Hi everyone We are here is sunny England. I know this will come as a shock to many of you but the sun is shining and it’s quite warm: 18 degrees. The evil weather comes later in the week but for now we bask in the sunshine in Ampney Crucis with the Willow family. I hear it was 39.9 in Brisbane. I’m so glad to have missed that. The flight from Hong Kong left on time and uneventful so we were relieved. So BA is now at the top of my preferred airline list. We arrived in the UK at about 4:30 am and picked up our rental car in the dark and rain. Unbeknownst to us, Peter dropped his phone in the Heathrow car park. Some very kind soul handed the phone in and rang ... read more

Just before this time arrives I olog in to British Airways website to be presented with a countdown clock ticking down the seconds. As soon as check-in is permitted I select our seats but cant complete the process because I dont have a printer for boarding cards. Will have to wait till airport tomorrow.... read more

Yesterday we jumped in a hire car and took to the road! The boys were happy to finally be sitting looking at the scenery after 3 days of endless walking and they were quite exhausted, happy to be in the car and sleep (at 9.30am!) It's hard, because the light comes into the rooms as early as 4.40am and it's hard to get back to sleep... hence the reason why I'm blogging at 5.40am!Our first stop was Stonehenge. Built in 3000BC, somehow orientated to the sun, but the mystery is 'why was it built?' It truly is a mammoth construction from 5000 years ago, knowing what technology we have now, ... read more

A few busy days as we caught up with friends, washed everything we could wash (no it wasn’t my fault that Woolly ended up in the washing machine!!!!)…. Woolly says – I was playing hide and seek!!!!! Not at tall keen on the indignity of having to be re-stuffed – Thank you Auntie Becky for helping Jo with the operation. I’ve had a great time (other than already mentioned!), seeing friends, having a game of pool or two, skateboarding up and down the path, annoying Georgie by jumping all over her and annoying Jo as she tries to knit me a scarf!!!!! I’m sure the holes will be fine! With everything filled, cleaned and stored, we’re back on the road again. This time we are leaving Sat Nav behind and taking Tom Tom with us, Tom ... read more

So Adam, Myles, Scott and I burned (or should I say crawled!) out of London at 4pm on Friday and still managed to hit some fierce traffic. It was our last mini-break before Adam and Myles head back to Australia, Melbourne. The journey took near on 4hrs to get to our accomodation. Which was the quaint Three Choirs Vineyard in Gloucestershire. We were staying in the Lodges that were nestled amongst the vines near a small pond; very picturesque. The following morning, after a hearty breakfast overlooking the vineyard, we headed into Hereford to visit the little town of Ledbury. It had cute little streets with tudor style houses. Next stop was Great Malvern to tackle the Malvern Hills. Just as we started the accent the fog cleared and we had beautiful blue skys to gaze ... read more

The weather has been great and we've both managed to get sunburnt. We had 3 nights in the Cotswolds, so just 2 full days to get a taste of the region - we could have easily done with more. Our first day was spent travelling through a couple of villages in the North Cotswolds, visiting some lovely gardens and trying to avoid getting lost along the twisting roads. The main village that we visited was Chipping Campden which was just down the road from "our" village of Ebrington. Chipping Campden is a small market town and known for its High Street which dates from the 14th to 17th century; this is lined with buildings constructed from the very attractive Cotswold Stone. We picked up a map from the local information centre and walked the streets following ... read more

Sunday 2nd September We set off about 8.00 p.m. from the Hotel in London and arrived in Gloucester about 10.30 later that evening. Tired and went to bed. Monday 3rd September We went into Gloucester to visit the Cathedral. We saw the tombs of the founder of the church and of King Edward 11, the great East Window and the Whispering Gallery. There was an exhibition explaining the details of the stained glass in this window, which is one of the oldest in Europe. It includes the oldest record of a golfer. We tried out the whispering gallery and it works! We then walked in the city and saw an old set of chiming bells above and old Bakers jewellery shop and then went into a modern Mall and saw another clock with moving models representing ... read more

We left Holcombe Brook this morning and travelled to The Cotswolds via Warwick. 'Tis a touch different here to the villages around Bury - more of that later. Our last few days in the Bury area were quite relaxed. Terry is almost over his cold, the weather improved and we're just about in the swing of being on holidays. On Saturday we spent the day riding the rails on the East Lancashire Railway. This is a tourist railway that runs a couple of steam trains backwards and forwards between the towns of Rawtenstall and Heywood, passing through Bury, Ramsbottom and a couple of smaller villages. We bought tickets that allowed us to get on and off at will so it was a pleasant way to see a couple of other villages and the countryside between. Rawtenstall ... read more

The Cotswolds are beautiful and full of people who take the time to stop and chat, answer questions and share opinions. We had an adventure of road directions but finally made it to our B&B. When you Google Moreton in Marsh and check out the surrounding area there is no Blockley unless you zoom in. Then this town shows up. Surprise... this is a wonderful small village complete with a couple of B&Bs, a great pub with an attached restaurant and a history. It is great what is around the next corner on the little back roads. Blockley has several newer homes built just after the war through the generosity of Winston Churchill's cousin. He made sure that this area was brought back to life. As you all know we had a camera misadventure... our B&B ... read more
