... read more

Wednesday 6 May: I did quite a bit of research about places before we went. What I read about Treviso is that it is quite an affluent city that is making an effort to cash in on the tourism market. It is close to Venice but is not on the tourist trail. To this end businesses have been encouraged to be more tourist-friendly and people encouraged to learn English. Good plan. The lady at our Villa was quite enthusiastic about Treviso, saying it was known as “Little Venice”. So all in all we had some reasonable expectations (you know where this blog is going don’t you?) We arrived by bus and headed over to the train station as we needed to use the toilet and also we wanted to know if they had a place to ... read more

Having been stuck without internet access we have found free, high speed wi-fi in Trevisothis morning. Not much of the city has impressed us thus far, but this has! So, hopefully you have some free time because this blog is a biggie! I'll update again on Saturday morning (Italy time) hopefully! Note there are quite a few photos so make sure you click on "Additional Photos Below" at the bottom of the page. Saturday 2 May: A travel day today. We enjoyed our stay at the hostel very much. Dinner last night was good and cheap and you can buy beer and wine there cheaply also. And for €8 they washed, dried, and folded a load of laundry. All in all excellent value and we would recommend it. We got up at 6am, had an early ... read more

Ok today it's sport day. What do you know about the place we have just visited? I didn't know much but should have being Welsh and living in the land which adores the game played with an oval ball rather than a round one. Treviso is famous for rugby. Also for that lovely Prosecco wine and where Tiramisu was created. One of the my favourite Italian desserts I would eat it anytime. We had planned to pack Suzy up for the day and visit in her but the thought of battening down the hatches to save our space on the campsite for our return felt a touch over the top. We would have to have put our table out in the middle of the plot, spread our two chairs out and even put a washing line ... read more

Hi Guys Wow, not sure how to put our amazing week into words, but will try ;). Our holiday to date has felt like a dream, actually being in the places that you have heard about it but are so far away, it is still hard to believe we are actually here. We left Salzburg on Sunday morning, to cross the border into Italy. Wow, while I have loved visiting every country so far, it has always been about getting to Italy. So much so, that when we came to the border, I shed a few tears when we crossed it. This was a place that I have grown up hearing about, tasting food and wine from and listening and trying to learn the language too. I think the tears were a mix of excitement, relief ... read more

Day 3 - Nice to Treviso We are really glad we decided to wait until today to visit Monaco as it is a lovely, warm sunny day. The drive along the coast to Monaco is breathtaking, one of the nicest roads I have ever been on, with views from the mountains down to the sea and pretty towns below. The only negative is that it's a one lane road and we manage to get stuck behind mr magoo. Greg decides to reinact a scene from James bond Goldeneye and overtakes on a bend. "Why, Mr McWhinie, are you trying to show off the size of your... ego?" we both thought Nice was full of money, but as we enter Monaco it is on a whole new level, even the public toilets look like a 3 star hotel. ... read more

It was an incredibly hot day when we got in to Treviso. After meeting our host Valeria (yes, we just went from Valerio to Valeria!) and her partner Renzo we attempted to stay cool in the house. We started to set the outside table for dinner just before the weather started to change. It cooled down quite a lot and then started to rain. We opened up the windows to cool the house, but then a snap storm hit. It went from light rain to large pieces of hail and gale force winds in a matter of 10 seconds. The wind was so strong it started blowing the large outdoor table across the ground. Chris ran outside and braved the pieces of hale flying sideways past his ears to rescue the crockery off of the table. ... read more

We picked up our rental car at the auto park 200 metres from the Hotel Olimpia. The Ibiza was an upgrade from the smaller car I contracted for. The very newest Fiats and Fords all have USB ports so you may record you music to a key and plug it in. I had a key with files for Jackie, Easy Listening, Driving and other for a total of 17 hours. Both my rentals had radio and CD only - sad for me as the only driver. Getting out of Venice is a pinch. The signage is outstanding and heading north toward Treviso was easy as we had a choice of autostrada or minor highway - we chose the minor highway to see more small cities. In Italy we have a diesel car and we found it ... read more
