Bibury Sunday March 16th was decided for a walking reunion for a group of people who had trekked through The Himalayas in November and had now become firm friends. As we were from various points of the South West of England, it was suggested that we chose somewhere between South Wales and Wiltshire. So the Cotswolds were chosen and in particular a 6 mile circular walk from Bibury. I had never heard of this place before, but when I mentioned it to a few people, I was told it was one of the mos beautiful places in the UK, so I was really looking forward to it. I prayed for good weather considering the amount of rain we had suffered for the last couple of months, but was prepared for a pretty muddy walk never the ... read more

Geo: 51.8667, -2.24867Up with the alarm at 5:30 and down to breakfast for their opening at 6:00.I check-out and leave the guest house just before 7:00 and take a taxi from the main road at the end of our Soi. The traffic seems worse than ever this morning as he drives all over the place trying to avoid queues with little success. We are inching along and time is passing all too quickly and I fear for a late arrival at the airport. We finally break through onto the expressway and are on the way to Suvarnabhumi.I check-in just after 9:00 and go straight through immigration and security checks and make my way to Gate G4 where the plane is waiting. Had brought a book to pass the time but it is not needed. Phone Jai ... read more

Hi everyone This is just a quick message to let you know that we are safe at the Willow's place in Ampney Crucis. We avoided any problems from the storm that hit the south of England last night. Luckily we disembarked sunday morning. The captain of the ship told us they were anticipating bad weather but we had no idea how severe it would be. Thank goodness we didn't come back on Monday. It would have been horrendous. We're preparing red curry pork and sweet potato for dinner. Just the thing to warm everyone up when they get home from work on a bleak dark day. Love pj and sandy Xx... read more

Hi everyone Well the freezing cold weather did arrive at Ampney Crucis and I was grateful for the warm but very ill-fitting coat that I bought. It’s actually a very stylish woollen coat made for someone about 10 sizes bigger than me, but cold trumps elegance every time! I look a bit like a badger, a very warm one though!! So as you know our friend Chris died last week but in a serendipitous turn of events his son Daniel was staying in Oxford about an hour from us. We picked him up and he spent 2 days with the Willows and ourselves in Ampney Crucis. Despite the horrible circumstances it was good for us all to be together and was a very special time. Much wine and beer was consumed while we talked of our ... read more

The sunrise this morning was one out of the box and just amazing. Most of the days recently have started with cloud cover but this morning there is nothing to stop the sun make that spectacular rise in the east. What made it different were the trees in our eastern view that filtered the bright sunlight. So with prospects of a sunny day ahead we got ourselves up and had breakfast to be on the road for day two in the Cotswolds than we did yesterday. Checking the weather forecast confirmed the day was going to be fine and sunny but with a high of just 11C later in the day. A cold breeze was going to keep the temperature at a level where we will need to be protected from the chill. Our plan is ... read more

A combination of a low in the sky sun and high cloud has had the effect of holding back the daybreak really making it look as though a new day has begun. We are certainly getting the feeling that autumn is well underway and that is being aided by the cool temperatures. Full kitchen facilities means a full breakfast although we couldn’t find any bacon in the supermarket yesterday afternoon that looked good enough to accompany our eggs so we shall make do with just poached eggs on toast. Although we had been to this area before, four years ago, we had just taken a day’s drive from south to north and as it had been so busy because it was summer we hadn’t actually stopped to take much in. So we are treating that as ... read more
