Hey guys! I know that yall are getting excited for school to be out! Time goes by so fast!!! Let me know the exact date that yall are done with school! Have you gone on all of your field trips yet (to the baseball game, the park, etc)? How was that? That would have been fun to have been there to go with you all! Tomorrow is my last day in Avila. I'm leaving in the evening to go to Madrid and then I'm traveling for about 3.5 weeks! Some of my really good friends are coming over in a little over a week! I'm really looking forward to seeing familiar faces! I'll be sure to update as often as I can while I am traveling, but I cannot guarantee that I will be able to ... read more

When I think back, it seems like its gone soooo fast, 2 months, but it also seems like I started here such a long time ago. I'm definitely ready to be done with teaching, even though I'm really going to miss some of the kids. It's just time to move on again with life, you know? I'm really excited for what I have coming up over the next month. I'm leaving for Madrid tomorrow with Rachel, then its off to Granada (ahh, I'm sooo excited for this), Cordoba, and Marbella (a beautiful beach place). THEN Matt, his sister Beth are coming and we'll all be ... read more

Hey guys! This has been a pretty good weekend so far. I haven't done much today at all. It's gone by pretty fast but thats cause I went to Madrid yesterday to go shopping-yay- and meet up with a few people! This is my last weekend in Avila and I cannot believe how quickly it has all gone by. There have definitely been moments where I thought it would never end, but for the most part I have loved my time here. I have learned so much about myself, what I am capable, how I handle situations, being out of my comfort zone---waaaay out of it, becoming more independent, etc. The list could go on, and so I am thankful that I've had this opportunity to grow in this well as well as really experience the ... read more

Hey guys! I just was thinking about some funny things that have happened during my time here (or the other girls I'm here with) so I thought I'd share them. There's really too many funny things that happen each day because of the language barrier and the fact that I'm around kids, so its just natural for funny things to happen. Yesterday I walked into the 4th grade classroom and they all started screaming "Amy! YAY! Amy!" and they were cheering and clapping really loud. Some even gave me a standing ovation. Haha! It was hilarious, but a bit awkward. I felt like a celebrity, but I don't know if I really enjoyed it. I like that the kids like me, of course, but its just weird to walk into a classroom and have the kids ... read more

A solo trip to a nearby pueblo was just what I needed on the last day of my four day weekend. At the Atocha Renfe station, a nice man recommended Avila. I hopped on a train and set off. When I arrived in Avila, I was, at first, disappointed. The pueblo was quiet and lifeless. All of the town, save a cafe or two, was completely vacant. Where were all of the Avilanos? I decided to take a walk near the Muralla, the old wall that fortressed the city in days of old. I was surprised at how closely the villagers live to the historic wall. Just feet away from the wall are casas full of life. Children playing, laundry hanging. Ahead of me I saw a woman walking two perritos. I approached slowly, not knowing ... read more

Hey everyone! I am sorry that it has taken me this long to write again! Things got kind of busy here for a week because my professor from the Overseas Program was visiting us here! It was so good to see her and a lot of fun to show her around Avila and my school. She was very impressed with how all of us are doing in Avila and at our schools! The past few weeks here have been very nice considering the amount of vacation time I have gotten. As you all know, I went around Europe for a little over a week during my Easter break. Last weekend I had Monday off and this weekend I have off Monday and Tuesday. The past 3 holidays have been for saints who are famous to Avila ... read more

Viva the Spanish holiday! Hombre, do these people know how to take vacation seriously. Only two weeks ago was Semana Santa, and here we are with another four day weekend. Monday May 1st is Dia del Trabajador for the whole country, Tuesday May 2nd is the Madrileno celebration of El dos de mayo (commemorating the Madrilian uprising against Napoleon), Sunday May 7 is Dia de la Madre (signifying that no one will work the following Monday), and Monday May 15 is the day the Madrilenos celebrate Madrid's patron saint, San Isidro. Even though it's the day of Mexican independence, it wouldn't have surprised me if the Spanish celebrated Cinco de Mayo, just for another excuse to have a fiesta! To kick the weekend off right, Tracie and I took a day trip to Segovia on Saturday. ... read more

***Segovia pics: http://community.webshots.com/album/549934468EaDBLM Hi everyone! Rachel and I went to Segovia today! It was about an hour bus ride from Avila. The weather was absolutely perfect today and it made Segovia so much more beautiful than it already is! I loved it and had such a great day! The normal Amy who isn't super depressed is back (finally)! Thank you to everyone who prayed for me..it helped a ton and I'm so thankful to be out of that rut I was in. Anyways, once we got to Segovia we walked down this road that Ryann, one of the other American girls I'm here with, recommended that we do because we can get some good pictures. It was such a pretty view, however, I had some difficulty getting there...There are these big concrete stumps that are on ... read more

we begin today with a little story. our story is set in cadiz spain where we are as i write. but first lets go back about a week or so to cinque terre located on what is considered to be the italian rivierra. cinque terre is made up of 5 little towns on the coastline that can be visited by hiking or taking the train between each town. we set out to see all 5 in the morning but after seeing 3 we decided that as beautiful as they were, they did not compare to amalfi coast. i, in true stacey fashion, suggested we take advantage of the sun and beach and lay out for a while. so back to the first town we went and bought two swimsuits and towels. they were actually quite cheap. ... read more

last time we had our one sided chats we were in athens. oh the places we´ve been since then. from athens we took the fairy and headed to cinque terre, the italian rivierra. we ended up traveling for a total of 32 hours straight. literally our bodies were traveling as we just sat there for 32 hours. anyway. cinque terre began with a car ride from the campsite we had booked with just a little outside of town. most of the time we decide which place to stay based on their location rating. this particular place had a rating of 91% and although there was a risk that we might be indeed camping, it was worth the amount of money we´d be saving. we began to wander how it got this rating as we were driven ... read more
