Last Thursday November 18 until Friday the 19 I ventured to Lisbon, Portugal...for the night. I went with my friend Stephanie. We met in the airport, this time there was plenty of to get to the airport. Luckily I brought some of my work so I could get it done. But anyways, our flight was at 6:15, and its an hour and a half flight, but with the time difference I was in Portugal by 6:30. We had to go through a custom check, and I was sure to ask about getting my passport stamped but unfortunately they don't do that from Spain. So we worked our way through the airport to figure out how to catch a bus to the hostel. We found the "aerobus" and hoped on and it took us downtown to where ... read more

Sooo, hello my friends. Yes, again, we are alive, and yes, we know we suck. Again. But whatcha gunna do? If you can cast your minds back to our last blog, written approximately around the time of Arthur and his Knights of the Round Table, you may remember that I was writing about our teaching adventures while we were in sunny Crete (I was writing from Crete, we didn't teach there). Even though that was way back when, in the interests of completeness this update is all about our travels in Crete and Portugal, and what we've been up to between then and now (sneak peek: we're in Italy at the moment!). (Also Drew deserves some credit as he did write a bit of this one while we were in Crete, it's just been languishing in ... read more

We flew in from Barcelona to Lisbon airport, mid morning on a Tuesday. A reasonably brief 2 hour flight we were probably the only two tourists in the midst of lots of business men and women - all obviously flying in from Spain to Portugal for work. We hopped the airport shuttle and headed into the centre of Lisbon. We were sad to leave Spain but happy to get to yet another interesting port of call. This was our first time in Portugal for both of us but not our first attempt at trying to get there. Earlier in the year, the Icelandic Volcano 'Eyjafjallajokull' (try and say that over and over) had stopped us from spending a long awaited weekend in Lisbon, instead we both had to go to work on the Monday when we ... read more

October 27-28 Portugal Another sunny day greeted us as we arrived in the port of Portimao. Maybe it’s the cold but I really didn’t see any reason for this stop. I know that tours went out to visit the Algarve Coast and perhaps that is the attraction but the town of Portimao itself wasn’t much to see. I took the shuttle into town, walked around a bit, had a hot chocolate and headed back to the ship. Enjoyed the sunshine by the aft pool and napped. Actually the timing was perfect for me because I got to nurse this persistent cough. Lisbon was another story. The day was warm and sunny. From my verandah I could see much of the city including the pantheon where royalty and former Prime Ministers are interred. Also interred there is ... read more

After 5 lovely days in Lisbon we are in the air, en route to Istanbul via London. My parents, who are flying to meet us from Amsterdam (where they spent 4 lovely days with Thai family partying it up and eating yummy hot Thai food…… why didn’t we think of going there again????) are still there as their flight was overbooked, but they got a VERY decent euro compensation! Anyways back to our story! We arrived in Lisbon on Friday afternoon from Sintra. Our hotel was very central, a short stroll from the metro and bam in the middle of one of the main pedestrian malls in Lisbon. We took a stroll down to Placo de Comercial in the late afternoon to take some happy snaps. And got numerous offers of hash along the way! I ... read more

Lisbon greets us by putting on a thunderstorm with driving rain. Tessa's Portuguese friend Jose is at the airport and its great to meet him. They haven't seen each other for 20 years. He is very generous and helps us with a car and a guide to Portugal and a friend's place to stay. It makes such a difference to have a local friend to help us. Its exciting following Jose's car with Tessa at the wheel of ours. She's sitting on the wrong side of the car, she's driving on the wrong side of the road and its rush hour in Lisbon in the pouring rain. No worries! We stop at Belem and are treated to an impressive display of drumming, marvel at the beautiful old Jeronimos Monastry and try scrumptious famous Belem pastries. And ... read more

For our first big weekend trip, we decided to go to Portugal. This included an original group of 8 (already quite a large group) and I took on the role of logistics planner. We knew we wanted to go to Lisbon, but I had also heard from my high school Spanish teacher, Mr. Armstrong, that Algarve in the south of Spain was also very nice. So, I put together a trip that had us flying into Lisbon where would spend 2 nights and 1 day and then train down to Algarve for two days and a night on beaches and fun. Well, this sounded like such a great itinerary, that more people wanted to go, and by the time we left, we had 14 people venturing off to Portugal. The adventure started with a delayed plane… ... read more

POslednji dan smo malo vise proveli blejuci u hostelu gledajuci TV i igrajuci SPS3.
