Holy crap, taking night trains that only last about 4 or 5 hours is not a very good idea. We could't reserve a direct train to Venice from Munich, so we had to change trains in Verona at 5 am, and got into Venice at 8 or so. The hostel we are staying it is very nice: we each get our own bed (no bunks), we have a private bathroom and its very close to the train station and in a square with some small vendors and good restaurants. Originally when I called about it, they said I had to email them my credit card number along with the rest of the details of the reservation, but I refused and hoped we would still get the room despite not sending that email to them, and it ... read more

Ciao from Italy! I arrived at our "Castle" in Asolo this afternoon. This country is absolutely breathtaking! I can't even describe its beauty in words (English ones anyway ;) I will try to post some pictures so you have an idea. It's absolutely amazing! And the weather is sooooo much better than London. Good bye raincoat, hello Italy!! I just picked up my books. :( I am taking Cross Cultural Management and Service Marketing. There were four books for four weeks. Yikes! Somehow I think I'll manage if I can study in this beautiful town though. :) I've met one roommate and she's great. The other is yet to arrive. We have a BBQ tonight and classes start already tomorrow. I'm so excited to finally be here! The red tape and paperwork are a thing of ... read more

Well Finals have arrived upon me. I don't think I have ever studied this hard in my life and I don't know if I have any sanity anymore. Here I am to take a break and tell you about my grand trip to Venice. Things have been great here at Uni, but I can't believe I only have 16 days till I am back in TX. It is sad, exciting, scary, and a whole other load of emotions mixed together to help with my craziness. Last night I got to be a nerd and got to see the 145 showing of Star Wars. Josh and I talked about going forever ago and I thought I was going to be the only girl, but I wasn’t! Josh's whole block went and it was a great laugh! I ... read more

YEAH Venice- we love Venice!!! And it looks just like it does in the movies, with the gondolas and canals! First we left Rome and headed to Verona, where the real Romeo and Juliet were from. It was a really neat little city, and we even checked out the infamous balcony. After a long drive we didn't do much in the evening just hung around the campground, we mostly stayed indoors as there were MASSIVE mosquitos there. The next am we woke up early and took a ferry over to Venice, no cars are allowed on the islands and Venice is made up of 100 something islands altogether. Our group had a glass blowing and lace making demonstration, both were pretty neat. Our tour guide Anna told us the number one thing to do in Venice ... read more

Just a note to let you all know we have arrived safe and sound in Venice, Italy. We spent a long day of plane travel, and then we all boarded a motorcoach at Malpensa Airport in Milan, and drove in a drizzle rain to Verona. We used the ATM machine and got Euros, ate lunch, and saw the balcony where Romeo sees Juliet and says "Soft - what light through yonder window breaks . . . . and Juliet is the sun." It is 9:30 pm, and we are turning in to sleep off our jet lag - more tomorrow. Diane... read more

Well i arrived in Venice on Monday the 16th and was there till the Thursday the 19th. Venice was just SPECIAL an amazing place where you could just wander and loose yourself. I just wandered for ages each day going down little side allys and just exploring this city and getting lost. Carnival is a huge thing here and the masks are just amazing, although there are quite a few that look like (and i am sure they are) made in China, but the originals were definatley something spectacular. I also went for a ride out to one of the outlying islands "Murano" and this place also was loveley, it was very quiet and not a lot of tourist on the day i went which made it quite pleasant. Murano is famous for its glass blowing ... read more

Oh my goodness! This is seriously my fourth attempt at writing this blog!!! But I had to make sure that I share Venice with you! If it wasn’t for failed connections, or limited internet access, this would have been another story to share instead it’s the same one I have written over and over again so if it is dull this time, I apologize. Actually, Amy, being the genius that she is, informed me that Microsoft Word would be helpful at this point… what would I do without Amy!??? Okay! So Venice was, is AMAZING!!!!! Much smaller than Rome, but with so much personality. We arrived @ noon, after a train ride that lasted only 4 hours. However, it was really confusing to find our way into the coach, and we ended up sitting with two ... read more

A spectacular drive before we waltz into Vienna, the home of Strauss. Travel day today, feel like we haven't had a travel day on the coach in ages. Woke up early (and sober), had a shower and went to check out 'the beach' before breakfast. It was basically the ocean meeting the rocks, not even pebbles. The sunrise was pretty cool though, and it's funny because the water here is like streets, with street lights lighting the way into the city. Had cereal and baguetts for breakfast, then packed everything on the coach, glad to get away from all the mosquitos. I've never seen so many in all my life, I managed to get away with only a few bites though. The views were amazing on our way to Vienna, all the snow capped mountains. ... read more

Our complementary motorboat takes you to St Mark's Square, the Doges' Palace and Bridge of Sighs. See glass and lace-making demonstrations, wander the fascinating canal side-streets and why not treat yourself to a gondola ride. Amazing day in Venice, absolutely loved it. Got up at 6.45, still drunk. Had breakfast of cereal, yoghurt, and omlette thing with bacon, and juice that tasted off (or like cheese and bacon balls according to em). Caught the 8.30 scarfie into town, which took about half an hour. Dave and Nat M spent the trip chucking up off the back of the boat, and thus began Dave's tour of the garbage bins of Venice. Venice is such a cool place, it was built on 117 islands in a virtual swap by banging in huge tree stumps for foundations, then ... read more
