We left the albergue about 7am, stopping at the Panaderia de Los Arcos for some coffee and sweets. There were a lot of wheat fields with mountain backgrounds in the 7 kilometers between Los Arcos and Sansol, the first town along the way. It was fairly flat, compared to other days, so far. At the entrance to Sansol we stopped at the Tienda Colmado for another cup of coffee and some sweets, our second breakfast. Once we left Sansol, and Torres del Rio its neighbor behind, it would be almost 10 kilometers with nothing. Fortunately, there was a donativo about half way that had some soda, water and fruit. A donativo is a place where someone sets up with fruit, water, soda, etc., and usually you pay what you want to donate. In this case, everything ... read more

COMPLETO This is a swear word on the Way, and today I walked 7 extra kilometres because of it. It means full, no beds, go away. That was the hospitality I received in Los Arcos today, and there are no other options. Maybe I could have turn my poncho into a tent, camped out,and hoped that the wild animals of Navarra that eat aged meat don’t mistake my snoring for the last groans of a vulnerable beast. Sansol, a tiny hamlet balancing on the edge of a hill 7 kilometres past Los Arcos, is a place of questionable charm and I suspect most pilgrims stop for a coffee and move on. The Albergue Sansol is a hidden gem located off the main street. The beds have a blanket, so in my mind I don’t need a ... read more

I left Los Arcos early this morning with Nicole. David passed us on a march later as he has to be at Burgas by Weds. The albergue didn't provide breakfast and we had it in mind to stop at a bar in Sansol later. Still in the dark we took a wrong turn. Behind us is a man from British Columbia who followed us in the dark. We return together to get on the right path and walk the next few kms just the 3 of us. Our aim is to reachTorres del Rio and stay there. The fields are mostly golden with the others red earth. We pick and eat grapes straight from the vine as we pass fields of old grape vines pruned to be trees. The occasional one being esplanaded across wire so ... read more

Well it's been awhile so here's what happening . Leaving Pamplona I caught a bus to Los Arcos where I stayed one night at Casa Austria. The following day after a nice breakfast of bread bread and more bread and jelly and coffee I started off for my next designation which was casa Marela (sp) in Tierra del Rio. I've been meeting some really cool people. One girl 26 years old has traveled the world .She does not have a phone and she doesn't know where she's going one day to the next. The best place for her so far was a town in New Zealand I forget the name. Today she has a very swollen foot and it's going to stop her Camino. She said she's young enough that she can come back and finish ... read more

We are in Los Arcos tonight. Tomorrow in Viana. It was another day progressing on the Camino. Today reminded me of Saskatchewan with the exception that there were more hills than where I grew up. There were the John Deere tractors working the fields, hay bails and lots of summer follow. Great orchards of grapes, which we sampled, so we know the next wine crop will be a good one. As far as wine goes, we bought a bottle on our way into town. The lady tried to sell us the most expensive one but I figured we are in wine country so I bought the cheapest which was mighty fine. Also, we'd enjoyed some free wine early in the morning at a bodega where they have a wine fountain especially for passing pilgrims to toast ... read more

30 August 2015, Sunday, stage 7 GPS: ? August 30, Sunday. Los Arcos to Viana. Left at 7:20, arrived 12:52. Paddy's Gang It is a shame that I must abandon my pursuit of a Hemingway, look-a-like beard. But now that I have a razor and a wife who insists it only makes me look like a scruffy old man, I have shaved. What do you think? Today we travel through arable farm land with steep climbs up and down river valleys. We have found these to sometimes be very testing due to rocks that easily slide under your feet. I count three river valleys on my map but my feet insist there were five or more! We are down from our fifth floor suite, no elevator to heaven, early as I (Karen here) has been awakened. ... read more

Route: Villamayor de Monjardin - Viana Hopefully this works today. The previous days I have had difficulties to get on the website and to complete some information. I think it has to do with age of some of the "ordenadores" (the Spanish name for computers). Today was the longest up to now. Almost 8 hours and 32 km and this just passing three villages. Long walks without seeing anybody and steadily going up and down. The weather could not have been any better. Sunshine the whole day with temparatures around 15-20 degrees. Windy all the way. We were "kicked" out of the albergue at 7.30. That is the way it works in these albergues. It was still dark, but fortunately we had a full moon so getting lost was difficult. I managed to leave my walking ... read more
