Hi Friends and Family!
Today is the day.
Yeah!
HOLI - DAY!
Yep. Three weeks of laziness, relaxation and nothing to do!
Yeah right!!
OK folks truth is, it’s the first day of a three week hike around Wales and the NW County of Chester and Cheshire starting with leaving the house at roughly 19:30 and waving goodbye to our cat. We’re cat owners again now, didn’t you know!
We took the airport train to Schönefeld Airport which is the train in the suburbs of Berlin-Brandenburg. We were due to take the 21:55 flight to Bristol and arrived at the airport at 20:30. Plenty of time to check-in and buy a few things for the flight we thought.
It’s always a pleasure to fly from Berlin ‘cos the airports are so small (not for long though as bureaucrats want to combine the city of Berlin with the State of Brandenburg to make the Berlin-Brandenburg International Airport. Yuk!) Anyway, I digress.
In short, 10 mins after checking-in, you’re in.
Roughly 10-15 mins after that, security control is over!
If you have to wait at all, it’s at passport control and tonight
the queues were pretty long. ‘Not sure whether it was ‘cos of the summer hols, the time of day or the fact that Berlin is a hub for Easyjet. Suffice to say, we were at the Duty Free Lounge and waiting for the gate number in which to board and we waited and waited and waited and waited.
PLEASE WAIT.
We were to be grossly disappointed as one hour later, we were still waiting. In fact on the table next to us were an Easyjet flight crew merrily waiting for THEIR next flight with no flight in which to fly in!
At some point the plane did arrive and we all eagerly packed into the throngs of the plane ready for lift off at 23:20. Yes, you heard right. 23:20.
1.5 hours later!
The weather was a little humid and even though it was a summer evening, it was looking very much like an Indian summer. “The Small Young Gentleman” was impressed with the lights from the houses and traffic below and even though he has flown loads of time it was still amazing to see how fresh the insight of a young child could
still be.
Of course, at some point that level of interest was bound to wear off and within minutes it did so and the sounds of “I’m bored” and “I’m hungry” filled my ears.
“Home-made cheese sandwiches darling”.
No.
“Fruit perhaps”.
No.
“Cheese and Ham Melted Sandwiches”.
Yes.
Oh no, they’ve run out.
“What then?”
Pizza.
“Pizza?”
Pizza.
And so it was, cheese and tomato pizza. 5 pounds a pop. For a tiny little box thing!
Well it did the job as even before he had actually finished taking the last bite; “The Small Young Gentleman” had fallen asleep!
Lovely. peace and quiet.
At last.
The flight took only 1 hour and 45 mins and before long it was time to wake the little boy up.
But it didn’t work. I even tried putting sloppy kisses all over his cheek. That didn’t work either and he hates kisses! Nevertheless, he didn’t wake up and only perked up when I saw a sleepy hand wipe my lipstick off across his lips and frown. Finally, I somehow knew he was coming to!
We
made it to Bristol Airport and I assumed it was a small regional airport however, unbeknown to me; it had been given international status a few years previously and catered to Mediterranean Islands so the airport was crowded with people coming from the sun.
Ladies and Gentlemen, we left the airport at 12:30 English time and 01:30 German time.
I had arranged for the landlord of our B&B to come and collect us at the airport and thank goodness for that ‘cos by the time we got out of that place it was twenty minutes to two - German time!
I had pre-booked an airport hotel called “Stoneleigh Bed & Breakfast” at 55 pounds for the night.
By 02:30, we were all snoring away and well deserved it was too.
See ya in the morrow!!!

Have a very good hint for you!
Hi Victoria! You endouring traveller. Yes, I made a 1-da tip to Bristol 2008. It' S A CALM AND PEACEFUL city. And -I could not believe it- one can easyly discover people beyond 55 in opposite to London. What you definitly should not miss are the Cottwoulds near Chichester with their unique bizare village houses. I have never seen such kind of buildings before. The National Express will bring you down there and another regional bus. As far as I can remember it is an approx. 2 hours ride from Bristol. Enjoy it!! Love, Ramona
