So this morning I woke up and got ready to go to Hengelo to fix this passport problem with 2006 and 2007. Once again, no problemo on the train, and I found the politie station, the same woman was there and she fixed it in 10 minutes. Since it was later than when I was first in Hengelo, more stores were open so I poked around in some neat shops. I went into Xenos, one of my favorite stores, and bought a really cheap umbrella. I figure, if I spend 2.99E on an umbrella versus 7.99E on an umbrella, the wind is going to kill both of them either way. So I opted for a cheap blue umbrella with white polka dots. I didn't have time for breakfast, so I stopped at Bakkerij Bart (the bakery ... read more

On the way to Amsterdam we went via Edam a small village famous for it's cheese & clogs. We also took a bike ride around the village with Claudia and funny little dutch lady. It was much much easier than our mountain biking in Austria and was on what Claudia called 'granny bikes'. We then continued onto Amsterdam and that night went to what our tour guide called a dutch cultural evening. We went to a place called Casa Rosa first with about 40 others from our tour. In other words... A live sex show. We couldn't believe what we were watching. Some of the guys and Jen got to go on stage in what they called the banana show. You don't want to know it involved. We then walked through the red light district and ... read more

Yesterday I got an email from a professor who heard that there was a complaint from an international student who wished his/her class was taught in Dutch...this sounded like me but I wonder who told him. I emailed him back and we set up an appointment for 10am today to chat. He was really nice, offered me some coffee and then I clarified: I was never complaining about my class not being in Dutch because I already knew the circumstances before I attended the first class. He understood and after 15 minutes it was all clear. I rode to the centrum to poke around and realized that it was Tuesday, meaning there was the tuesday market, my favorite! Tuesdays and Saturdays have the same market with the same vendors, but there are less people on Tuesdays ... read more

Am in Amsterdam. Arrived last night and fortunately, almost as soon as I got off the plane and into my hotel, I went out site seeing in the few hours of remaining light. That was fortunate because it's been very, very rainy today. Went out with an umbrella for awhile and walked but finally had enough of rain so decided to journal for awhile. Have also been running long hours the past two weeks trying to see everything and it might be catching up to me a bit as well. Last night, I went walking around getting myself orientated to the city. Canals everywhere. Not quite the same feel as Venice but Amsterdam is a very artistic city. Last night when I arrived, there were several artists still out painting, musicians playing in squares and on ... read more
