Catching up on Blogs - moreover a record for H&H for the future - and realised we had missed this one from last summer! Headed out there a bit too early this time around - the weather was nice, but swimming pools and sea hadn't quite warmed up! A nice little break, but learnt a bit about holidays with kids. All inclusive deals are great - but the novelty wears off after a few days (we were there for 10)! Eating is a huge part of a holiday, and without the need to go to restaurants or cook there seems to be something missing! Kids clubs are good - but they need to be at the same time - we spent most of our time working out when to drop off and pick up (H&H ages ... read more

Winter is finally over; not that it was long here in Majorca, but it was cold. I haven't been so cold in my own house for... ever! Luckily we have a chimney, but Majorcan houses are prepared for the heat, not the cold, so from December to April everybody cuddles up in front of the fire and waits for Spring. Majorca looks great in Spring: all covered in green and full of flowers everywhere; shame they won't last long, as soon it will be too hot to bare. This is the thing with this island: it goes from very cold to very hot nearly from one day to the next! To me, this is the best time of the year to be here, so we are making the most of it before it gets too hot ... read more

Has it really been two years?!?!...Well, we've been dormant for a while, but that doesn't mean we haven't been anywhere, but because we've been to places where we've been before, we haven't blogged about them (mainly Spain and Germany) However, we've been busy having a baby! Ella came to this world on the 29th of January 2013 and we couldn't be happier: she's healthy and fit and she came with her climbing shoes and diving mask ready to use. That's one of the big news and the other is that, after more than 10 years living in England, we've moved to Majorca!... we got tired of the long, dark winters, the snow, the traffic jams and being far away from our families... so when Dax got a job offer in Majorca (and even though I was ... read more

2 days of beaches, sangria, sunny, warm weather, and amazing mopeds When we first stepped off the plane that Thursday night, the warmth was exactly what we needed. We were quick to take off our London rain jackets and slowly walk to the terminal to take everything in that we are in Spain. While everyone at Harlaxton talked about their trip arrangements to Barcelona and how much it would cost, we decided to take a different route. Danika found a previous study abroad blog about Ibiza, Spain that explained how inexpensive and perfect this Island away was. We found extremely cheap flights their through RyanAir and Norweign Airlines so we booked it. This might have been our best money saving trip yet! We arrived to our hotel that was located right on the side of the ... read more

How time flies - having waited months on end to start my gap year, my time in Palma is slowly coming to an end and what a shame too! Palma has been everything we expected and more. This Island in the heart of the Med offers stunning architecture, culture and history and you are almost always guaranteed some sun...we have certainly been blessed with that over the past 3 days. Having arrived in Palma an hour later than scheduled due to the French air traffic control strikes, rest and relaxation (a few beers) has been the order of the day. We caught the bus from the airport (EMT 1) and walked from Plaza Espanya to Plaza Major where our apartment was. We couldn't have chosen a more central hub to spend our time here! I would ... read more

Geo: 41.2357, 1.69233Yesterday (Monday) we 'did' Barcelona - a tiring, 12-hour day, but you just have to do it. We were particularly keen to see some of Gaudi's legacy and the two attractions we visited did not disappoint. We chose to go in by train from Vilanova y Geltru, so caught the bus from outside the site gates for the 30-minute round-the-houses journey to the station. We got on a Barcelona-bound train but it later turned out that our tickets were not valid for this particular network, and sensed that this happens frequently as we were let off by the inspector. On the approach to the city, it was raining, which we had not bargained for so first of all got on the tour bus for which we had purchased advance tickets (sitting undercover rather than on ... read more

Geo: 41.2358, 1.69233Friday morning, we left the delightful little site in the Pyrenees, heading back the way we had arrived a week earlier, towards Perpignan where we rejoined the motorway, but this time in the direction of the Spanish border into Catalonia. Estimated journey time just under four hours and about 170 miles to the resort of Vilanova y Geltru, 30 miles to the south of Barcelona.Other than taking the ferry to Santander a few years ago when we stayed in the western Pyrenees, it must be 35 years (before we married) since we last holidayed in Spain, so this next month or so we shall either love it, hate it or be indifferent. All those British tourists, not to mention those who have made it their main home, over the years have clearly found something ... read more
