Olá Putas, Its been an incredible one week. My BFF LHLAB (best friend love him like a borther) came to visit me all the way from USA. We spent a day in Madrid, two days and a half in Lisboa and a day in sevilla and then back to Madrid. Our sleep schedule was that of a college student during speak break in tits paradise. We drank beers for breakfast, brunch, lunch, mid-afternoon snack, 2nd mid afternoon snack, 3rd mid-afternoon snack. and we took at a break at dinner but for dessert, you guessed it. Lisboa is, insert any adjective for beautfiul here ________. Of course with travels you have to sample the local men. due to privacy laws i cant divulge any information about these men. well maybe just a few minor details Bus driver ... read more

3rd June ‘09: OK, so I'm polishing the trailer. I know it's the sort of thing I'd ridicule Namibian for - and still might, given half a chance - but it looks nicer now. And it's a jolly sort of job in the sunshine, which is becoming harsher by the day. In fact, it's boiling in Portugal, which exacerbates Namibian's leg cramps. Despite tipping shakers of salt on his dinner, he still makes sudden leaps, and yells, as muscles spasm. 'What muscles?' you say, plausibly. He looks as a gnu might after successfully evading a lion, only to drop dead from exhaustion. 'This heat's about the same as in Namibia,' he says, mopping a rivulet from his brow. Heat induces lethargy. So it's a good job I've got ice-cold air-conditioning, then, isn't it? Pah! Those ... read more

2nd June ‘09: Double-drivers make a mess - it's a fact. Jon merrily boards a plane this morning, and I'm left with the detritus of two men sharing a truck. Not only is the cab in a deplorable state - awash with discarded crisp packets and chocolate bar wrappers - but all the cupboards and side lockers look as though they've absorbed a small explosion. In short, things need sorting out. Essential work accessories - my trombone, deckchair, bestselling novels, for example - can now be unpacked, and a semblance of order restored. It's nice to stretch out once more, in my garret above the engine, without encountering a man from Coventry. And with Jon gone, I feel more comfortable about pottering indoors in just a pair of underpants. Talking of pants, I need to ... read more

LISBOA Day 13 I finally made it to Lisboa and found an amazing hostel. I know I have not commented on the hostel conditions up to now as most are fairly similar or nothing to rave about. But this hostel, Travelers House, is amazing. It is a stunning old building with perfect décor and amazing rooms/bathrooms. The staffs are great, super friendly, and very helpful. When I got into my room I had a quick shower, nap, and then headed out to enjoy some of the sunshine and warm weather, 15C. I only walked around for a short while and then headed back for some dinner and a good nights sleep. Two of my roommates were from Quebec City and they recommended that I head up to Sintra to check out the castles there. ... read more

What a long day! But it's been a good day. After our four hour layover in Amsterdam we loaded on to a plane bound for Lisbon. Unlike our flight to Amsterdam, which was practically empty, the flight to Lisbon booked every seat. It was a relatively short flight, just a couple hours, but since it was operated by KLM they fed us, which was nice. I was impressed, too, that I received both a glass of wine and a cup of water without having to ask for both. (Delta should take notes. And I must give a shout-out to Thu, who provided wonderful snacks so that Matthew and I wouldn't go hungry on our first night here. What a life-saver!) When we arrived in Lisbon it was raining and a dreary 47 degrees. The airport was ... read more

after doing all the touristic stuffs of lisbon, we were wondering what we could do for the next few days. we didnt have much time, coz soon we were heading to valencia, once again for la tomatina! and thats when i thought how stupid we were staying here doing nothing when we could have gone to south spain wich is quite cheap to get from here. but anyway, we kept talking and when we realised we were making plans for a big trip. so he went to a friends house to use the internet and in a couple of hours we chose countries, saw prices and basically everything we needed. and thats how started!... read more

About three weeks ago I spent our 4-day weekend (which they refer to as “Puente” or bridge) in Lisboa, and the Costa de Caparica in Portugal. I went with 3 other guys, and I learned from the planning of that trip, or I should say “non-planning,” that it’s better to plan out vacations ahead of time. That being said, everything turned out fine; it was just more stressful than it needed to be. Once we got to the Coast all of the stress related to finding how to get to the coast melted away with that sweet ocean smell and the rhythm of the tide crashing in at night. During the trip, Chris taught the other three of us how to surf. At the outset, he told the three of us that surfing is like a ... read more

Life in Lisbon is lovely. I rolled in at about 2 pm with even less of a plan (or a clue) than usual. I had no map, no hostel res, no cash, and no idea how to say even 'thanks' in Portuguese. I was a sorry case. But, after an ATM, an espresso, and a borderline sexual harassment by some crazy lady at the bus station (I was REALLY sad not to know how to say 'thanks' then!), I felt like I was turning things around. I found a map and got on the metro heading towards what I figured was the center of town, looking for a hostel for a four night stay before flying back to Lyon. The gods were smiling on me that day, giving me the gift of the last bed in ... read more

The weather is perfect - sunlight with a light breeze, and just looking around, you think you might have walked into a period film as your feet traipse on the uneven cobblestone. Some classmates and I decided to jet on to Lisbon for a long weekend, and were very impressed. Lisbon is beautiful and very affordable. Almost the entire city seems virtually unaltered from when it was constructed centuries ago... they just ran some electricity and plumbing through the walls. It's amazing that cars drive down some of the very narrow cobblestone streets that would have been narrow even for horse-drawn carts. Even the trolleys in the tram system look like they're straight out of the 1920s, and they might well be. We rented some apartments in the Bairro Alto district, and spent the days exploring ... read more

Portugal-Lisbon!!! What can I say about the land of sea fearing explorers, cork, port, beautiful Atlantic and Mediterranean coasts, hill top town and villages, warm and sunny weather…It is charming, full of character, old, pleasant, very nice and friendly people…I would love to come back to it and explore the northern parts. Flying over Lisbon, it felt familiar, probably because of its coastline, but it was cloisters of town and buildings on hilltops separated by vacant valleys. I took the taxi to the apartment I rented in the historical Alfama district. Initially, I gasped , when I arrived at San Estvao, Number 4. First of all the taxi driver did not know the exact location, only the neighborhood. He told me he probably could not go to the exact location, and I probably have to haul ... read more
