Shakespeare Pub
We had a few drinks later on in the night. We arrived early afternoon after Laura dropped us off, checked into our hotel and went to have a walk around town. We walked through some old streets, saw some castles and churches and began to search for our daily meal. We decided on a place called FlavourZ as it was something different. It was a buffet restaurant that boasted food from all over. They employ the chefs to prepare the buffet and then they stand in the middle and you can ask they too prepare stuff for you whether it is a Chinese stir fry, Indian curry, Italian, or Mexican. They also had a salad bar and a vegetarian bar too. It was better quality than we thought. After, we found an old retro style bowling alley and bar. Of course we had to stop in for a game and a drink. We weren’t overly impressed with our scores but is a cool place and it had some weird drink concoctions on the menu.
We carried on from here back to the hotel for a rest and to prepare a few things for the wedding. Whilst ‘trying’ to iron Troy’s new shirt with a useless iron, 1 hour and a
Kings Head
This is where the king went for good head, on his beer. stain later we approached reception for another iron we were only greeted with unhelpful rudeness. Don’t stay at Hotel Ibis in Bristol unless you want to deal with rude staff with attitude. It has been the only time Troy has completed a customer satisfaction survey, ever. Also they have a 15 minute promise that they break and no fridge in the room.
Later we headed out for a drink at the closest pub, Shakespeare. We had a couple of drinks whilst having a few rounds of pool with a few English lads and one kamp one with spray on jeans. The rules are quite different here, including if you commit a foul, then your opponent gets to place the white ball anywhere on the table and take his two shots. Best out of 2 out of 3 (we won) and the pub was calling last drinks, whilst leaving there was a bunch of old timers chanting something at full noise.
Upon returning to the hotel Anna ran over to meet her long-time friend Jo, and her partner Alex, whom Troy had never met. We had bonding drinks and headed to bed.
Bath and the wedding.
After
Breakfast we got ready for the wedding and headed for the bus. The trip to Bath is quite scenic with rolls of green hills with the occasional bright yellow one. The church was a picture; the traditional catholic wedding was beautiful. Afterwards we headed for Preston Mill to the reception, which had more scenic green hills, ancient sandstone buildings, (there is even a McDonalds in one of them). The old mill which was on the hillside and had an awesome little farmhouse which was the reception hall. It was a freezing day and when Anna found out our table was the closest to the bar, she proudly screamed ‘ jackpot’.
Troy finally got to meet Eleanor, another friend that Troy had not met yet. Eleanor, Jo and Anna used to work together with the bride and groom back in Japan. Also met Vinnie from Brazil, Keon from Amsterdam, and his wife Meghann ( originally from the US). Was a great table to sit at.
Throughout the night we got to meet some really cool people including Laura from Ireland, and Troy who had never met another Troy, and said that his dad only picked that name because it
was sounded strong. Can’t argue with that.
After a few toasts and rising of glasses, the speech’s made Troy tear up. The romantic reception was a success, with all of us getting up to boogie, many a story told and tips for our next destinations given. Troy must have had a few because he promised quite a few people he would drink Guinness in Dublin. Troy loves his beer, NOT.
Time seemed to blast past and before we knew it we had said goodbye to the Bride and Groom and did the ceremonial arches. Back on the bus then to have a few drinks back at home, of course.
7am morning start meant things couldn’t get too out of hand, and we had to say our goodbyes rather early. (Not……..it was nearly 4am but we all know Troy loses track of time……..Bless him……as Jo would say….)
In the morning we had to rearrange everything to be distributed over our 4 bags in order to fly with Ryan air, they have strict baggage allowances. Then to the airport, and on to Dublin.
