This is all new to me so I am hoping it will work. It will also depend on whether I can tune into wiifi at the sites we use. The plan is to set off on Sunday 15th at 6am and reach Dover for a mid-day sailing. We chose Dover because it has the shortest crossing and Sophie can stay in the car. We are booked to return on 25th October and intend to work our way down the west coast of France and down to Spain via Andorra. We have not booked any sites in advance so it can be very fluid and day to day. After six months of refurbishment, extensions and mess we feel really ready for a break. We sold the motorhome and towcar and we have bought a 2year old Bailey ... read more

Geo: 50.7194, -1.98113The beautiful weather of yesterday was long gone this morning. Wet and windy awaited us for todays trip down to Poole. After breakfast, Owen was kind enough to drop us by the mall in Poole. First off the bat I purchased a great warm water and wind proof jacket for about 39£. Which would likely have cost at least $180 back in Australia. We came out of the mall onto High Street. To Grandads delight, there was plenty of bargains to be found down this street, even pokies! We went from bargain store to bargain store, including a Pound Store and 99p Store. Nat finally found a cover for her phone. Eventually, we made our way to the end of the street near the Quay and waterside. Grandad fancied a rest and pint down ... read more

Geo: 50.7178, -1.87943Cornflakes with mandarins and a cup of tea was on the agenda for todays breakfast. Afterwards, Owen was kind enough to drop Grandad, Natalie and I into Bournemouth. We arrived in the city centre, by the gardens at around about 10am. We strolled through the lush green gardens, by a hot air balloon towards the shore. It was a picturesque beachfront, soft sand, an aquarium, shops and arcade. The key feature was the pier. The 60p entry fee was worth it for a stroll, sunbake in recliners, and views of the coast. From here we spent some time in the arcade. Nat braved a game of violent airhockey and won some candy, and Grandad persisted with a confusing slot machine game.We strolled back through the gardens via a small aviary. Lunch was Mcdonalds, and rest ... read more

Friday 15thMarch Last day of work for 8 months! Was duty, so kept pretty busy – but still time for cakes for the few that were in. Its red nose day and cakes were being sold in CID – ‘fraid the chocolate muffins weren’t as good as they looked – unlucky Sarah! Weird to say goodbye, hugs all round. Both children and respective partners turned up for planned evening out, with a meal down at the Ox, Ashley Cross. Lovely to have them all there and had a lovely meal, followed by a complete surprise of a gathering of friends at the Brickies. What lovely children we have! Organised everyone to be there and had a really special evening – thanks go to everyone who made it, we really didn’t have a clue, and it was ... read more

Welcome to Bournemouth ! As the United Kingdom is slowly recovering from one of its coldest and earliest winter offensive in almost a century, the single thought of walking in the surf on a warm summer day is enough to have us all dreaming about soft summer breezes. I had not yet visited Bournemouth that I already loved it and I must say that I succumbed to the many charms of this famous Victorian Sea Resort which spreads over 7 miles of golden sandy beaches. I arrived on the perfect summer day and found the beaches surrounding the Pier already very busy with cheerful sun bathers and swimmers and the sheer size of the 7 miles beach one can do exactly as one pleases with regards to finding the perfect spot ! The Bournemouth Pier is ... read more

Actually it's really difficult to determine when the planning actually starts. Its probably on an evening out with friends with alcohol featuring somewhere along the line! The seed gets sown and it all grows from there. Its never real, at least not to begin with, just fun to think and talk about. Then after you've spoken with lots of friends about it, it seems like there is no turning back, and why would you want to? (actually, I can answer that question now, with only a couple of weeks before it all starts!) Initially the finances rule, how to fund it and for how long. We're fortunate(?) to own a very run down 'fermette' in the far east of France, in the Vosges, which requires a lot of work. We both love it over there and ... read more

As we rounded the corner we were met by the stunning view of Corfe Castle perched on top of the hill. The walk up to the castle gate showed the craftsmanship, destruction and the general wear and tear the castle has undergone over the centuries. The keep was built in the early 12th century for King Henry I, William the Conqueror’s son. It was designed to be impressive – and it certainly was. Standing 21m tall and on the top of a 55m high hill, this gleaming tower of Purbeck limestone can be seen from miles around. The views from the top were amazing and although very windy on our visit it was worth the climb. Well hello!!! i thought i would make a quick entry before we leave, just in case anyone i have been beating this blog website about the head with felt like taking a look, and then saw that it was simply an empty page!!! Trust me, it will grow and start to look a lot better as we move about - well here's hoping anyway! i hope to make my first proper entry in just over a week's time, when we've been in Kampala (Uganda) for a day or two. But for now - here i am - in a scarf, gloves, earmuffs and socks tucked into my sweats - sat in my empty flat whilst maff is getting a mop cut. its bloody freezing in here cos we are reluctant to put too much money on ... read more

It was 10am Sunday morning. There was a jetty, sand on the beach, sunshining, the lifeguards were on duty and there were even surfers but there were no Nippers this Sunday on Bournemouth beach. We were blessed with a warm and bright Remembrance Day in Bournemouth, a southern English seaside holiday town. It had been nearly two weeks since we had seen the ocean and it was refreshing for all of us, though there was no thought of going for a swim. Not quite Catho, more like St Kilda and Port Phillip Bay with a restaurant at the end of the pier and the little coloured beach huts by the water. You can see why the Brits love to escape here. Linda... read more
