Myself (Rach) and a few colleagues from AXA Insurance - (Lance, Ashley and Laurent) decided to do a mini triathlon hosted by JP Morgan. Don't ask me why, we just thought it might be fun..... It was held out at near Windsor at Eton college, where the princes went to college, also the 2012 Olympic rowing site. There were about 120 competitors split into 3 waves. We were all provided with wetsuites for our dip in the lake which was surprisingly warm. We started with the 400m swim (Poms cannot swim so this was a breeze!), followed by a 20km bike (on my shiney new bike Justin got me for my birthday) and finishing with a 5km run. I finished the race with a time of 1hr 20mins and ended up coming 3rd woman. We had ... read more

June 2006 Sorry, only a couple of pics with this one, I've hardly taken any (the reasons for which will become clear). You'll just have to make do with the incisive, entertaining and enlightening writing!! Truly exotic locations are hard to find so, once I had made up my mind on where to go to from South America, I travelled to a ONE-IN-A-MILLION destination. After I lifted my head from the pillow in Lima, Peru, the next time I laid it to rest was in a place unrivalled for its stunning vistas, distinctive culture and magical mystique..... Berkhamsted, Hertfordshire, England! (Not "In a forest?" as my Brother-in-law queried after miss-hearing my location when I rang him to tell him I was home). He was even more surprised (probably nearer to shocked, actually) when I moved in ... read more

Berkshire's Horseraces have returned to Ascot. Two years ago they closed down the racecourse where they had the annual races for remodeling. Remodeling's done and it's open again. The Ascot races are Berkshire's social event of the season. Of course we went for the opening day cerimonies. I wouldn't pass up this chance to embarrass myself. You all know me better than that. Tourist do the damnist things. Besides, I needed something to do. Been back in the yU.K. for about a week now and my feet are getting itchy. Bought some General Admition tickets for Tuesday and found that the dresscode was strict. To be in the general admission area men were required to where a shirt and tie. Jacket was apprecitated but not required. Ladies were required to "Dress for a smart occassion". Hats ... read more

My last night in Reading for the next few months, and with Edinburgh beckoning in September, one of my last nights as a resident of this fair town... ever? (never say ever...) What better way to celebrate this, and my friend Matt's birthday, than a curry with the lads (and lass) and some quality television. This time tomorrow I shall be hovering over Washington. Take care of England while I'm away, and in return I'll try and I'll take care of America. Tim x... read more

...and of course I've not yet begun to pack. I've instead been doing so much more important stuff like setting up a blog, ordering a battery charger for my camera battery (after remembering that the USA and South America only have half the electricity and two-thirds of the pins that we have the privilege of in Europe) and ensuring I have memory for my mp3 player. OK - I may forget my underwear or something but at least I can go commando to the sound of the Freestylers' Push Up (and have the photographs to post here). Hmmm. Maybe I should start packing. However, I have now got my injections, and the certificates and plasters to prove it. Must stay away from rabid animals though. Enjoy the coming journals. Cheers for reading, Tim... read more

So am back in the UK. Will be here for a little while now, although I find myself missing getting up and walking each morning. Has the Camino changed me? Yes I think it has. Not in my choice of path or direction. I guess it confirmed what I already knew to be true. It also has made me more than happy with who I am. Whenever I get down in the future I will look back to some of those days when I was on the Camino and realise that the way I have chosen, with my heart, was and is the right one for me. Plans to travel are still in the blueprint stage. I have to be hanging around Wokingham until probably early July. However, this is only a base where I can ... read more

Ok so I haven't been doing much lately. Staying in Maidenhead, watching football and cricket, playing pool and hanging out with friends. But that is plenty for now. Thought you all might like to have a peek at who Im hanging out with. The other day we went out to Smokey Joes. Met some friends there and spent the night drinking and dancing. Our new housemate went with us too. Oh, forgot. We have a new housemate. His name is Johannas; or just Jo. He has a little girl which is often running around the house on the weekends. She's cute, and pretty quiet for a 4 year old. Jo is from South Africa and has been lots of places. He's an easy guy to get along with and works as an electrical engineer, just down ... read more

Feeling quite sniffy as I leave Compton Lacey. What a special bunch of people. In some ways this has felt like home more than my flat which I also leave in the next week. People are always more important than places - or perhaps they just add so many other dimensions to the experience of place. It is still a month before I leave but this feels like the first step and I am happy and sad at the same time. Didn't Shakespeare talk about parting being "sweet sorrow"? (What a wise man!) This is really a bit of a test to see how the blog looks. If you're viewing it, then welcome. I hope you'll keep in touch over the next months or years. more soon...... read more

Hello all, This post is mainly to test if this thing works.Just wanted to say I am terified about my trip. Remember when I went away the first time from Canada. I was in a bar with friendsand I said something like "I'll be off then." I then proceeded to leave and; much to my annoyance; not yet return. No send off this time but a very lovely weekend with friends in Torquay. Wish me luck tommorow all.... read more

Two trains, a bus and an hour away is Windsor Castle. Quite impressive. Its a really big place. I mean I knew it was a castle but this place is huge. We arrived just down the hill from where the castle was, by way of bus. The bus came to a stop and most of the people got off. This usually means that is the popular site. Did we get off? Nah. All those people must be wrong. We thought, maybe there is another stop that is closer. Of course there wasn't and we found this out when the bus went around the block and started heading back the way we had come. So we got off at the next stop, which was further away from the castle. All par for the course. Windsor is ... read more
