3rd – 9th September Lake Yard Marina – Poole. What a truly amazing Oasis!! This marina is way up the end of the massive harbour, but I read that they offered moorings rather than marina berths. Most berths cost 35P and more a night, but we could have a mooring here for 18P per night. The first night we stayed on board, but went ashore in the morning to pay our fees and sign in. Loved the little bar and restaurant on sight and Seonagh (Bar Manager) and office girls were very friendly right from the start! After getting directions, we headed into town – a fair, but easy walk. Explored in there for the rest of the day. Dinner back at Lake Yard. 5th Next day we went back into town as we could get ... read more

Just come back from one of my favourite little haunts and thats Chesil beach and Portland bill. Plenty of camping on the beach with open fire and abundance of fishing. This time of the year it will start to get a litlle busy as the mackeral start to come in a little closer as the waters start to get warmer. Chesil beach is just under 18 miles long that strecthes from Portland bill to Weymouth. Having scuba dived around this area of Dorset there are many boat that have sank around this area including the m2 submarine and a old pottery ship called the benindyke. These ships wrecks are sat at the bottom around about 30 metres deep. Plenty of marine life ranging from lobsters, cuttlefish, mackeral, dogfish and if your lucky you may catch a ... read more

My wifi is back in action! I wrote short(ish) entries for the past few days I've been wifi-less and I'm throwing them all up at once. July 2: Lyme Regis, Monmouth Beach Adventure day! I have no wifi so I can’t plan anything so I literally went to the bus stand with no idea where I was getting off the bus haha. At least I knew I was taking the X53 because it’s their coastal route. That’s a start? While in line (bought a weekly pass, it’s cheaper) the older gentleman behind me noted: “Do I detect an American accent?” Sigh. Canadian. Canadiannnn. He was nice though - he’s been living here in Weymouth for 20 years now, so he told me how grand it was haha. He asked about my travels so we chit chatted ... read more

Day 4; 24/05/14 Saturday lunchtime in London we decided to leave for the weekend to go to Dorset to spend the weekend with relatives. What was meant to be a two and a half hour drive south west turned out to be a four hour car journey in a small car stuck in nose to tail traffic most of the way and anyone that knows me well knows how carsick I get so it wasn't pretty. The traffic was due to it being a long weekend and half term also (school holidays). When we arrived it was late , we ate and went to bed early. Day 5; 25/05/14 Sunday we unfortunately had to spend the day in the car for long periods of time also as we drove to the coast. Our first stop was ... read more

Durdle Door is one of the most beautiful places to visit in Dorset’s coastline near Lulworth Cove. One day this limestone arch will disappear as others before. After arriving in to car park, went to Lulworth Cove by walk. Be prepared its take while to get there by walk. Nice welcoming place with many refreshments places and souvenirs. Fairy tale cottages are giving special air to the place. From Lulworth Cove you can get boat to take you around cliffs too. Refreshment done, walking back and enjoying amazing coast views. Few tricky steps down and here we go, Durdle Door arch in its full glory. And yes swimming allowed just be careful.... read more

After Corfe Castle, we drove to Swanage and checked out the coast. We then went to dinner at The Ship Inn. It was a lovely little pub, and the portions were large. I had fish and chips with a Guinness. I was barely able to finish. Later, we walked through Swanage a little and then headed back to Basingstoke. We were so tired, and I fell asleep on the drive back. When we arrived back at their home, it was very easy for all of us to fall asleep quickly, and we did just that!... read more

We arrived into the London's Heathrow airport at about 11 am and cleared customs and immigration quickly. We went out into arrival and saw our friend Nikki and her daughter right away. It had been 14 years since we last met up, so it was so nice to see her! After our greetings, Nikki drove us to their home in Basingstoke. We met up with her husband and other daughter there and just hung out for a bit. We decided to drive down to Corfe Castle. I am so glad we did! It was amazing! The weather had cleared up too, which was perfect!. We admired the views of the castle, while having a few drinks at The Greyhound pub. At sundown, we drove to Swanage, where we would have some dinner.... read more

It's a number of days since we made a blog entry - last weekend in Dorchester I think. We've been here in Swanage, Dorset since Sunday and are about to leave tomorrow (Friday). Seems we've packed in a lot of touring and walking since we've been here and found a lot of places to visit and cross off our genealogical list. A very good friend we met through Facebook and the Swanage page has taken time from her busy life to show us very interesting villages and buildings around this part of the UK. Linda Welsh and her husband Derek, lifelong residents of Swanage, had a great meal with us the other night at a restaurant on the town bayside. Our accommodation is very good although we had to ask for a room change due to ... read more
