Today we headed back into town. First we had a look inside MarkĀ“s Basillica which was breath-taking. After that we looked in all the shops on a surrounding the Rialto bridge. The day was basically spent strolling, we just loved experiencing the relaxed Venetian pace. In the evening we had a meal at a chinese restaurant (call us crazy but we needed a change) then we found a cafe with tables and chairs right on the Grand Canal with the Rialto above us. We sat and watched and sipped red wine for a good hour and a half. At one stage a gondola cruised by and stopped right in front of us and a gentleman proposed to his fair maiden and everyone cheered from the sides (everybody say awwwww). It was just at that moment that ... read more

We finally arrived in Venice (yes if any of you smart cookies noticed the skip of two days, it did take us that long to get here!) at around 9:30 am. The looonnnnggg ferry ride had not been as bad as we had expected but long none the less. As we approached Venice via the ferry I could tell I was going to love this place. Matt had already been here before but was excited to return. We found our accomodation at Hotel Primavera which was only a short bus ride from the action. We had a much needed sleep and then headed into town and had an amazing meal on the Grand Canal over-looking the Rialto bridge. After that we strolled beside the canals and had some Gelati of course! Earlier we had bought boat ... read more

For those who haven't been I'll have to take back my comment about France and say that Italy is the BEST!!! The food is fantastic, the sights are awesome (great artwork everywhere). All of the men and women are so beautiful that the people on our tour keep falling over themselves staring at the Venetians. I tried quickly on the coach ride over to learn some Italian and already managed to embarass myself by asking a guy if I could have his underwear instead of some change for the soda machine...ooops. We arrived in Venice today and went to Verona the place where Romeo and Juliet lived. It's about 2 hours from Venice. It was fantastic...but my camera temporarily died so I am sadly without photos again until I can get to a bigger internet cafe ... read more

It's raining. The one day we spend in Venice, OUTDOORS, it rains.. or more like.. pours. Our hotel is in the little town of Noale, so we take the morning ferry over to Venice. Venice is so overrated. It's like a big touristy sinking island. Oh, where was I, right, it's raining. Maciek and I go up the bell tower in San Marco Piazza and it's like a typhoon up there. I'm wearing a skirt that day, thinking it was gonna be hot. My skirt is now blowing up and around in the wind, I'm trying to hold it down, Maciek is holding the umbrella, we're being pelted by rain and I snap some photos really quickly before we head down the elevator. I laugh at the people who are eagerly waiting to go up the ... read more

Hi everyone, How's things? Hope you're good. Ok, this is kind of long but actually condensed, because I'm a little tired and hence a little lazy but I'm trying to fill you in. I suggest getting a coffee at halftime so you remain invigorated for the duration of your read :) Ok, due to a few requests of 'so really, what happened in Amsterdam?' I'll provide a few tidbits of what went on, but really, you won't be interested. Don't say I didn't warn you about this one :) Amsterdam is the land ruled by bicycles. Car, tram and pedestrian alike give way to the mighty cyclist. They don't slow down for anyone, and nor are they expected to. I'm actually surprised that there are not more accidents that occur given the number of tourists in ... read more

arighty, so I'm gonna do this in list form: overnight bus to Edinburgh, kinda rough, Layne had to sit next to this creepy guy who ate whenever he wasn't sleeping. he gave me the willies from the row ahead of me. Kinda slept, not really. Thought I was gonna get some major reading this weekend, didn't at all. Arrive in Edinburgh at 7:40 in the morning and go shopping which was a bad idea becuase I had to carry around everything I bought from then on. UG!! Went to this AMAZING thrift shop! SO much fun trying on allll sorts of clothes from every era. Got a jacket and a shirt. One of which is totally out of character for me, but I'm gonna branch out a bit :). Layne tries on everything in the store ... read more

We almost missed the train to Venice because the train said nothing about Venice. So here all three of us running down to the train. Hopping on any car just so we would not miss the train. We had to walk up 5 train cars to get to our compartment. Wow what an adventure. We had a recomendation from the inkeeper for a pensioni in Venice. We will share a room there and for the rest of the trip. We found this way was less expensive. We stayed at a lovely place. We broke down and took a gondola ride. Paulo was our gondolier. I didnt even think about my sprained ankle. Just being their was unbelievable. ... read more

Only 10 days now 'til I pass out many meaningful kisses to a handful of extremely beloved precious faces, tie my shoes, wave bye-bye, and grab a seat on the Bart. I'll put in an hour twenty of abdominal butterfly study on the train to SFO, where I plan to stand in lines interminably. There, at some point, hopefully within a reasonable window of expected timeliness, I shall finally catch some air that will buffet me, gently please and thank-you, across many thousands of miles to Venice, Italy. Well, sort of. First I blow into Dallas Fort Worth. Then London Gatwick. Then, eventually, a million centuries later, into (or, preferably, onto a tarmac located at) Marco Polo International Airport - a one hour Alilaguna boat ride to Venice. Although I will probably -- no, definitely -- ... read more

After Rome we drove to Venice, the city of water, it was beatutiful. We had 2 nights there staying at in cabins at a camp site. After Rome we were hopeful that the weather might be a bit cooler but it wasn't, still hot! The camp site was on the water so the first afternoon we got there Dana and I took a beer and some cheese and crackers down to the water. Our tour guide had warned us previously about not swimming in the water because big cruise liners came past the camp site. She wasn't lying, as we sat there 3 big ships came past. We had fun waving at all the passengers (and booing those that ignored our enthusiastic waves). That night was dinner at the camp site followed by an attitude adjustment, ... read more
