The market again
Not an amazing picture, but don't forget who was the one taking it! =) I find this pic kind of funny because the lady was looking right at me Yesterday I got an email from a professor who heard that there was a complaint from an international student who wished his/her class was taught in Dutch...this sounded like me but I wonder who told him. I emailed him back and we set up an appointment for 10am today to chat. He was really nice, offered me some coffee and then I clarified: I was never complaining about my class not being in Dutch because I already knew the circumstances before I attended the first class. He understood and after 15 minutes it was all clear.
I rode to the centrum to poke around and realized that it was Tuesday, meaning there was the tuesday market, my favorite! Tuesdays and Saturdays have the same market with the same vendors, but there are less people on Tuesdays since it's a working day. I wandered around for 2.5 hours and did some errands, buying a birthday present, doing my weekly visit to the H&M store here (I Would seriously buy about 80% of their clothes if I had a money tree).
It's now rainy season. I'm sitting at my desk, looking out my window/door, and there's a steady rain. I'm happy
Specialty cheeses
I love passing the cheese booth and looking at all the big rounds. so cool! Maybe I'll be able to make up my mind one day and buy...a kilo? that I missed it while I was out exploring today. I still haven't bought an umbrella yet - I saw one today, opened it up in the store and it was so weak that one slight gust of wind and I'd be Mary Poppins on a bike, being blown across Europe. Yesterday it hailed a bit too! It's definitely starting to get cold and I'm noticing the large cracks around my door that bring in a frightly cold wind - I'll have to get the landlord to put some rubber moulding around the frame or else I'll wake up one day in a big ice cube.
I returned home and found a piece of mail with my name on it from the Hengelo Politie. Crap, I thought - maybe they changed their mind on the visa...I opened it up and saw the date 03-01-06 written on it....and then after that 6-10-06 11:30. Hm...I knew something was wrong and that the second date with the time meant that I had to go back to the police station. I asked Anouk what it meant and she said the police put the wrong date on my visa. It says 2006 instead of 2007! Whew, of course, a simple matter but kind of a pain to pay for a train ticket again. I also had wanted to go back to Amsterdam on Thursday, but I'll just have to go back Friday afternoon or something, no worries. There are several trains leaving from Enschede to Amsterdam each day because Amsterdam has the main airport.
Not much new, missing family and friends a lot more now. Oh, one thing I forgot to mention: a few days ago, I rode home late at night from campus (safely and lit of course) and I saw a cute baby brown rabbit munching on some grass. A few minutes later my eyes darted to a little shadow about 3 meters from the bike path...a hedgehog! oh my gosh, the cute little thing was sniffling its way through the grass probably trying to find some unsuspecting beetle. About another 5 minutes on the bike and I passed another grassy area and again, another hedgehog! It totally made my night as I personally think hedgehogs are adorable and rare to see out in "the wild." Also, it reminded me of a childhood story that had a hedgehog named Shmoolik who befriended a boy one night and slept in his toy chest that was full of strawberries. One of my favorite stories of all times.
