Update on the trip from Vasteras to Stockholm: I had a really interesting thing happen while we were waiting for the train to take us to Stockholm. As those of you who know me well know, I am extremely partial to a pretty male face!!!!!!!!!! And I love taking photos. So there I am sitting at the train station, soaking wet, it was pouring down, first rain in forever for Vasteras, and in walks this drop dead gorgeous, model looking young guy. Of course I start to oggle him, in good Kiwi fashion, or perhaps that should actually say........in typical Dee fashion.......lol.......and start thinking about what a great picture he would takeā€¦..anyway he catches me staring at him and I get acutely embarrassed at being sprung so smile and then look away. He smiles at me ... read more

Leaving Kalmar in the morning. Reserved a seat on the express train to Stokholm, a must for scanrail passholder. Made a quick stop along the way to a town called Emmaboda. Nothing special except a quick visit to the supermarket for food. Then next stop is Vaxjo. It is quite a bigger town with a population of 70 thousands inhabitants. It was going to rain. Had a swedish cake for lunch. Spent a little time in the cathedral. Back to the train on route to Stockholm. Arrived in the train station and got help from a Swedish lady who is on her way to the airport. She showed me which street to exit and walk to the old town. Able to arrive at the hostel but then the door was locked and were directed to the ... read more

So... here it all begins! On the 28th of September we leave Sweden and our world around trip starts!!! with a visit in Thailand. Our flight goes to Bangkok. There we spend a couple of days shopping before we head up north to Chiang Mai. In Chiang Mai Christopher wants to take a basic thai massage course and I, Frederica, wanna see if I can find a nice teacher for learning silverwork. I would like to learn how to make fittings for stones in rings, necklaces and bracelets. Then Julian and I will be exploring the city while Cs in school, hopefully we find some cool place to hang out and maybe meet some thai playmates! :) We have 10 weeks in Thailand so after maybe 3 or 4 weeks in the north we wanna split ... read more

After spending a few days in Aeroskobing (Danmark) it is time to move on to the next country: Sweden. In the early morning, I left the hostel in the island and walked to the terminal. Stopped by a bakery on the island to indulge some delicious danish bakery. Then is a short walk to the ferry terminal for the ride to the mainland. Arrived at the terminal with spare time to take a regional train to Odense. Then connecting to the express train to Copenhagen. In copenhagen hopped on another train to Kalmar arrive in Kalmar in the late afternoon. On this very same train, I am (a foreinger) on the right train to my destination while two fellow locals got on the wrong train to their destination (at an opposite direction). They laughed at the ... read more

Today, Sunday 13th Jeff and I walked to Vallby. Vallby is an open air museum type of place. Jeff has been there a few times before, but today was stoked to find that the very old buildings were open. And what was even better, in a lot of them, there were people, both young and old dressed in period costume going about their business as if they were in a time warp. It was GREAT! Jaibyn, there is a photo for you at the end of this blog. Think what the old houses were like they used to have in the Early Settlers Museum in Dunedin. I used to love going there as a kid, looking at what it was like for the early settlers of the town. Well this was like that but much much ... read more

Hi everyone, Firstly, only one comment on my last blog (thanks Nat)? I miss them, especially the cheeky ones! Today Jeff and I wandered around the old town part of Vasteras, it was lovely. Then we went shopping........again! As I mentioned previously, one of the few Swedish words I recognise is Rea, which means sale, so you can imagine my surprise when I saw a big sign that had sale on it plus another word. The picture included contains that other word. I'm sorry but my strange sense of humour found this very amusing. I don't think I have mentioned this but you can't buy booze the way we do in NZ, well everywhere in NZ except Invercargill. In Sweden the State runs the booze outlets and sets the prices etc. The shops are only open ... read more

Hello everyone, quite a bit has happened since we both made our last entries. For starters we are now both in the same country again and that country is quite different to the one where we met up again. For both of us is was quite difficult for a few reasons to leave our adopted countries of residence, Germany and Canada. The thought of travelling to Sweden and Thailand did take the edge off a bit but it was still difficult. Kristian and I have talked about what advise we would give to people setting off on a trip like ours; Socks, bring lots of socks. But also you should always ask yourself this: In this city, where I am flying out of, is there 2 airports? Because sometimes there are, and sometimes you spend 3 ... read more

Yesterday we wandered around the town and I got to do some shopping! Yah! I also took a bunch of photos, some of which I have enclosed here. Speaking of photos, Howard, excellent comment as always mate!........lol.........I contemplated putting a note under that photo saying that I did have clothes on, but then figured it might be fun just to let people wonder.......ha ha I had to take the photo of the life bouy as I was surprised as hell to see it. Jeff says that they are everywhere. Now if the river was a raging torrent it might have made sense but I have also added a photo of said river. Can you imagine if they had life bouys all along the Leith? I was making this comment to Jeff about the Leith and all ... read more

Well, I arrived in Sweden in the morning after a transfer in Amsterdam. Didn't talk to a single security officer, no customs officers and no baggae check, just grabbed my bag and walked out of the airport. I grabbed a train to Stockholm, hopped on a bus to the ferries, then floated my way to Gotland Island. Peter, my buddy I met in Perth Australia, had arranged everything I needed to do which made it very easy to find my way here. Upon arrival in Visby, Peter picked me up and we jumped in a limo back to his place. Gotland is awesome! Visby, the city on Gotland, is very medieval and is surrounded by a massive stone wall built hundreds of years ago. The shops and houses are all built to keep the medieval look, ... read more
