Hey Everyone! Sorry I haven't updated in ages. I've been busy working a temporary nanny job. Unfortunately I do have to come back to the USA in July mainly due to financial and visa reasons. Bram and I are going to stay together long distance. Once back in the US I'll be moving to Houston with my parents and little brothers to get a good job. However, I've still got a little less than 2 weeks here and some plans to enjoy the rest of this stay in the Netherlands with Bram. We're going on a little trip this weekend to northeast Holland and I'll post photos from it if there are good ones. As you can imagine World Cup fever is alive and well here in the Netherlands. I cheered on "Oranje" (the Dutch team) ... read more

And here I am again.. Back in sweet old Rotterdam :). It's good to be back, in my own city, with the Oude Haven, Kralingse Plas, Koopgoot, de Maas, etc etc. And back in the country of the best cheese of the world, of bikes, of affordable fresh products and alcohol, ... But most of all it's good to be back with my friends and family. However, I must admit, I'm already looking a bit forward to my next travels, starting this September. To be continued..... read more

I never cease to be amazed at how much happens in just a couple of days when you are traveling. Last time I wrote I was awaiting Mel's arrival in Paris and today I am in the Hague, Netherlands. Melissa arrived in Paris on the 6th of June and I think I sprinted to her when I saw her to give her a big hug...traveling alone is interesting in its own way, but nothing beats traveling with a good friend!!! We met up in one of Paris's many beautiful little parks and immediately sat down on the closest patch of grass and just talked about everything that had happened to us in the weeks that we were apart. The tourist crowds are definitely starting to encroach on Europe which made finding accomodations in Paris for the ... read more

We spent the majority of our day in Amsterdam checking out all of the sites. We decided to rent bikes for a few hours and take a look around the whole city. We saw Dam Square, the flower market, Central Station, and all the other famous sites of the city. At one point, I did get my bike tire caught in a tram track and was mere feet from my death. Actually, I was no where near death, or danger for that matter, but I did destroy my toe when I put my feet down to catch myself from falling. Besides the accident, the bikes were an excellent idea, and we got around the city super fast. There is definitly a big biker population, and many bike pathes and laws, but I think we fit right ... read more

Ever since seeing Pulp Fiction in 1994 I've always wondered if Vincent Vega was tellng the truth. That is, whether, in Holland, they actually do put mayonnaise, instead of ketchup, on their French fries. Its been bugging me for the last 12 years and, as no one could give me a conclusive answer, I finally decided to head over to Europe and find out for myself. I began my search for the Truth About the Fries in The Hague, otherwise known as the former home of the late Slobodan Milosevic. Í'll go out on a limb here and say from the outset that I've probably found my stay here to be more enjoyable than that of the late Mr Milosevic. But who knows. He had 5 years and I've only been here for about 4 days ... read more

Yesterday Brenda and I met the devil in the form of Dutch train-inspector. We were minding our own business on the train heading to Rotterdam for the Australia vs. Netherlands pre-World Cup soccer match. The train-inspector (the devil incarnate) walked past & mumbled some obscenities about being Aussie. I am not too sure how he knew we were Aussie or honorary Aussies (Brenda) - the Aussie hats, the Aussie flag that was draped around me, the inflatable kangaroo & my Green & Gold outfit might’ve tipped him off but I’m not entirely sure. Anyway, we arrived at Dordrecht (the station just before Rotterdam) & he casually walked up to us & told us that if we wanted to go to the game we needed to get off. Although I was confused (as the game was undeniably ... read more

Arrived in Amsterdam on Saturday and made our way from schipold airport to a really nice hotel. Leaving England was not as quick as we wanted. We made our way from London to Heathrow airport via the tube and bus and boarded our plane at 4 p.m. However, there was some sort of problem and we sat in the plane for an hour before we got to the runway. As the plane started down the runway it pulled off on a taxi way and we were informed that we had burned up so much fuel waiting that we had to refuel. Two hours later we finally took off. Holland is truly beautiful and we are enjoying the old buildings and history. We checked in on the barge, the Anna Marie Agnes, on Saturday and then went ... read more

Hello Everyone, Sirry about the last post, we put captions on all of the pictures and for some reason they did not upload. We are so busy seeing things that we barely have time to look for an internet cafe. Right now Terry is in a museum and I am quickley writing this as we are to meet in five minutes. It took me the better part of an hour to find this computer. We will post more pictures soon. Brian... read more

Well, where do I start! The flight was really taxing, I think the stop over in Hong Kong was the one that started it all. Rotterdam was relaxing, just spent time with family and, um, relearning my dutch. The hospitality that my family has shown me has been very special and I am lucky to have all their help. First stop was Reims via Belgium. Was a beautiful little city - well what we got to see of it anyway! This area is famous for its Champagne so we made sure that we didn’t go without. Unfortunately the really good stuff was way too expensive and cheaper at home but it all pretty much tastes the same to me - bubbly and wet! Next was Grenoble which was full of freaks and hideaway terrorists, but the ... read more
