normally, I find this stuff kind of hokey, but I enjoyed Ironbridge a lot. Maybe that's just because I'm in a good mood. Anyway, at the bank you could exchange your modern English money for Victorian style money: 12 pence to a shilling, 20 shillings to a pound, a pound and a shilling to a guinea, etc. (Guess where JK Rowling got her inspiration for the wizarding money system.) I ended up buying some postcards at the printer's shop, mostly ... read more

A visit from Dan's parents - which included a weekend trip to Stratford Upon Avon. For the remainder of the week Dan's mum stayed with us in Canary Wharf and experienced the fold up bed. The next weekend we did a trip to Greenwich and saw a West End play - Underneath the Lintel. Thanks for the visit, was great to see you, a wonderful trip and welcome to the blog! ... read more

It's Valentines weekend and Kevin and I decide to head away for the weekend. After many ideas from others we decide to head to Warwickshire near Birmingham. We set off straight after I finish work to our hotel on Friday night with directions from mapquest online although mapquest was a little wrong and a journey that should have taken 45mins, took around an hour and a half due to us getting lost! Once we arrived and found the car park the hotel was worth it. It's a gorgeous hotel set on a 19 acre plot of land, with restaurant, bar, full inside swimming pool, spa pools, sauna, gym, beauty therapy clinic and even room service (Which Kevin and I discovered on the first night). Saturday we head into Warwick to discover the Warwick castle. There is ... read more

Went on a brilliant tour today was sooo cool. Got to London Victoria coach station at 9.00 and drove for two hours to Warwick Castle, I hadn't really heard of it before but it was brilliant. It belonged to the last current Earl of Warrickshire till the late seventies and he moved to Australia and sold it to Madame Tussauds they have made it great. it'sa called Britian's greatest medieval experience. After doing all that medieval History it was brilliant. One part of the house was all done like a medieval household as they prepare for a real battle the Earl of Warrick fought during the 100 years war. The last bit was just a beautiful old chapel and a dining room that was so gorgeous and elaborate and a great hall. The castle still had ... read more

Fellow literature students, I made it!! I saw the actual place where the baird was born and the town he lived in. It was brilliant still preserved as really old. I saw the actual room that Shakespeare was born in preserved like it was then and his house, the school he went to his two daughter's houses and the site where he built his house after he returned from London. Unfortunately the owner got sick of everyone coming to look at Shakespeare's house and tore it down! What an idiot! It was a gorgeous town with the river Avon through it, theatres and the royal SHakespeare company and statues of Shakespeare and cafe called as you like it and a little market very cool. it was a flying visit but I love it. Would love to ... read more

When in England there are a few things that one must do. A few I have done, a few I haven't. Stratford-Upon-Avon would be one of them. Who hasn't heard of Shakespeare? Well I hopped on the train and headed to the town. It is a neat little place. Situated on the River Avon I think it would be a great place to spend time in during the summer. There are these huge trees and benches all along the river and in the summer there are outdoor plays performed. Cool. It was winter when I was there so not quite as cool. The first day I just wandered. Ended up at the Swan Theatre that night for a performance of Pericles. It was great. I am not one for reading Shakespeare alot but to see the ... read more

First Blog Entry. Well since I resigned from Jaguar at the end of September 2006 I have been wondering where I found the time to work at all. This journal entry should sum up the last few months before I go into hibernation for the winter and look to plan another epic journey around the world in the new year. If I get chance, I will attempt to upload some of my photographs from my previous 2 year trip (1998 - 2000) as have now got a colour scanner to archive the boxes of photographs I accumulated the last time. I will also attempt to upload a travel map of some of the places I have been. I spent 2 weeks visiting my brother in Canada, 9 days updating my Kitchen in Nuneaton, 1 month travelling ... read more

Ladies and gentlemen behold our vessel, our chariot, our work horse, the car (as yet with no name - until Helen gets a hold of him/her)!!! Visited the workshop of Liveridge4X4 where our defender is being reconditioned from a LHD Spanish police vehicle to what will be our wonderful 10 seater Bonjour64 defender. These pictures were taken about 4 days ago and yes it does look a little tatty around the edges, there is no interior if you look under the bonnet there is a very large void where our 200TDI should be!!!! HOWEVER - these guys can perform miracles, since the photos the engine has gone in and it has totted off to the paint shop to be pimped! It’s apparent to see the quality of the vehicles this company produces as you wonder around ... read more

The bus back to Hailsham from Brighton was pleasant despite the horrible weather. We caught one along the coast to Eastbourne for lunch and then a second, which luckily dropped us only a few houses from the Sands' place so there was no chance of us getting lost, phew. Just spent the evening catching up and relaxing though there was a bit of drama. All the boys headed off to rugby training and luckily Jane and David had gone down to watch and meet friends. Only minutes after they had arrived Chris came running in from the field dripping in blood. He had collided with the side of another player's head and had lost three of his teeth. They rushed him to emergency dental and then to the hospital in Brighton. At least one of his ... read more

Well ladies and gentlemen. That's it, the final deed is done, we have just returned from France where we met with the notaire and signed the final papers. We are now officially french house owners!!! Very exciting and the adventure will continue again in November when we travel back out for good. We flew over on Sunday the 17th September to Pau where we picked up a hire car and drove to Biarritz for 2 days prior to the signing. We tried to relax there but I think the excitement was too much. We had also packed plenty of wet weather gear as the BBC weather reports for the area were no looking good - HOWEVER when we got there we only had about half an hours worth of rain and then the rest of our ... read more
