While everyone else in the lab was freezing cold in Cambridge, I was sunning myself in Lanzarote with Charlie. The weather was even better than predicted, but I did get a little bit too warm when I went to visit the Timanfaya National Park and ended up on the volcano grill! The ground is very hot in that area and a barbeque set up over a hole is hot enough to cook chicken (and me). I also went to the Jameos del Agua caves, created by the outside layer of a lava flow hardening into rock while the molten lava in the middle continues to flow, making a tube. In these caves live a species of blind albino crab, which are otherwise found only very deep in the ocean. You can see me here by a ... read more

After a quick four hour plane ride to the northwestern coast of Africa, Lloyd and I arrived on the beautiful Canary Island of Tenerife. The weather was flawless upon our arrival. We decided to live by the seat of our pants and arrived without one reservation to stay. So we rented a little speedy Seat Altima and sped around the windy roads of the island hoping for an opening in a "casa rural." Just our luck, they were all taken... apparently it pays off to plan ahead. As the sun started sinking behind the mountains, we came to terms with the realization that we may be spending the night in our car. Luckily we found a dingy hotel and set up shop for the night. We spent the better part of the week exploring the island. ... read more

Hallo allemaal! Donderdag besloten we ... read more

Early this month we hopped on a plane and headed over to the Canary Islands for 10 days. They are a group of Spanish islands, but are off the coast of southern Morocco. We visited three separate islands while there; Fuerteventura, Gran Canaria, and Tenerife. Fuerteventura My friend Stephan had recently moved to Fuerteventura and opened his house to us to stay at during the 3 1/2days we were there. Though Fuerteventura is a bit more remote and not as frequented by tourists, this was our favorite island! Upon our arrival, we met with Stephan (who was at work), picked up our rental car and set out to start the explorations! We drove north along the coast until we reached the sand dunes. They end where the ocean begins. I think we read somewhere that the ... read more

Hi Everyone, Have had a good ten days in Gran Canaria, the weather has been really good - sunny most of the time. We are staying at the apartments about ten minutes from Puerto Rico. Nothing much to report really we have just been relaxing by the pool and getting a bit of a sun tan. We did go on the ferry to Puerta de Mogan which is a lovely harbour village. There is a busy harbour with lots of boats and all the houses have flowers in the window boxes, it is very pretty. On the way back on the ferry it was really windy and I lost my sun hat to a big shout of Oh! from everyone on board. Well gutted, it was new so having to make do with my cap for ... read more

Oh my gosh. I have been to so many places and seen so many things. I found out that i could print that guide out from the website One Planet Travel and have carried it around with me every where. Where i plan to go next i am going back on that website to print off the hand book of information because it is a god send. I went up mount Tiede and it was amazing. We walked up and then watched the sunset and drove back down. What a sight that was. I also went to Loro Parque which was cool and i knew how much money to bring as it was all in my little guide. The dolphin show was totally out of this world. I am so excited there is so much more ... read more

Matt: After four months of living in the UK during winter, newly arrived Australians often find that they crave three main things: 1) The feel of warm sand between their toes (for some reason, the muddy flats of the Thames just don’t seem to be enough); 2) The sight of amazing scenery (quaint and cute as it is, Britain’s landscape lacks the wow factor - it’s more ‘oh’ than ‘WHOA!’); 3) A good dose of vitamin D (during winter, the sun literally goes missing for months at a time). This weekend, Ed and I found the cure to all of these little problems - a four day trip to Tenerife in the Canary Islands, which are a few hundred miles off the west coat of Africa… Unfortunately, our flights with BA left from Gatwick which is ... read more
