FRIDAY 8 APRIL – ZURICH, SWITZERLAND Our last morning we went for breakfast at another friend Nadja's house who also lives in Ingelheim with her husband Michael and 2 daughters Lily and Ava. Last time we were in Ingelheim, we stayed with Nadja but in another house in town. Corky and I were on our honeymoon at the time. After breakfast we said our sad goodbyes, loaded up our van and headed south for Zurich, Switzerland. The drive took us through Heidelberg where we stopped for lunch and to explore the famous Heidelberg Castle. After we were sated with food and history, we headed down the autobahn with Corky reaching 150kph in the slow lane! I don't think the van or my nerves could cope with going any faster, especially since the view started to blur. ... read more

Last day in Switzerland required that we travel from Luzern to Zurich. We were flying home from Zurich the next day. We arrivevd in Zurich via train travel from Luzern. This only took about an hour on the train. We stayed at the Zurich Renaissance Hotel. It was a 10 minute tram ride from the Zurich Airport train station. We didn't really have anything planned to do in Zurich, so we decided to just head into City Center and wander. We took the tram in and decided that we would walk towards Bahnaufstrasse. Its a mile of elegant shopping with all the big name stores... from Cartier to Longchamp to Tiffanys to LV. Mid way thru the our shopping, we made several pit stops to check out St. Peter's Church, the Fraumunster and Grossmunster. St. Peter's ... read more

I travel by train to the beautiful city of Zurich. The train ride was breathtaking as far as the sights were concerned. I would look out my window and see the snow caps still on top of the mountains, and then the greenery in the valley's. This was probably my most favorite train ride in all of the years I have travelled thus far. When I arrive at the train station, it was raining very hard, so I put on my rain jacket, get my instructions to the hostel, and away I go. If I am not mistaken, this was the first time I have had to try to find my hostel during a pouring down rain. Not fun. Every time I would pull out my instructions, they would get more water soaked and harder to ... read more

It’s 6 AM and Kirsten and Bea are standing over me ready to go to the airport. I’m lying in bed thinking can I just get another hour of sleep? NO! I struggle to the bathroom, I turn on the shower, I step in, it feels great, one problem, I still have my pajamas on. As I exit the shower Kirsten catches me and says baby you are one tired puppy. Yea! We’re out of the hotel and heading to the Flughoffen (Airport). Bea comments that this is our best time ever, as I’m still brushing my teeth. We turn the car in and start pulling our luggage through the airport. I keep thinking; I hope, I get bumped, I hope I get bumped, about that time Kirsten, looks at me and says, NOT EVEN NO, ... read more

After Interkalen we headed to Zurich for one final day and night of exploring. We walked around for a while and ate Fondue at a well rated spot. After that I packed my bags and prepared for my trip home. Farewell travel, until next time.... read more

It’s 5 AM and Maria has fixed me a famous German breakfast. She got up earlier and got me up knowing I needed to be on the road by 6 AM. It was a great night sleep, its cool here and I slept with the windows open. It was great. I finished breakfast; Maria gave me all my instructions along with a picnic lunch for us all, just like momma and Oma. I loaded all my stuff into the car and pointed it toward Zurich. I’m following the same route I came, how hard can this be? Well it was, it pouring down raining and it’s dark. Long story short, I missed my turn and had to get my maps out and find another route. It helps to have a navigator. Finally, I’m heading in the ... read more

Who said travel was easy? The scene starts with an overnight flight from Barbados to Frankfurt where you are served dinner at 11 pm local time and breakfast at 2.30 am. You get off the flight at 4.30am but it is 10.30am local time. Feeling fresh (I wish) you find the correct rental car counter only to have drama – “No, you cannot go to Croatia.” “But on our form, it says we can go!” Debating with three levels of management later, they will let us take a Mondeo station wagon to Croatia, but not the car we booked, or the offered VW Jetta. Much debate later and a calming word from Eileen (who was ‘bag sitting’ for the duration), we take the VW and kiss goodbye to Croatia. Only an hour late, we get out ... read more

The alarm in my mobile phone rang at 2.30 that morning. Woke up and prepared my favourite backpack and the other stuff to accompany me during this two days trip. My destination is Rheinfall or Rhine fall, one of largest waterfall in central Europe. I first hear about this place from my friend Sarrah, who will also joined with me in the trip. We both meet in front of my house and walking straight to the train station. Not too far, only need 15 minutes. As we arrived, we checked the departure time and platform through the big screen in the centre of the station. our train already on track and we jump on. it takes around three hours to get to Bregenz, one of the city in west part of Austria. A lot of empty ... read more

July 11th: Still not feeling 100% but it's that annoying thing where it might be hunger pangs (I ate nothing yesterday) or it might be ongoing stomach issues... so I'm having a very simple, very careful breakfast, then I might have a quick lie down to see how that goes. I'd like to get out and about because I'm heading to Milan tomorrow and I don't want Zurich to be a complete write-off! -Later- Zurich is looking more and more like a write-off, thanks to this stupid gastro thing. After a decent rest at the hostel I have braved the streets but I can't eat any of the nice foods I see and I'm worried about exploring too far since I just got hit with some fairly crippling stomach cramps a second ago... it's ridiculous really, ... read more

July 10th: A sleep has not helped, I'm burning a fever and the less said about what's happening with my bottom, the better! Eva has supplied me with a range of medicines so broad, I feel as though I've visited a pharmacy! Her parents have offered to let me stay longer (because they are lovely generous people) but as usual I'm stubbornly sticking to my plans, no matter what my body says. I'm hoping that I've just over-indulged on the food yesterday rather than it be a gastro bug or something... if it is, then I guess I'm spreading it down the continent to Switzerland! The Zurich station was full of people smoking, just what the body needs when you're not feeling your best. I've noticed that with most European train stations actually... I guess it's ... read more
