My apologies to all of my loyal followers. We have been without Internet for the better part of the last week or have been traveling very frequently. Where to begin....... Kos, Greece is a small island off the coast of Turkey. It is one of Scandinavia's most popular vacation destinations. Everyone we met there was either Swedish, Norwegian, Danish, or Finish. That's it. Probably the best five days of my life and I'm sure Matt and Sean would agree. It is a fantasy land. Gorgeous beaches, bars, clubs, warm water, and the people are just as nice. Brian showed us a great time. Yes I will admit that the late night partying with all the free drinks we could get was a lot of fun but honestly some of the more sober moments proved to be ... read more

After our adventures in Kos we were off to Switzerland. After a night over in Milan, we took the train to Zermatt which is a small ski town at the base of the Matterhorn. If you don't know what the Matterhorn is google it. It is one of the most striking things I have ever seen. Maybe you have ridden the Matterhorn at Disneyland. Let me point out the obvious but there is no comparison. It is truly one of those "holy shit" moments when you see it for the first time. During the train ride to Zermatt our jaws were dropped just looking at the surrounding Alps. They literally felt as if they were going to fall on top of you. Almost engulf you. But when you get that first view of the Matterhorn itself....It ... read more

Not having enough time to make any stops, I was forced to take pictures of the Alps on the trains from Luzern to Bellinzona and Lugano to Zürich. The train travels through central Switzerland and through the Gotthard Tunnel, which is a 9 mile long rail tunnel. Going south, the tunnel begins in Canton Uri in German-speaking Switzerland, and ends up in Canton Lugano, in the Italian-speaking part. The 3-hour train ride from Lugano to Zürich allows one to experience the ontime perfection and efficiency of the Swiss trains, the beautiful Swiss landscape, and the tunnels and highways through the mountains, signs of Swiss engineering. I had only 2.5 hours in Zürich, making a long stop on the ride home from Lugano to Eichstätt. Being the only place in Switzerland that most Americans can name, you ... read more

My favorite bar in Zürich is the Älpli BAR. If you want a true Swiss experience, visit Aelpli bar in Zurich. When I have out of town guests, I bring them here. You feel like you are up in the Alpsinstead of the city down a tiny alley. Its a bit difficult to find so you really have to be on the lookout. Every night they have live Swiss music but it gets especially hopping on a weekend night. The bar has recently changed management so not quite sure about the food. I’m not sure if they serve food anymore. They weren’t at 8 pm. This is where I had raclette for the first time, which I have become a huge fan! I went with a friend who had never been before. We arrived right at ... read more

Travelling from London to Basel was decent, got a nice little nap on the plane. Arrived in Basel around 11am and made it to Zurich by 3. So I took a tram to the Klinglhoffer household where i would be staying. They are family friends and it was great to see them again! I had almost forgotten how much fun they all were. First thing was first: Embrace my surroundings. All bodies were out of the house doing their Thursday routines so i dropped my backpack, said hi to Ella and Calico, the dog and cat, and made my way out in the beautiful weather of Zurich. Saw LOTS of swans and ducks and sail boats on the lake. Basically took myself in a big circle around the neighborhood here. It was great to just explore. ... read more

The pictures are already loaded for this on the picture entry, so go back to those if you want... Sorry I'm so behind.... Zurich! February 3-5 a group of us went to Zurich for the weekend. I loved Zurich. The whole big main town area (Old Town-ish) was absolutely gorgeous! We saw lots of churches (including one with the largest clock face in Europe), Sprungli chocolate factory, the banking street with all the headquarters, Bahnhoffstrasse (supposedly one of the most expensive streets in the entire world – except there were a surprising number of not-expensive stores so we were a little confused…), FIFA headquarters (even though it was closed because it was the weekend…), the Swiss National Museum (really interesting and HUGE with lots of artifacts from the different periods of Swiss history and all sorts ... read more

Namaste und Sawadi-kap meine Lieben! Nun bin ich also wieder da. Was habe ich nicht ... read more

It was the first day in Switzerland...and first day in Europe! How exciting, except that I already managed to break off one of the wheels of my luggage. Then I had fun carrying that around in the first snow of Zurich to find my first host in Erlenbach. I would be based here for four more days. My couch host (Alvaro) was very nice, and his apartment has the best view. After I arrived, he offered to show me around Zurich for a day. We went on a boat ride around Lake Zurich to a chocolate factory in Thawil, then spent the rest of the day walking around the city and Alstadlt (Old Town). I was jetlagged, but enjoyed my first day here, not to mentioned I tasted the best cheese ever in my life... We ... read more
