Geo: 28.9264, -13.7933I had a horrible nightmare last night. I dreamed that a giant cockroach crawled into bed with me. I was terrified. But then it became a blissful dream - it turned out that it was a giant female Spanish cockroach. It began tenderly caressing me, gently nibbling on me with its mandibles, and whispering sweet nothings to me in a sexy, sultry, southern Spanish accent. But then it bit my head off. These d@mn beds are so short in Spain! I couldn't even fit between the arms of the sofa bed - Ha took it instead for fear of B&H waking up to find my strangled, lifeless corpse in the living room. We made some Serrano ham and Canarian cheese sandwiches for lunch later and headed out the door. It was a quiet walk ... read more

Europe » Spain » Canary Islands » Tenerife December 22nd 2007

Saturday 22nd 1145 am UK 1045 am Ship. Made our first stop yesterday after three full days at sea. We stopped just for the morning in Tenerife. The weather has begun to get better, 17 degrees when we arrived and it rose to the low twenties in the afternoon. We were greeted by a group of singers and dancers, but no brass band as there was in Southampton. I done the wrong thing in the afternoon and stretched out on the deck, not realizing how strong the sun was, and yes, you can guess the rest. We did our usual mile around the deck this morning and met a couple of Australians who are on a six month holiday; how nice to be wealthy. We are at sea now until the 28th, so hopefully we will ... read more

Before we planed our trip to Tenerife we had made lots and lots of inquiries regarding the places we should see but especially the roads as we intended to rent a car and I was supposed to be the driver. From the images on Google Earth the roads looked ok, mountains, curves, steep slopes but still ok. I felt confident and ready to prove my skills. What the hell, I had been driving 3,000 km in Crete! (for those who don’t know, in Crete roads are narrow, I mean very narrow, you have to guess the direction as sometimes the crosswitches, if they are, indicate the same place in 2 opposite directions, the drivers can stop their cars in the middle of the road for a chat…). So, the first day in Tenerife was excellent (if ... read more

A one day trip by ferry to La Gomera which, by the way, I didn't know that in Arabic meant 'small firebrand' (according to Wikipedia Encyclopedia). We took the ferry from Los Cristianos in one October early morning. A small island with narrow streets, nice painted houses, friendly people, calm life... Pitty we hadn't time to explore the whole island. Maybe next time...... read more

I’m pretty sure that everything interesting about this island was already told as Tenerife is the best known and the most visited from the Canarian islands. On the other hand I am convinced that no matter how good narrator you are, words are not enough to describe the beauty and greatness of this island. I myself had read a lot about it, had seen lots and lots of pictures and felt prepared to meet Tenerife. Well, believe me, I was not! From the first day until the last one I lived in a continuous state of bewilderment, I was like a child left alone in a toys shop. You simply can not capture either in words or on photos the amazing beauty you find all over the island, no matter if this refers to the multi-coloured ... read more
