We had a great flight from Toronto to Amsterdam. Even got real food - no tiny bag of pretzels. We were by the exit so had more leg room but it was cold. They gave us an extra blanket. We were also right be the lavatory and I thought,oh, good. But soon dicovered it was like Grand Central Station. We will attend The Hague Temple tonight. ... read more

Flight good, and weather coolish and windy. Go to the Temple soon. Looked out window of hostel to 'houseboats'lined up in the canal. Look pretty permanent. One has grass growing on roof and a skylight midst it. Buildings rather interesting. Trains trams and buses going everywhere and on every level. A million bikes I guess for rent, outside train station, and taxis lined up. I see a bit of rain on the window now, and we have to catch a tram and than train, maybe another bus to get to temple. Georgina forgets to watch for bikes...thay have a red path, and thay come whoosh on by...I think they have right of way by looks of it. ... read more

Yes, another trip back in time in keeping with my getting our 5 years of living outside the USA onto my blog site. This was originally written in July, 2001 right after we moved to Leiden, The Netherlands. Much happened after that, 9/11 for one and I’ll tell you more about our experience on that day - we were traveling in Ireland at the time. When we returned to Leiden a sea-change had taken place among the Dutch. But that is for another installment; all was ... read more

Geo: 51.9226, 4.47075We went down early for breakfast but lingered over our coffee. We walked to the Hertz office by the training station. Despite a small confusion about reservations, we were soon ensconced in a small Ford. The day was lovely - and so there were many cars on the road. It would have been a very pleasant day for a bicycle tour. We stopped briefly for lunch at a fast food café and again by the beach. The water was very warm - and the bay was crowded. It is amazing how shallow the sea is here. We continued inland through forest and over a hill. Eventually, we reached Rotterdam. We left our car at the (empty) airport, then took the bus to the railroad station. We found a very cheap (for obvious reasons) hotel, ... read more

Our last trip from our home in Boblingen was to Holland. I had been accepted for a job at the U.S. Mission to NATO in Brussels, where we would be moving in July. Joining us on the trip would be my sister Carol, who recently graduated from college and came to visit on her way to Thailand. My Mom also came. She was returning from the States on an emergency health trip with my Dad, whose previously undiagnosed high blood pressure had started to affect his health. Dad returned directly to Thailand, but Mom stopped for two weeks to join us. 26 May 1984 Saturday. We drove from Boblingen to Woerden, the Netherlands, where we arrived mid-afternoon at the boat dock where we would begin our week long journey on a barge through the canals of ... read more
