After a 'beautiful' 6 hour bus journey from Siem Reap over dirt tracks we finally arrived back in Thailand where we took a train to Bangkok. We spent four days there and far too much money after wondering into a tailors to 'browse'...... six pairs of trousers, two jackets, ten shirts, a skirt and a silk dressing gown (Garry's little Delboy touch) later, we decided to get the hell out and caught the overnight train north to Chiang Mai. Chiang Mai is a refreshing city after spending time in Bangkok - the air is less polluted and the town feels less claustrophobic as there is plenty of open land on the outskirts. The night market is buzzing each evening with food and gift stalls so the shopping, which was meant to have stopped, began again, much ... read more

“A month in Spain” by Chris xo After I said a tearful goodbye to Shane at the airport and headed through security I pulled myself together (very efficiently) and headed to my departure gate. After a long wait the flight finally boarded and I found myself sitting next to a man, who was to become the most annoying person ever to sit next to on a flight. He drove me crazy for the entire 10 hours and prevented me from getting a wink of sleep. Before the flight had even left he had already taken his shoes and socks off and started scratching away madly at his feet. He also made a throaty noise every 30 seconds, picked his nose, wore intoxicatingly bad cologne and constantly leant on me and stretched his feet into my ... read more

Driving up to Mas Terrillo is not an especially memorable experience, so I was not prepared for what I saw when we walked up the pathway to the house. It was stunning - very much a true hacienda-type of Spanish house. Outside was a courtyard, at the end of which was a small chapel. The house rose in the background, lit warmly to cast off an inviting glow. In the courtyard were tables and a small bar, where the guests were mingling as waiters and waitresses with trays of hors d'oeuvres and drinks slipped in and out of their groups. In the background, the tents for dinner were hidden behind an arch with vines and flowers winding their way around. I looked to my left and in the distance, I could see the mountains and a ... read more

I am offically a badass snowboarder chick. Last Saturday I took off with a couple of my friends to the Sierra Nevada mountains to give snowboarding a shot. I've been a skiier (not a very good one) since I was 11. My friend Mike promised to give me free lessons if I went along with him, so Carla and I decided to join Matt and him on their escapade to the mountains. We took a bus, and it only took us 40 minutes to get to a small tourist town in the mountains. It was an absolutely gorgeous day. I didn't even need to wear a coat. I made sure to wear my Batman shirt, so in case I was aweful at snowboarding, I would still look cool. ;) We rented all of the equipment and ... read more

This weekend we went on a group trip to Seville, Granada, and Cordoba. It was a long weekend filled with hours on a bus. But it was really neat, the south of Spain is gorgeous and I loved all the Muslim influence! We left on Thursday afternoon and didn't get to Seville until 12:30...after being lost looking for the hotel in Seville for quite a while. It was frustrating, our bus driver was horrible! He swerved a lot and even hit the rumble strips on the sides of the roads pretty often. Another annoying part of the bus ride was the fact that we would stop for a half hour or more! Spanish people are just so laid back and slow with things! All of us New Yorkers didn't know what to do with ourselves for ... read more

Joining the companions for the morning, we departed for the Gaudi tour of Barcelona. Our first stop was La Sagrada Familia, or the Sacred Family - Gaudi's church. The church has been in the process of completion for over 100 years, and is likely to take 40 more years. Gaudi knew that he would not finish it in his lifetime, and so he first built one side of it, so the people of Barcelona would always have one side that was his. The finished church will focus on three sides: the birth, death and resurrection of Christ - Gaudi completed the death side, which depicts Jesus on the cross with a book instead of a head and hsi face seen on a cloth. Every piece of the church relates to the religious nature - Gaudi liked ... read more
