As we rounded the corner we were met by the stunning view of Corfe Castle perched on top of the hill. The walk up to the castle gate showed the craftsmanship, destruction and the general wear and tear the castle has undergone over the centuries. The keep was built in the early 12th century for King Henry I, William the Conqueror’s son. It was designed to be impressive – and it certainly was. Standing 21m tall and on the top of a 55m high hill, this gleaming tower of Purbeck limestone can be seen from miles around. The views from the top were amazing and although very windy on our visit it was worth the climb. For further information check out www.nationaltrust.org.uk/corfe-castle

Woolly says - this was a great place to spend the day (shame we didn't have a picnic), running around the ramparts, dressing up in costumes and rolling down the banks it had something for all the kids. National Trust also do a kids paper treasure map to find things on your visit and get a prize!
