Well I suppose it is time for me to update everyone on my first few days at the University of Bristol. Really my life has been a blur since getting here, which is not a surprise as I am busy 97.5% of the time. The flat that I moved into is rather nice. I have four “lovely” flatmates, a great sized kitchen (with a little balcony?!? - pictures to come later) and a bedroom. Cooking for myself has been a slight adventure, although I think that I am the only one of my mates who actually knows how cook anything besides soup from a can. They are all very enthusiastic and jazzed at being at “Uni” for the first time. Quite frankly though I am not used to having to expend this much energy all the ... read more

Written in Amsterdam Well, at this point I have been awake for twenty-four hours. Really this shouldn’t be a big deal (I mean I am a college student) but right now as I sit in the Amsterdam Airport for going on 8 hours all I can think about is finding a bed and closing my eyes. However, in lieu of sleeping I decided to write my flight-blog now instead of waiting until I was not falling asleep on my feet. Truly I believe that some of my best writing comes when I am beyond tired (read anything that I have written in a college class) and if it is not my best than at least it is amusing. I started out this morning (8:15 am CST) by frantically unpacking and repacking my bags in a ... read more

Hi Friends and Family! Today is the day. Yeah! HOLI - DAY! Yep. Three weeks of laziness, relaxation and nothing to do! Yeah right!! OK folks truth is, it’s the first day of a three week hike around Wales and the NW County of Chester and Cheshire starting with leaving the house at roughly 19:30 and waving goodbye to our cat. We’re cat owners again now, didn’t you know! We took the airport train to Schönefeld Airport which is the train in the suburbs of Berlin-Brandenburg. We were due to take the 21:55 flight to Bristol and arrived at the airport at 20:30. Plenty of time to check-in and buy a few things for the flight we thought. It’s always a pleasure to fly from Berlin ‘cos the airports are so small (not for long though ... read more

After going to bed last night, I decided to flip through the channels to see if I can find a good movie to watch or something interesting. And man did I find something interesting! They had a show on about 11:30 p.m. called “Sexecetera.” Apparently its like a news report, but of places dealing with sexual activities. The first part that I caught was about some couples retreat in the some tropical area, where clothing is optional and that you are free to have intercourse pretty much anywhere you like at anytime you like. The program showed people doing it on couches in the lounge area of the hotel, on the beach, groups in hot tubs, and around the pool. ... read more

Geo: 51.4553, -2.5919Monmouth, Wales to Bristol, EnglandWe only had to travel another 45 minutes to get to our hotel, Marriott-Bristol City Center. Once again we got into the city after the shops had closed and the streets pretty much deserted. Getting in late must be a ploy the traveling company has with the hotel. By getting in late after the shops have closed and there are no restaurants close by, unless one takes a bus or cab or walk 15-30 minutes, one is stuck eating at the hotel and using its bar for entertainment. I decided that I was not going to do that, especially after checking out the expensive meals on the menus for the café styled bar and the main fancy restaurant. After getting my refund for my AAA travel voucher with Dylan (I ... read more

We arrived early afternoon after Laura dropped us off, checked into our hotel and went to have a walk around town. We walked through some old streets, saw some castles and churches and began to search for our daily meal. We decided on a place called FlavourZ as it was something different. It was a buffet restaurant that boasted food from all over. They employ the chefs to prepare the buffet and then they stand in the middle and you can ask they too prepare stuff for you whether it is a Chinese stir fry, Indian curry, Italian, or Mexican. They also had a salad bar and a vegetarian bar too. It was better quality than we thought. After, we found an old retro style bowling alley and bar. Of course we had to stop in ... read more

Panorama - The Clifton Suspension Bridge in Bristol Day 15-17 On another train this morning (did I mention how easy it is to get around England?). This time to Bristol...a brief trip but a much bigger place than Bath. Things weren't too encouraging when I was looking out the window to see rather seedier looking houses and run down buildings. I really didn't know what to expect here. At the train station, I look for the information counter, collect a map and find out about transport to my hostel. I find the bus, pay the fare to a surly driver who obviously doesn't like being the driver. A mother and adult daughter hopped on after me and asked the driver questions about what stop they needed for there destination. The driver grunted and gave short answers. ... read more
