We spent the last couple of days trvelling from Bukk national park to the Romanian border. Once out of the hills in the north, Hungary is as flat as a pancake. The bridge over the motorway is the biggest hill we have gone over in 6 hours driving. We have come from one of the best campsites in Hungary in Bukk to the worst campsite in Hungary in Miskolc. The guy running it had the cheak to try and charge us 20 euro (twice the price of the best campsite). After investigating the rusty, filthy cold showers we haggled him down to have the price. Tonights campsite is a 'christian' campsite according to our guilde book, Not looking forward to asking them if there is a local pub to watch the camapions league final. Eldarado When ... read more

Hello ppl Here i am again, with a few hours to spend for me. During the last 3 weeks my life was split in between AIESEC Pitesti, AIESEC Romania and AIESEC Lithuania. Financial management, Conference management, training development, agenda development, match and search tools,.......and so on. But here i am ready to post some pictures from the last conferences that i have attended in Romania. One of them is LTS (Local Training Seminar) made by my Home LC (Pitesti) for new members and the 2nd one is ICPS (International Cultural Preparation seminar). The conferences were great, loads of work and pain but with great results and with a lot of fun...for some. Both conferences were in Olanesti, and i spent 10 days in 2 weeks there. Here are some pictures from the conferences, i will ... read more

"Use the blessed chance - that of being a human - to make the world better, fairer and more beautiful, not only for mankind but for the whole nature!" Herman Oberth - one of the founding fathers of rocketry and astronautics. After 3 wonderful days in Sighisoara we were heading towards Sibiu. Bought ourselves tickets to the mini-bus and 2 hours later there we were! Since Friday the weather was very very hot and the Sunday noon ride was a nightmare - I ve promised my self I ll never travel in a mini-bus (peasants traveling with frozen lambs in their bags, bicycles and what ever u can think of). Sibiu is the European Cultural Capital of 2007 in partnership with Luxemburg and it had to be on my itinerary list. Of course we planned for ... read more

... Life is the road and I wanna keep going Love is a river and I wanna keep flowing, Life is a road now and forever.. a wonderful journey! Veni, vidi, vici.. actually Sighisoara conqured me!... nothing I could write can describe the feeling I had while I was staying there... First thing I noticed when I arrived there was the train station...not very clean and first impression always counts for foreigners. Coming from Bucharest Im very used to crazy taxi drivers who try to overcharge the clients but I was amazed to meet really polite and honest people. It was less than 1 Euro from train station to city center, I gave him 2 Euro and he said: "miss thats too much, I cant accept it"... THAT MUST HAVE BEEN A KODAK MOMENT.... very soon ... read more

We had a wonderful couple of weeks in Romania as you can probably tell by our inability to choose between the photos we have taken (sorry I know there are a lot for this one!) First stop Bucharest what a random city it is! It is Chisinau's grown up prettier sister! By that there are amazing Parisian avenues, albeit a little rough around the edges, but there are also blocks and blocks of communist concrete disasters. It was once called the Paris of the east, a claim made by most of the Eastern European cities we have visited, but after the war Nicolae Ceausescu decided to flatten a fifth of the city to build the ‘Palace of the People’ and a whole area of the city in the social realist style. This sits next to ... read more

Dear All, It has been a while since our last update but in retrospect the pictures, until recently have been rather dull. But now that the dark and stormy months seem to be passing into a spring time we are coming out of hibernation and have some pictures and stories to share. For the most part, life in Odorhei/Undvarhely is increasingly busy. Alecia is deep into the fruit project with Agora and we have had several meetings with various folks in the villages regarding re-vitalizing traditional fruit drying practices and creating some traditional product focused cooperatives. People have seemed quite excited. A cynic might say just because there is a promise of income (though even if this were the only case, who could blame folks subsisting on less than $140/month?) but I think the reality ... read more

It's a lovely spring day here in Bucharest, a perfect day for new beginnings, so I got set to start-up a blog about this summer's travel expedition: Bucharest-Budapest-Vienna-Aachen-Paris-Amsterdam-back home While searching for tips from fellow travellers, I'll post here all the inspiring insights, my top 10s, my must-see lists, well-seasoned with images from local Bucharest. It's nice to have a place to collect all the ideas and then, in August, you read my footsteps while I'll be live blogging from all the wonderful places I'll be visiting. HaHA! Score Tally: Scammers: lots Emma: 1! Romania seems about as corrupt as Bulgaria I arrived in Bucharest train station off the sleeper (read: tired after having been got off the train at the turkish border and kept outside in the cold at 3am for an hour just so I could get stamped out through their damn border controls who are too lazy to come on the train to do their job faster than making everyone get dressed and off the train and line up and stamped and back on the train before they can switch around the carriages and split em up and join em back together so each carriage goes to a different place). And a nice man asks if i need help (i think aha not this time buddy) I say no ... read more

A month ago i was back in Romania and i can say it was a long period of Relax, and i really felt like is taking to long. In 30 Hours i will be on my way out of Romania again. 3 Weeks, 3 AIESEC conferences, almost 2000 miles, 3 capital cities, 3 countries, lots of old friends and even more new ones to come. The funny thing is that i have 30 hours until the train leaves, 6 to sleep, 6-7 for AIESEC interviews, 2 to travel to Bucharest, 3 to pack and take a shower, and the last 10-12 hours are dead because i will have to be in Bucharest. So the next posting will be made from Poland or a train station on the way there ;) i hope i will have ... read more
