OMG!!!! Can I tell you how many times I circled Heathrow airport today before I tore all my hair out at roundabouts with three or four exits? Who knew? But the GPS lady kept calm during the entire hair raising day and just repeated what I had failed to understand the first two, three, ok, maybe four times. At the end of the day, I bless her the most for delivering me to the most beautiful place on earth. I am going to attempt to post a picture of where I am staying...a family owned B & B (I'm the only guest) in the picturesque village of Filkers. I also want to post pictures of the beautiful green pastures full of pleasantly grazing sheep and dairy cows, as well as furrowed fields and lanes where raspberry ... read more

Four days and counting.... I would like to say that I am all ready to go, but I'm not. I'm getting there though. I just finished quilting a beautiful quilt...last one before my travels. I'll post a picture of it. I'm pretty proud of how far I have come in the last year. I would like to thank everyone who is going to follow me on the trip of a life-time that I have dreamed of since I was a little girl. So here goes..... Talk to you again soon!... read more

Geo: 51.8667, -2.24867Catch the 09:50 coach to Heathrow arriving pretty well on time at 12:25. We are due for a 25 mins wait for our connection to Terminal 5 but luckily another coach is heading that way immediately and will take us. By 12:45 we are there. We take the lift up to the check-in floor and discover there are no queues so before 13:00 we have got rid of our big cases and have our boarding cards at the ready. We sit and eat lunch then make our way through the security checks and into the main departure lounge. We have to wait a while to see which of the Terminal 5 buildings our flight actually leaves from and see if we need to take the train to another place or not. We take a seat overlooking ... read more

Welcome to the Westonbirt Arboretum ! Autumn has always been one of my favorite season with that special feel and atmosphere it brings with it, a mix of crisp mornings and still gorgeous afternoons and that incredible burst of warm colors declined from trees to hedges. I used to live in Canada so I was familiar with autumn at its most glorious but I had not been to the Westonbirt National Arboretum, yet. The Westonbirt National Arboretum is located in Tetbury, Gloucestershire. It belonged for centuries to the Holfords Family which ancestors date back to William the Conqueror and Robert Stayner Holford was the original Creator of the Westonbirt Arboretum which was handed over to the Forestry Commission in 1956 which still exploit it today and looks after its 16000 trees including 2500 different species. I ... read more

Welcome to Moreton in Marsh & Bourton on the Water ! What better feeling than waking up at sunset for a trip, gazing through the window as you drink your coffee hoping for a nice day and discovering a clear blue sky, then stepping outside in the crisp early morning, filling your lungs with fresh air, and smile at the thought a great day ahead ! In my own experience, many places I have visited so far have not only met but largely exceeded my expectations and one of them was Bourton on the Water and Moreton in Marsh. I had already been a few times to the Cotswolds which I love, and I one would be very fussy not to, and fell under the spell of the village of Broadway, described by many as the ... read more

One day more until we depart on our journey - already I have my doubts. To give some background, this Friday I will be flying to Washington, picking up a car and then driving across the southern half of the United States to San Francisco. It is bound to be a road trip of epic proportions. Throughout the trip I will be travelling through numerous fascinating places, staying at exciting towns and cities, and eating some classic American grub. My only concern, however, are the two others that will be alongside me. Being the youngest of three brothers has its perks but, as one can imagine and perhaps sympathise with, it has its downfalls. Perhaps the worst of which is my nickname of "Tiny" (or 'Tinor' for accurate pronunciation) which has stuck with me since I ... read more

We stayed local today with a visit to Stratford Park in Stroud. Em immediately spied the playground so that was the first port of call before heading to the Museum in the Park which displays the local history around Stroud. From Neolithic encampments to Roman occupation and right through the medieval period and industrialisation, the displays provided a great picture of life in the region. There was a treasure hunt for Em which kept her interested for most of the tour around the museum and then we headed back to the playground for lunch. Em made a friend, Georgia, who helped her get on the swings and climb the slides. As it was a much nicer day than previously, we couldn’t pass up our last opportunity to sample the local Winstone’s ice cream shop next door ... read more

Today we drove over to Bath to see the Roman baths. We had found the Park’n’Ride station and when we got there, Em was excited to see the ride to town would be on a double decker bus! Bath is only a small town and the main atractions are all within easy walking distance. First we went to the Roman baths which are housed in a museum building showing all the excavations, some of which are still ongoing. The water steams in the cool air as it bubbles up. Apparently it gets up to about 95 degrees Celsius deep down in the earth before cooling as it rises. The ruins are all housed inside the museum and show the extent of the baths, dressing rooms and hot, warm and cold rooms just like in other roman ... read more

Today we were off to see the really old stuff – the standing stones of Avebury and Stonehenge. Avebury, the largest henge in Britain, is much more accessible than Stonehenge and you can actually wander right amongst the stones and touch them too. There are lots of stones still standing and many missing as the early Christians in the area believed the site was related to the devil so they started pulling the stones down. One crushed a man as it fell so they thought the devil was annoyed and stopped pulling them down. It is a fascinating place even if not as monumental as Stonehenge. There were a bunch of strange folks holding some ceremony and all meditating at one point, with one guy crawling and slapping the ground – brave considering there is lots ... read more
