Hi Friday 16 January time 8.37PM and at the door of my room as internet does not work in my room and the television room is a bit on the noisy side at present.. Breakfast then off to 9.30am Mass....the usual tall Nigerian Priest was not saying Mass but a shorter Portugal priest instead.. one thing I have noticed is that the Masses in Portugal you do not make the sign of peace like we did in Spain.....also here you can kneel to receive communion..... I thought they were two for a wedding...but no.... someone holds a altar tray under your chin... or you can do the normal way which I do... Damp, cold windy so wrapped up well and headed to the town centre a different way..... along the road.... passed the coach museum.... did ... read more

Hi 9.30PM Have had tea so am feeling more alive. Breakfast this morning then could not make up my mind as to what to do s the weather forecast was for rain, but decided to go out anyway...was not too bad but very cloudy. Walked and caught the ferry from Belem to Porto Branwka over three Rio Tejo .Cost two Euro each way and took about five minutes... about eight going over plus a motorbike and about twenty coming off and five cars. Did not have a map but knew I wanted to visit the statue Cristo Rei. So knew I had to keep the water to my left..... so up the hill and found a old traditional church which was open... not always the case.... then found a local fish and vegetables market. With other ... read more

Hi 8.15PM and in the television room .. reception area.. music video on ... not too loud .. Did not end up doing any reading last night as after shower bed was too comfortable as once in bed no point reading as I fall asleep with my glasses on so not a good idea at all. Breakfast at 8am then headed into town.... think it is about 7 km .... looked around and then found the starting point for the two hour free tour of town that lasted three hours.... Here we meet Louie.... a guy in his late twenty perhaps and spoke four languages and enjoyed talking. ... but had plenty to say that was interesting and not a boring voice at all...so the three hours flew by... told us not to pay the 2.50 ... read more

Hi 9.20PM and at my doorway of my room as internet does not work on my bed. This morning up early and tried to get through to Mum but no luck, do will try again later. Breakfast with a Korean lady and had my photo taken with her. Then off to 9am Mass..... which was at 9.30 so over to the water feature for awhile. Entrance is via the side entrance so even less walking for me in the mornings. About 30 people present....with no sermon. Then it was time to walk into town via the water.. a good walking. Cycling track that is well used so easy to follow as if no walkers plenty of cyclists....but it was a Saturday and fine so may be a different story on Monday perhaps. I arrived at the hostel around 8pm. It was an OK transition from Heaven back to planet Earth. Little did I know what was in store for this week around my birthday, celebrated around the world (as New Years Eve). After Black Swan in Barcelona, this is the best hostel in the world. Good Morning Hostel is aptly named, due to the phenomenal breakfast. Every morning, we came down to Tatianna making fresh waffles and paninis for breakfast, plus bowls of fruit, cereal options, juices, milk, teas, coffee… from 7-11—always with enough leftovers to last us through lunch, and sometimes dinner :D If you know me, you must know one of my favorite things in the entire world is free food :D Lisbon is a beautiful city with intricately designed black and white marble cobblestone streets ... read more

LISBON. 21,22,23,24 November, 2014. Our hotel is well situated, one street from the Plaza running down to the waterfront. A huge square with a spectacular entrance gate to the city. We very much like Lisbon. There are bars and open air cafes on most corners and the atmosphere feels like you should live for today, as who knows what tomorrow may bring. This seems to be the feel of the Mediterranean Europe. Lisbon feels poorer than Barcelona however has a real seafaring feel. The buildings are shorter, maybe 5 storeys, some a little past their prime, in marvellous shades of pink, yellow, cream and blue. The city is very hilly, right down to the waterfront. There are small trams plying the streets, maybe 30 feet in length in bright yellows and reds. There are also tuk ... read more

I'm back on the road...and I guess the next 10 weeks will be pretty insane in regard of discoveries....but you know me.....I could as well say the next 10 years... It was first back to school in Bangkok end of August, and I enjoyed three weeks at home. It's fun to actually feel a little on holidays, while at home...taking the time to slow down...and obviously also to plan the next adventures... Than came a fun week in the South of Congo, followed by another fun week in Kinshasa...no entries on those...I don't go out much with my camera...and it's mainly business. Well, Kinshasa taught me something this time...took less than 5 minutes...but I was very close from a kidnapping by fake policemen....as a friend told me...after I told him the story..."you are lucky you know ... read more
