**Pictures of my precious little Spanish students!** http://community.webshots.com/album/548747710ORRMpU Me encantan los ninos espanoles (I love Spanish children)! Today has been a roller coaster day. When my alarm went off this morning I swear I had been asleep for only 30 minutes at the most, but it had actually been 8.5 hours. I think that the lack of sleep and the transition in time is catching up to me. I really haven't had any time to just sit and unwind for a few since I've been here. I taught a lesson this morning to 6th graders. It didn't go bad, but it wasn't great. Not that I was expecting it to be. It is very difficult for me to speak in Spanish without really thinking about what I'm going to say while standing in front of 25 ... read more

Hey guys! I hope everyone is doing well. I am sooo ready for everyone at IU to come back from spring break so I can talk to yall more and hear about break! I miss yall a lot...especially my roomie...its kind of lonely at night sitting in my room. I'm not able to watch you do Kathy Smith :( When yall get back, I really want to hear from you! I'm not going to write much now because I really need to get some sleep. It is 12:15 am here and I'm waking up at 6:30 to catch a train to Madrid for the weekend with Emily and Rachel. We are meeting Ryann at the airport on Sunday morning. This has been a very looong week...very exhausting and draining, but I love it all at the ... read more

Hey guys! I hope every one is doing well. Spain is amazing-I'm loving it here, but it's definitely very challenging as well. I'm a pretty social person and I enjoy meeting new people, especially people from different countries, but it is soooo hard to speak Spanish all of the time and listen to conversations because they talk so fast (normal speed to them). Plus, it seems like every building and room that I have been in in Spain echoes every little sound...I don't think I've been in a place yet that has carpet, so sounds aren't absorbed at all. So this makes for a very difficult task of straining to hear someone talk to me when I am already straining to listen when it is quieter! Haha! But the people here are very patient and kind. ... read more

Hey guys! I hope yall are doing well! Thanks for the messages that yall have sent so far! Its's fun to get them and be reminded of home. Things have been crazy since I got here. I flew out of Atlanta at 6:45 pm on Sunday and got to Madrid at 9:05 am (8 hour, 20 minute flight). I am now 6 hours ahead of you here. I then had to take a 2 different subways to get to the train that took me to Avila. I then took a taxi from the train station to my residencia (the place that I am staying). I finally got settled into my room around 2 pm, so to say the least, it was a crazy trip to get here. I met up with 2 of the other girls ... read more

Hey guys! I'm finally in Avila after a very long flight/walk/train ride/and taxi ride, but thank God that I made it here safely and without too many complications (after leaving the Atlanta airport). Once I got here, there wasn't anyone to be seen. I walked and waited around for a bit to see if I could find the person who is supposed to work at the front desk, but no luck. So I tried to call home to waste some time so that I wasn't just sitting in this huge, echoing room by myself, but no luck again. Finally, I met the guy who works at the front desk and he got me settled into my room. I tried to strike up some conversation with him, but going without sleep for over almost a day makes ... read more

Wow! What a day! Just got back from a wonderful day of sledding in Navacerrada in the Sierra de Guadarrama mountain range 1 hour north west of Madrid. In case you haven't been following the weather it has been snowing all over Europe for the past week and Spain is no exception. Let me tell you, it was coming down thick today and it was freezing! So, I headed up this morning to Navacerrada with a group from the school where I work. The school provided the sleds and the transportation so all we had to do was show up and pay for lunch. It was great! We spent the morning sledding down a slope almost at the top of the mountain. We were like kids again, making sled trains and running over people. It as ... read more

Buenas noches! This is officially the first night I've stayed in this entire week (and it's Saturday...how ironic). But, I'm feeling a little tired and I want to wake up early for mass at the Catedral de Toledo in the morning. This has been quite a fun couple of days. On Thursday night I finally gave the nightlife of Toledo a try and spent the WHOLE NIGHT (until 7am) hanging at La Bove for sangria and then dancing the night away with some of the Puerto Ricans and Don Juan (my fellow party-going domer) at the Circulo del Arte (a club in an old church) and Ciclo (or something like that). Both were lots of fun and I think that my newest favorite form of exercize is discotecas. :) I was up late enough to take ... read more

So I woke up this morning at 7:00, to leave by 7:30, so we get to the train station by 8:00 for an 8:45 train ride. It was a 2 hour ride so I got to sleep a bit, but it was uncomfortable. So my suitemates, this girl named Jenny, and I went to Salamanca. When we got there, we went straight to the old Plaza Mayor and got some breakfast. Because I don't drink coffee, I'm always getting Hot Chocolate, which is no shame. It so good! It's actual melted chocolate!! I'm sure it's not the best for my health, but you only live once, right? So yeah, then we walked around town. It was cold and we didn't want to spend a lot of money so we looked at a lot of architecture. You ... read more

Today we ventured to Segovia with school. An hour and fifteen minute trip north of the city. This city is representative of why I chose Spain. The beauty and history of the city is not only long traced, but very rich. The city has moorish or middle eastern influence. This can be seen in Alcazar, the fort and other architecture such as this. Also, this castle was the inspiration for Cinderella's castle in Walt Disney World. The city also holds the best remains of any Roman Aqueduct system. Can you believe that there is no cement holding it together! Just the blocks. The cathedral has to be the most beautiful church I have ever seen. The alter is crusted in gold. The ceiling is a tower of gothic inspiration. I'm so tired!!! Now I'm back here ... read more

Apparently Spain doesn’t seem to believe in school. This Tuesday and Thursday are holidays, so the students decided to vote to have a “puente” or “bridge,” as in a 10-day weekend! A couple friends and I had planned on renting a car and road-tripping around Spain, but by Sunday morning we still hadn’t convinced a homeless man to let us use him (yeah…you have to be 21…and I thought I was a grown-up here…), so we hopped on a train to Salamanca, home of the oldest university town in Spain. 9:30pm-4:30am: Horribly uncomfortable and cramped bus ride. 4:30am: Here we are Salamanca! Where are you? Of course we had no plans and not even the bus station was open to provide us with shelter. 4:35am: Our first roof! Okay, it might have been inside of one ... read more
