Two hours to kill before the departure of the Algeciras-Cadiz bus. I decide to go for a walk in the harbour area. Loitering in a city’s underworld is always a pleasure. But this time will prove to be a lousy idea. A black car closes me in a alley and two not too friendly fellas come out from the vehicle. They will reveal themselves to be policemen in civil outfits, but at the time I didn’t know it. After identify themselves, they proceed to ask for my documents and press me to deliver all drugs in my possession. I answer that I’m clean and they start the old tale “if you handle it to us all is fine, if we search you and find it you are in big troubles”. Yeah, right. I repeat once again ... read more

hi all! So I never write about the week since it isn't interesting at all, I go to classes, come home for meals and sleeping and trying to get on the internet...which has been hard to do lately from home. Anyway, this weekend was really nice and relaxing. On Friday we went to the Fallas Museum and the Hemispheric (which an IMAX theater part of the Arts and Sciences City). The Fallas Museum was pretty cool, we saw all the Ninots (figures) that won (and so were not burned). It was interesting to see the progression since the first ones were very plain and had people with real clothes on and the newer ones were a lot more creative and detailed. At the Hemispheric we saw a documentary about the Titanic, it was by James Cameron ... read more

This weekend was a blast. Our program director, Begonia, threw a bachelorette party and invited all the girls in our group. It was sooo much fun! I mostly just spent time hanging out and dancing with the girls, and meeting up with some of my great Spanish guy friends. They're a blast, and they don't speak English so I get a lot of practice in. I don't have much time to write now, but enjoy the pictures and I'll add more detail at the end of this week after midterms (Yikes!). Happy Sunday! :) Amor y Besos, Laura Lee :)... read more

One day and one night in Málaga, yet another whirlwind trip but it's a small enough city to enjoy in a day. Got a nice welcome from the hostel I stayed at - Picasso's corner, literally round the corner from where Picasso was born, of course now turned into a 'fundacio'. I spent a good part of the day at the Alcazaba, former palace/fortress for the Muslim leaders, built in the 11th century. Great views of the city and the port. There's a Roman theatre below the Alcazaba, which you'll see on your way to the entrance from Placa de la Merced (where I stayed). Of course, I only found out about a certain elevator that takes you up to the heart of the Alcazaba after I had climbed up. It figures! Above the Alcazaba ... read more

Saturday the 24th, we got ready to leave for Spain!!!!! Ya I couldn't wait to get there. This was the first flight that I actually was awake taking off and landing. I like to sleep on planes. We arrived in Reus airport quite late and we didn't think we were going to be able to take a bus to Salou so we were looking for a taxi. I happened to spot a bus that said Salou on the front and spoke to the guy and he said no problem where you going. We totally lucked out and the bus dropped us off right in front of our hotel. The hotel was nice and clean and the room had a double and a single bed so it worked out pretty good. We basically dropped our bags, ... read more

On March 22nd we flew from Dublin to the Girona airport in Spain. Luckily we were able to catch a bus into Barcelona quicker than expected and got to Scott and Barbs around 11:30pm. On Friday while they were at school we walked to the Sagrada Familia and the beach. Despite being under construction for the past 120 years and still a long ways from being finished, the Sagrada Familia is the largest and most popular attraction in Barcelona. That evening after Scott got back from coaching soccer we went to a chicken place for dinner. On Saturday the four of us did tons of sightseeing, Scott and Barb were GREAT tour guides! We had tapas (Spanish appetizers) for dinner at a great restaurant and then hung out at their flat. On Sunday we went ... read more

Hola! So, I know it was coming up, the day when I'd no longer be safe driving in not onlt my own state, but also my neighboring refugee, Pennsylvania...so, the questions is...did it happen yet? Anyway, over here in the very safe country of Spain life is going pretty well. Yesterday evening Laura and I went out with a few friends that we met at our CLM futbol game. We went and played pool, it was fun. Then this morning, lacking classes or anything better to do I got up early and went for a run. I've been trying to run a couple of times a week, just to be prepped for Surf and stuff when I come back, so, I went running. That makes three times this week! I think that's pretty good. It's fun ... read more

First of all, I’d like to apologize for not writing for so long…I’m sure you are wondering how the rest of my spring vacation was after the disaster that was Naples! Well, as I said before, once that plane landed in Barcelona I felt a sigh of relief. The weather was perfect, the airport was clean, we flew in right over the ocean…it was getting better already. I would have loved to stay in Barcelona because many people had told me that Barcelona was a great city to visit, but I instead decided to head south to Valencia with some friends from school. It was an easy ride from the airport to the train station and luckily I was on the same train as my friends. The ride from Barcelona to Valencia was beautiful because ... read more
