The Cotswolds are beautiful and full of people who take the time to stop and chat, answer questions and share opinions. We had an adventure of road directions but finally made it to our B&B. When you Google Moreton in Marsh and check out the surrounding area there is no Blockley unless you zoom in. Then this town shows up. Surprise... this is a wonderful small village complete with a couple of B&Bs, a great pub with an attached restaurant and a history. It is great what is around the next corner on the little back roads. Blockley has several newer homes built just after the war through the generosity of Winston Churchill's cousin. He made sure that this area was brought back to life.
As you all know we had a camera misadventure... our B&B owner gave us directions to the nearest Argos store (a catalog store). So we are back in business. Pictures will now be available again.
After the shopping experience we wound our way through the various small villages of the Cotswold's checking out the churches, the various High Streets (each town has one), and checking out the architecture. There was Upper Slaughter, Lower Slaughter,
Slaughter Manor, Moreton in Marsh, Broadway (my personal favorite), and Burton-on-the-Water and so much more. Gary bought me some perfume at a perfumery and as we walked down the side of the little river we stopped at a small outdoor cafe. He had his obligatory pint while I needed to have a Cotswold Cream Tea. Nothing like a pot of tea with scones and a small pot of buttery cream.
When we got back to Blockley we checked out the village center and the church. Met a couple of women who were setting the flowers for the church and a weekend wedding. Lots of humor and some talk about back home. They actually knew about Port Angeles...
During our running around, we stopped and bought a bottle of wine to share with our inn keeper. Jane put it in her fridge to chill and we hit the local pub/restaurant for a second night. Absolutely wonderful food, great conversation and hospitality. The Great Western Arms... It's history goes back MANY years. The new owner, a big city marketing professional, had been trying to move to Blockley for several years but finally found an opportunity to move and be in
business near her new home.
When we got back to the B&B we settled in the common sitting room with Jane the owner, a fellow guest and a bottle of white wine. Two hours later we had shared so much about life in the US, the Cotswolds and Cornwall. Our fellow guest was in the area for a fair. Her business is to provide herbal treatments for horses and other animals. Another profession that I knew nothing about – in Bath we met a healer of humans and here a person who works on healing animals.
Next we will be off to northern wales...
