We have a cocktail party at 11am to meet the captain today, we slept in till 10am, rats missed breakfast, got dressed in our casual but tidy went to the Top Sail Lounge for vodka martins, salmon, salami and caviar canapés, no don't have to worry about me wanting that again I can't see what all the fuss is about, we had quick chat with the captain, Lexie asked him couple of questions but he has limited English so didn't understand, we had photos taken. It was raining, thunderstorms again. We arrived at Palma da Mallorca at 2.30 pm but we don't leave port until midnight so we got changed and got a shuttle bus to the port of Mallorca, another beautiful place, we arrived and hired Segways then the rain came, it was wet but ... read more

Minorca or Menorca (official name) is the second largest of the Balearic Islands, located to the northeast of Mallorca and is the least overrun and most tranquil of the Balearics. Due to its unspoilt beauty, it allows the more adventerous the opportunity to discover new charms and experiences. Despite its smaller size among other Spanish islands, the number of beaches that Menorca has equals the number of beaches that can be found in Mallorca and Ibiza combined. The possibility of having a beautiful beach largely to yourself in the summer, combined with alfresco dining and peaceful holiday resorts, makes Minorca a highly desirable place to visit. The peak season in Minorca is from end of June until the beginning of September, being the first two weeks of August the most crowded time. However, the touristic season, ... read more

Geo: 39.6078, 3.01197Wow Mallorca, what an awesome place!! Its difficult to think of what it didn't have to offer. What did it have to offer? Beautiful mountain and coastal scenery, fabulous food, great beaches, historical market squares and ancient architecture, quaint and quiet villages and farms, friendly people. Sure there were alot of tourists in some parts and some of the most picturesque bays were crowded beyond belief with English holidaymakers. So its not perfect by any means but we certainly enjoyed our time there and could definitely have stayed longer. Admittedly it didn't go that well at the start. Our flight was delayed by well over an hour leaving Prague so we didn't land at Palma until about 10pm. Our bags took about another half an hour to appear on the carousel. At this point ... read more

Total distance travelled from Santos: 5837 nautical miles We had made an executive decision to stay on board and mind the ship!! It was hot. 36 degrees C. Peace at last!! Roisin and I have both visited Valencia before and all we'd be doing is the 'same old, same old' walking around the gothic quarter and paying $19.90 each for the privilege of being taken in to the city centre. It made a pleasant change to walk around the ship and not have to negotiate over-keen and over-enthusiastic Brazilians!! Stick a few Goths in the Safari lounge and the ship would even have its very own Gothic quarter!! The air temperature was in the mid-30s (centigrade) which is not ideal for city sightseeing. We have been ashore at a different port for the last six days ... read more

We are a family of four with 2 teenage girls aged 15 and 17; reasonably well travelled,we have been to Japan, several place in the states, toured the islands of Thailand as well as may places in Europe too. We decided that we didn't want to do long haul but after the previous holiday to California we weren't sure what could live up to that amazing holiday. After weeks of research as to where to go in Europe we finally decided on Ibiza. But to which resort?? We wanted to avoid any resort that the package tours used. We always book independently as we like to mix with the locals. Finally we decided on Talamanca: it offers a pretty beach, is within walking distance of Ibiza and has a pretty cool marina nearby too. We were ... read more

First sailing blog of the year! It seems ages ago that we were giving Disco Volante her winter make-over in Malta. Since then we have sailed from Malta all the way to our present location in Palma Mallorca, sailing 708nm in a month. The sailing has certainly been a mixed bag – sometimes motoring into headwinds (not fun) for 12hrs, other times ripping along at 9kts in almost perfect sailing conditions. We have had sleet, rain, brilliant sunshine, cloudy days and even a gale. I am definitely getting a sailors tan – brown face and hands! Admittedly we have been quite adventurous setting out on our long sail back to the UK in February. Most sailors don’t set off until late April. But we have been careful and left lots of weather margins, so even when ... read more

"Colombia? Estas muy loco? " said my Colombian born, now Spanish resident, taxi driver on the way from Madrid airport to my hotel for the night. " Es muy Pelligroso". Arriving from Ibiza, where I now live and work as an English teacher, I asked him to take me to the Casa Bellvista hotel, as I had booked a hotel for one night before jetting off to Bogota in the morning. "It's very close to the airport" I told him showing him the address and name of hotel that I'd written down on a piece of paper. "Never heard of it" was his reply. "Ni Hotel ni direccion" I re-checked all my emails. "Si, Hotel Casa Bellavista, Carrea 20 #12B" I said. "Ah -I read on... Bogota" ,This was the hostel I've booked when I land ... read more

How time flies, another month has gone by with no blog. We have been busy though, our busiest month for visitors since we set sail back in June. We have really enjoyed seeing our sailing life through others’ eyes. Sailing is certainly highs and lows in the Med. A lot of motoring when there is no wind and we potter along, drink in hand, then other days, out of nowhere the winds pick up and we have a spritely glorious sail. But there are also some rough days with buckets of water hitting us in the face, lunch at 35degrees and the odd green faced friend. Luckily regardless of the winds, most days are sunny and hot – which helps. Being cold and wet sucks on a 12hr sail. It’s fair to say we have had ... read more

Tuesday 26thAug – Cala De Port Roig We finally did it – Disco Volante was built with this goal in mind. All the cold wet days in Wales & Bristol, Mike spending weekends building the boat instead of going out, me sat in the saloon seeing my own breath, wishing it didn’t rain into my lounge when I opened the main hatch, the financial sacrifice – now it makes sense – after 9 years of toil we had arrived in Ibiza!!! We sailed past the Isla Vedra – A bit of a hippy pilgrimage point, especially to watch the sunset. We sailed past and our energy soured… Now just a small matter of the overpriced Ibiza Marinas, crowded anchorages & super yachts getting in the way… Mike had spotted a nice little anchorage called Cala De ... read more

Palma de Mallorca 2014 This trip was something different for me, I went on it with just my dad, that wasn't the original plan, he was meant to go with his partner but in the end she couldnt make it and the place was offered to me ;) and who could say no to that? We hired a car, so pretty much travelled all the island in the week. Driving on the other side of the road was fine but going around a round-a-bout the wrong way is very strange! haha ~ its like your brain tells you not to do it :p We got used to it after a few days, though I still often opened the wrong door and accidently sat behind the wheel lol oops ;) We stayed in a lovely hotel in ... read more
