I got a big bus tour ticket for the next 48 hours... hop on hop off wherever you like and includes a water cruise and walking tours. Today I did the bus, but I did hop off Regent Street and walk down to Piccadilly Circus for a browse. Then a further walk to Trafalgar Square where I caught the bus again to the London eye. My travel buddy, Dobby, come with me of course, lol. A wonderful experience with a 4D show prior to the ride which takes about 30 mins. From there, on the bus to go over the Waterloo bridge, and the London Bridge and of course the Tower bridge. Here is where I hopped off and wandered to the pier to catch the boat cruise back to the Westminster bridge. A small walk ... read more

Morning hadn't broken when we left home for a day trip to London. Darkness was still upon us and we were very sleepy heads as we had to get up at 4.15. Yawn, Yawn. Not a bit of birdsong at this time of year. They are all snuggled up until the early morning light breaks. And no-one on the road. The usual drive to Chesterfield especially at commuter time as everyone converges on the town for work or school can be long and drawn out. Five miles taking longer than the drive of twelve from Rhuthun to Mold in a morning. Not the usual sort of trip and not a glimpse of Suzy. She was staying on the drive. Glenn was staying at home and I was on my way to the train station at Chesterfield ... read more

Today we had a big day of sightseeing. First we took the tube which is the London Underground trains. Our first stop was Westminster Abbey which is a huge church. It is important because kings and queens are coronated there. Lots of kings and queens, Isaac Newton and Charles Darwin are buried there. Isaac Newton is famous for working out about maths and gravity. Next we took a boat up the Thames River to the Tower of London. We saw the Crown Jewels which are really valuable and Queen Elizabeth II sometimes still wears them. I bought a novel on Saturday called "Gangsta Granny" by David Walliams who is English. In this story Granny and Ben are about to steal the Crown Jewels so I waited till after I had seen the real jewels to continue ... read more

We had a few errands that we needed to do in London so we caught the train from Chatham and went in for the day. Chatham is well connected to anywhere due to the train station in town. Fortunately we were able to “shop around”and were able to find reasonable priced tickets for the trip. We didn’t have a plan for the day but the train dropped us at Victoria Station so we decided to walk around the area. It quickly led us to the Horses Guard Parade and we were fortunate to catch the last part of their ceremony that they perform daily. The Guards definitely make quite a statement mounted on their majestic horses in their regal uniforms. We walked up toward Trafalgar Square which we have been to many times in the past, ... read more

November 23rd - arrived in London at 5:00am GMT after a lovely 13 hour overnight flight from Hong Kong. Checked in, ate breakfast, took a nap and then midafternoon explored the area on my own. The hotel is beautiful and is located in the Westminister area, great walking distance to Big Ben, Westminister Abbey, St. James Park, Buckingham Palace, the dock for the River Thames... I hit a local pub, Bad Abbott for lunch - great atmosphere and experience and the food was great. Later that night, Ellie and Jack ( aka ) Mom and Dad arrived in from Boston. They were wiped out from their 6 hour business class flight from Boston(LOL) so I fed them and then tucked them in for the night. Sunday we took a tour bus around London to see all ... read more

Well There has been a lot of water under the bridge since I last spoke. I think the best way to due is dot point form in chronological sequence. Bath:- We awoke to the typical English B'fast which was OK but the service, albiet polite, it was when they came to you with very little pro-activity in the way they did things. We headed up the road adn waited for a Hop on-Hop off bus to turn up. We have always found these a great way to get around. They have running commentary and stop at various points to allow you to sight see at your leisure, then rejoin the bus when you are ready to continue around. You can get on and off as many times as you like in the day. We traveled round ... read more

Another day to wake up to the noise of the city of London outside the window. Today we had planned to see all the the Royal parts of London in Westminster along with a few more tourist locations. As we hop back onto the tube we began to make our way to the Westminster stop. As we began to walk out of the station we see a chained fence and a tan building next to it. We began to walk a few more steps up and then we stop on the staircase to look up again. We realize we are standing right next to Big Ben. It was an amazing sight and such a beautiful building. Danika and I were amazed by construction and detail of such a simple tower. We kept walking and trying to ... read more

Our day started with the train and tube to Trafalgar Square again this morning to meet up with Rebecca, our walking tour guide to the changing of the guard at Buckingham Palace; still all included in that one ticket we bought for the Hop-on, Hop-off bus. That REALLY was a good deal. :) Our 90 minute walk took us first to St. James Palace, to watch the new guards march out at 11:15AM and move towards Buckingham Palace. The new guard was the Scots regiment preceded by the Welsh regiment pipe and drum band. The old guard appeared to also be the Scots regiment preceded by the Coldstream regiment brass band. We also lucked into seeing the Blues & Royals regiment horse guards replacing the Life Guard regiment. The mounted Regiments change The Queen’s Life Guard ... read more

This weekend it was time to journey out with my hubby. He chose the path for these adventures. I find that it takes at least and hour or more of preplanning...searching maps and discovering route options in order to arrive close to ones intended destination. The goal for Saturday, 10 August was to land our feet in the Westminster Region. Our journey began on foot, when then connected on a bus from Warwick Gardens, bus C9, which traveled towards Trafalgar Square. Along the way I noted Kensington Park, this park includes The Diana Princess of Wales Memorial Playground, The Round Pond and the Serpentine. West Carriage Road cuts through the park South to North. The other amazing Parks noted were the Green Park and St. James Parks. Green Park contains Buckingham Palace and Gardens. Upon the ... read more

My first flight was Chicago to Heathrow in London. Luckily, Given my stopover was almost 15 hours, I went through customs to leave the airport and get into the city. I topped up my oyster card, hopped on the Piccadilly line and rode into the city center. I walked around some – oh, how I can just walk in London all day long. The itinerary for the day included meeting with one of my friends, Isaby, from Parliament. He now works for the Tax Payer Alliance in London. He was really busy working on getting press releases and things together for the day as the MP’s in Parliament announced that day that they would be increasing their own pay – not something that Tax-Payers like to hear. I mainly stayed around Westminster. Prior to meeting with ... read more
