Today, I am staying local with a visit to Bolsover Castle. Awaiting for Angela to come down form Leeds and the two of us go enjoy the day together. Bolsover Castle, designed to entertain and impress. Built by the Cavendish family on the site of a medieval castle founded in the 12th century. Sir Charles Cavendish was the son of Bess of Hardwick and William Cavendish, and was then handed down to his son, William Cavendish who had a love for horses, and was a Royalist. He also had a love for women and was quite the promiscuous one, holding functions at the castle, and finding rooms where events would happen. The audio of the on-goings in this castle were very intriguing. On entry into the castle on the left was the horses quarters. This is ... read more

the 5th was a day of rest - or just no pictures or anything to report so moving onto the 6th of September. Today, I am heading off to Hardwick Hall. The Elizabethan country house created by Bess of Hardwick in the early 1500's. Bess was one of the richest and remarkable women of Elizabethan England during those times. it is renowned for its tapestries and wonderful gardens. Off I drive in my little vehicle with my little travel buddy, Dobby, along the roads from village to village. Arriving at Hardwick Hall, I could not believe the magnificence of the new Hall. Driving up the road, seeing a herd of cows, then toward the car park. The new hall is standing across a road from the old hall that was just a shell now. The new ... read more

Not to far to drive from Sheffield to Bolsover. My little cottage I have booked is not too far away in Scarcliffe but to get some supplies in the village of Bolsover before heading there. What a quaint little village. Walking around the streets seeing small business and an activity of people walking as well. I ventured up to where the Bolsover Castle was and one of the local pubs - the pillar of rock. Also seeing some nice views of the Derbyshire countryside from a distance. I could get used to this sort of living already. Once I got my shopping and supplies for my cottage, it was off to Scarcliffe to unpack, and then head to the local for a well deserved beer. The cottage was amazing. 2 story, a nice big kitchen, lounge ... read more

early rise and off for a nice breakfast and walk around before collecting the car. After a nice cuppa, I go for a walk to find the Sheffield Memorial statue and Hall. The buildings construction is amazing. I found a dinky pub not far - the Sheffieldman Rock Bar. The names they have for their pub's all have some sort of meaning - and seem quite inviting. The costa coffee is at the edge of the peace garden where i have taken more shots from different angles. What a small but so relaxing place to enjoy and relax. Time to head back and check out - then onto collecting the little Skoda I have booked for my drive to Derbyshire. Had to take a photo of Henderson's factory, the sauce that is better than Worcestershire by ... read more

Departing Liverpool and onto Sheffield for one night only. Dobby and myself catch the National Express to Sheffield. Although I haven't seen enough of Sheffield, it is one place that I do enjoy visiting. Staying in the city centre for the night before collecting a car to start something new I have never done before. Once checking into the Mecure hotel, off we head for a nice walk through the peace gardens, passing the Sheffield Bank - another brilliantly crafted building. And then a meal at the central Wetherspoons pub, the Bankers Draft.... read more

Another day in Liverpool. A bit of a sleep in after a great night before, then off to breakfast looking over the water. Looking forward to going on the Sandeman's walking tour of Liverpool again. What a great way to see the area and find out the history of Liverpool. Starting off from St Georges Hall. The Queen Victoria statue of her on a horse is still one of my likes and at the other end is the statue of Prince Albert on a horse also. Across the road we see the Liverpool Empire Theatre. The buildings here are solid and timeless. We started off on our little jaunt, following around the art gallery and to St Johns Gardens and the Hillsborough memorial. Down Whitechapel street and to the Eleanor Rigby statue. Of course from here ... read more

An early rise to the start of a busy day, but not until I have a full english breakfast before departing. As I stroll past the Casino and down to Queens wharf taking in the fresh air. I thought it quite amusing as I am walking down past the Wapping dock and I see 4 ducks crossing the road (Just like the Beatles did at Abbey Road). It made me smile as they waddled their way across the road to a lawned area to meet other ducks. Walking up to the Echo Arena, I decided to go on the Wheel of Liverpool to get a good view of the Mersey river and the city from high above. While on it though, the rain came down - luckily I was not out in it and it did ... read more

Today, I take the National Express to Liverpool. The countryside from the bus was amazing leading toward the end of summer and into Autumn. It's Beatles week with only 2 days left, so I arrived with enough time to plan seeing some bands and visiting all things Beatles. This is perfect for my time after I arrive. It was late afternoon when I finally did arrive and take a taxi to my hotel. My hotel was in a lovely spot, south of Albert Dock but on the water. The Dolby hotel was perfect where I could walk to the main city centre and get some nice views too. The evening sunset looked amazing from the lovely dining room with a full window looking out to the Mersey river. An easy day with relaxing and a stroll ... read more

Today was an early start. I ventured out from the hotel to catch the big bus early in the morning. Although I have done it before I thought to hop off at stops I hadn't before. I stopped at the Marble Arch, there wasn't a lot happening so early in the morning, but I am sure the speakers corner was later. Hyde Park looked amazing with so much greenery, seeing horses riding through from the training school nearby with many buses lining up to pick up their passengers. Hoping back on and taking the bus around and down Regent Street. This is such an amazing street with so many iconic brand shops leading its way down to Piccadilly Circus. Here I hopped off again, the big building of Lillywhites sports store, Ripley's (believe it or not), ... read more

After a wonderful day on my arrival, it was going to be a nice relaxing day venturing around City of Westminster and City of London. My first ride on the Underground from South Kensington to Westminster station. Arriving I had a walk around the area. Seeing Big Ben in the sunlight, and the houses of Parliament. Walking over the Thames bridge toward the London Eye, I decided I would talk a venture on the water taxi from the Eye to the O2. It was a nice ride on the water, looking at all the views, and hearing a little commentary of the bridges we were passing under. On arrival at the O2, it didn't look as big as I thought, but once you enter the Main entrance, it is huge. I heard there was an Elvis ... read more
