For a country whose credits include IKEA, Volvo, Abba, the smorgasboard buffet, and rotten herrings, the Swedish capital has certain attributes which elevate its status beyond your average European city. OK, so the cost of living might ultimately make your wallet weep, the winters may be long and oppressive, and the food culture may not appeal to everyone, but this is officially Europe's cleanest capital city, and it has to be, for my money, Europe's most pleasantly cyclable city. Four nights at a city centre hotel proved to be the best plan, as the urban sprawl is set out on 14 main islands, and a centrally-located hotel is something which a visitor to the city would consider to be vital. With a one-day Stockholm card, I was able to see a wide variety of attractions, and ... read more

Today dad brought us to see people who have been in space. He said that the people we are going to meet are not so special. Their names are Robert Curbeam, Christer Fuglesang, Mark Polansky and Joan Higginbotham. We asked dad if maybe Yoda or Obi-Wan Kenobi would come with them. Dad gave us a smile and said that he didn't think so. But we decided to go with dad to Stockholm University where the space men and the space woman was going to speak. We don't care much for guys like Robert Curfew, Joan Hediousbottom, Crises Fuglesang and Birthmark Polansky but a small cha... read more

Finally, I have a job. Or actually, I have three jobs, or six...... 1- As a waitress at a castle where I used to work before I left for L.A. I called them up when I got to Stockholm, and as it turns out, their regular waitress is going to quit in may to move to London. So as for now, I work in their cafe on saturdays and sundays, and in the main-building as a waitress when there's a bal, wedding or other big gathering. In may, I will start working full-time there as a waitress, and more whenever there is a big reservation. The boss (she is from about 100km south of my hometown. so we have a connection) even offered me and Jesper to live in one of the wings at the castle. ... read more

My weekend was great. I had time to catch up with a lot of my friends. Nothing really happened on friday. Well, I did meat up for tea and cookies (!) with two of my best friends, Camilla and Cecilia at Camillas apartment. She lives in a 3 bdrm apartment with her boyfriend and two other guys. They have kind of a "music-collaboration-complex". All of them are musicians and/or producers and they spend most of their time doing music (when they are not out drinking beer that is). You can listen to some of their stuff at www.myspace.com/midorimusic. After that, I went out to eat tapas with another one of my best friends Jenny (the girl who I did background vocals for when she had a gig at "the Mint"). We fell asleep pretty early that ... read more

Finally, Im back in Sweden. It feels like I have been travelling for a week straight. London was great. But my legs hurts soooo bad from all the walking. I was hoping to be able to go to the gym this weekend. But it seems like I have to wait until next week, otherwise my legs might fall off! I just left my man on the bus at the train-station (yes, you do take buses from the train-station in Stockholm). He is going back to our hometown where he will be working. Whilöe Im here in Stockholm, trying to find a job. That is my mission for today: find a job. Well, its 1.45pm, and I have just arrived, so I havent gotten started just yet. I am contacting one of the companies that I used ... read more

Ok. /Rosanna å Chris... read more

Left Stockholm for Malmo on the morning of 15th of Feb. With the fast express train it took only 4 hours or smooth and quiet journey thru the thickly wooded forests and farm lands of south Sweden. There is something so convenient and refreshing to get on a comfortable train in the city center of one town and end up in the city center of the next, bypassing the airports. The culture shock was not as pronounced than what i would later receive in Amsterdam and for sure in Paris. Malmo's sophistication and civility does not trail too much behind that of Stockholm. The city is much smaller, lacking the major waterways and the archipelago so much associated with charm of Stockholm, but buildings are similarly constructed and there is a vibrant and orderly city life, ... read more

Day 13: Arriving in Stockholm. Took the early flight out of Merida at 6 am to catch the flight to New York form Caracas in time. Made the big mistake of going out with 3 local Meridans late into the night, which allowed only 2 hours of sleep. Upon arrival in JFK took the train into town and walked around with my back pack in the 20 degree weather and wind. Had lunch in the little India region at Lexington and 28th street and headed to catch the overnight plane from Newark to Stockholm. Arrived the following day to the spotless airport of Stockholm, on a rare sunny day temp of -5 c. A timely and quiet train awaited us at the main terminal to the center of the Stockholm for 28 dollars. As can be ... read more
