Wow was November a busy month! I'll backtrack and try to pick up on some of what I left out after Salzburg. After a little time to rest from Austria, I headed off to Venice for a weekend. On the way we didn't know you had to reserve a seat even with our railpasses, so we paid 8 Euro more than we would've had to. Oh well. We left at the crack of dawn and got into Venice at lunch time. We dropped our stuff off at the hotel and went to a self-serve place for a quick lunch. I heard food was pricey and not great in Venice so I packed lunches and just bought a fruit cup. The food was as promised and I was glad I had brought mine. Next we went to ... read more

so, i spent most of friday and half of saturday in venice, and i enjoyed myself quite thoroughly. this trip was optional, meaning the school was associated with it, and dr. quinn and emilio went (emilio gave the tour, though), but keri laura and i decided to pass on the whole walking around looking at churches and madonnas with child thing, b/c we've seen a lot of that already. and emilio is always stressed out and in a hurry, and it rubs off on us. i think emilio was a little bit disappointed in us, but it was an OPTIONAL trip, we just happened to go at the same time, and i know we had more fun doing our own thing. our own thing being shopping. so yeah i definitely spent a lot more than i ... read more

A city of water. How can you not love it? The city of Venice is amazing. On Friday, we arrived at about noon and then went straight to Saint Marks Square. The weather on Friday was amazing. Blue skies, 70 degrees.........Like I said, amazing. Friday night we went for a walk just to get aquainted with the city, then we were all pretty much worn out so we just went to bed. Saturday morning we woke up bright and early for a day of Island jumping. First we went to Torcello to see some of the original churches of Venice. After Torcello, we went to the island of Murano. Murano is famous for glass blowing. After a few hours of walking through stores, watching the glass blowers, and some delicious pizza, we headed back to the ... read more

yay! we have finally made it to Venice. This is our 3rd country in 3 days! Monday was Scotland, then to London later that day, and tuesday was london all day, and now Italy! It is so beautiful here with all of the waterways. No roads! just walking and boats! It is so unique. We got lucky with an apartment with 3 bedrooms for the 10 of us, the people who planned this week trip to italy with our professors approval. It was only 22 euros a night person for this apartment. I guess i shou;d mention our spiral staircase, and the bidet in the bathroom haha. On friday we leave for Rome, cant wait, and i cant beleive im actually here. It feels fake. p.s. not tourist season, so only a few americans here, no ... read more

This morning I was hungover, never really been hungover the whole trip before, but today I was. Jules seemed a bit worse for wear too, but today was going to be tough. We had a fairly late start and lugged our heavy oacks down the stairs and got prepared for the trek up the hill to the train station. Breakfast this morning was the usual, croissants, cheese and 4 week old meat cutlets...no thanks, not today... We trudged up the hill to the train station, where we had to wait over an hour for our train. Today we were going to catch a slow train to Milan, then a faster one to Venice. It was raining again, and passing time on platforms can get pretty desperate, so Jules and I played our usual round of 'dares'. ... read more

So we have left Barcelona, taking a night train and arriving 2 days ago in Italy in Milian. We quickly looked around but found little of interest. We stayed one night there and then got the train to Venice where we spent the night last night. We saw alot of the town today but unfortunately could not afford the 70 euros for a 40 minute Gondola ride. We have though been on the boat between the island we are staying on and the main land mass/ bridge connected islands. Its very nice here and our hostel is right on the waters edge. The shops here seem to sell only a few things: Masks, Icecream and Blown Glass. Tomorrow we are heading south to Florence. I will leave you with some photos from Barcelona and Italy. Bye ... read more

After leaving from Florence , now more used to the language (even having some spanitalian conversations) and now almost used to the train sytem we head towards Venice, the first impression a very bizarre (in the good sense of word) a very different view from anything I knew, the channels was amazing, the first thing you see "the big channel" you can made a bad analogy , like a venecian floating freeway, very crowded and strange type of traffic, we take the vaporetto (like a floating bus) to San Marcos Plaza the most important point in Venice the real beauty of the plaza was the impressive gothic cathedral of San Marcos and Tower what an amazing sight, one of the main tourit attraction (kind of silly) is feed the hundreds of pigeons that live on the ... read more

Hey hey! We are currently sat in a lovely camp-site about 20mins outside of the island that is Venezia. I say lovely but we're living in a box and half of Southern England is currently getting lairy in the 'Gondola Pub'. Venice itself has been a much nicer experience. It is my (Dan) first time here and I think it lives up to all thats said about it. Yesterday we did the usual sights including the Rialto and St Marks square. It was in the square that we were accosted by pigeons as Ben thought it would be fun to get some seed and feed them. Was all fun and games and with our nerves bearly intact we went up the bell tower to see a somewhat foggy view. Today we went in a bit later ... read more

The next weekend I went to Venice with Sarah- this is a long story so I will condense it a little but it also has some humorous parts to it. To begin with, we didn’t get out of class until 4:15. Our flight was at 6:30. The drive to Beauvais airport is about 1 hour at the most with traffic, so we had plenty of time to get there. Let’s just say that our taxi driver was a little incompetent. First of all, instead of taking the direct highway to Beauvais, he took a road that runs through approximately 37 small towns, each with many many many red lights. Also, he let buses get in front of us and then stop- not one bus, not two, but at least 4, each of which stopped and let ... read more
