Today we took a day trip out to the cities of Stonehenge and Bath. We did not stay in Stonehenge for a long time, but we were able to see the great and ancient stone circle there, which was a very cool thing to see. I don't know how to describe it really... they still don't really know the reasoning behind building it. I was just amazed how much of it still remains-- it was built thousands of years ago!! After Stonehenge we journeyed to the beautiful little city of Bath. Even the drive their was beautiful... the countryside was full of rolling hills and cute little houses like you see in movies!! When we arrived in Bath, we first went to get some lunch. Three other girls and myself went to a small little ... read more

Just completed the Cornish chapter. No more pasties and cream teas. Progressing onto Welsh cakes and leeks. Visited lots of beautiful places, cute fishing villages including Mousehole complete with its cat and glorious beaches being pounded by turquoise seas. Lands End was a little commercialised but the cliffs were spectacular. Nearly visited Jamie Oliver's restaurant in Watergate Bay but read the menu and decided to sniff the smells eminating from the kitchen instead. It worked out being much cheaper. Spent a stunning night on the middle of Dartmoor, lots of mares and foals trotting about, skylarks twittering above and at peace with the world. Sounds very ideal at the moment, mind you the sun is shining, if it was raining I'm sure we'd have a different tale to tell. ... read more

We had pre-booked (and paid for) a trip to Stonehenge and Bath earlier in the week, so when our alarms went off at 6am on Saturday morning we forced ourselves to get up rather than stay in bed all morning. We arrived at the meeting point a little early so had a much needed coffee. It turned out that the trip was a big hit and over 150 people had booked - the biggest BUNAC trip ever we were told - which meant they had to arrange an extra bus so we were a bit late getting away. Bus trips have never been my cup of tea but I have to say this one was truly appalling. There was some problem with the air conditioning system which caused the back third of the bus (where we ... read more

So you're getting a second update really quickly! you all are so lucky! yesterday we had a grand day! It started off with meeting up with the meeting of the group. there was Hartley, a friend from when we worked at the day camp and many other incidences where he just popped up...might ahve been stalking... then Seema who is our future benefactor of our future lifestyle of the rich and famous. (technically she's my wife and other people want to live in our poolhouse) and then the usual Gill and Pete. we went off to Stonehenge to get in touch with the mystical past and the fine audioguide. Seema was a keener who went through the guide way faster then all of us! which only proves why she will be the one to support ... read more

I know, I know, how original - I'm pretty sure everyone that's ever been to Bath has titled their blogs the same way! Ok so another long weekend in London (yeah it appears we never work) and another chance to hit the road and see some new places. With Barbs (aka Mother Hinds) down holidaying in London, it was her advice we went for our holiday location of choice... Bath! After work on Firday the 3 of us set off for the historic town of Bath for 3 days of sight seeing and (unfortunately) pretty ordinary weather. We arrived late and immediately hit the hay in preparation for the big day ahead. For those of you (like us) who knew nothing much about Bath before our arrival - here's a little history for you..... The city ... read more

After visiting Stonehenge, we continued our trip to Bath, another world heritage site for its architecture and history. Since I didn't do any research, I didn't know what to expect from Bath. When we arrived, I instantly fell in love with this beautiful city. After spending few days in London, Bath was a welcoming and pleasant scenery change. Bath is very picturesque. Every turn, there was a stunning site. The river, the hills, the buildings, the people... The air in Bath was crisp and refreshing. My spirit was lifted. London reminded me too much of New York city. But, Bath, reminded me that I was actually in Europe. A visit to The Roman Bath House is a must for first timers. Two thousand years ago, Romans built the magnificent bath house over the natural hot spring. ... read more

This is of course so late of an entry that I am afraid my memory of Bath is scewed by Paris!!! I arrived into London Gatwick and found myself a direct train to Bath... and the journey begins. Bath was beautiful, gorgeous achitecture influenced by the British and the Romans throughout their conquers and defeats - I recommend Bath to everyone! I stayed with an amazing couch surfer host out there - Jeremy Ash - who is an engineer of sorts, loads of ace friends, great house, attitude and sincerity - just brilliant guy! We went to part of the live music festival on Friday night and I got to listen to some amazing jazz music, on Saturday we went to a few pubs and an underground bar (they all are there) which looked like ... read more

For our final day of vacation, we hired a driver and spent a 12 hour day exploring Salisbury, Stonehenge and the lovely town of Bath. The original city of Salisbury - Old Sarum - was situated on an old Iron age hillfort to the north of the present city. A cathedral and castle were built on the hilltop following the Norman Conquest in 1066. Relations between the castle authorities and the clergy were uneasy and by 1200, the Bishop made the decision to move. It took another 20 years to obtain permission from both the King and the Pope to allow a new cathedral to be built. Legend has it that the site for the new cathedral was chosen by where an arrow fired from Old Sarum landed in the meadows below - a distance ... read more

Easter came around and a trip to Bath was organised with some girls from work. We stayed at another work mates place, right on the Circus, which happens to be a major tourist attraction and right next to the city centre, so walking everywhere was the order of the day. Caught the 7pm train right after work from London to Bath, got there was met by Rich, went back to the pub to meet more people. Friday came with a few drinks in the sun down by the river, Saturday was a very lazy day beginning with Brunch in town, and a supermarket shop for supplies and lounging in the sun in the Park and playing frisbee. Sunday being Easter Sunday, i went to church in the Bath Abbey. Very awesome Catherdral/Church. It was a ... read more
