Day 1 (Fri): Babymoon is on! We planned this trip beginning of the year with a stealing deal for flight to Rome! Now in November, guess what, I’m 20 weeks pregnant! After confirming with two doctors that I’d be ok to fly, it was on! I actually feel good after the nasty morning sickness subsided. My bump isn’t so big yet either. The only thing is, though, I had to remember: no caffe, no wine, no prosciutto, no fresh mozzarella, and no tiramisu...sad face. But hey, there are a lot that I can eat like pizza, pasta, and pastries. Flight was not the most comfortable but I was more worried about catching germs, staying hydrated, and circulation. I clorox’ed my seat to death, wore compression socks, and made sure I had the aisle seat so I ... read more

Il me dit 20 euros.

Day 5 - From the monuments of the ancient empire, the Eternal City is an unrivaled open-air museum. The tiny enclave of Vatican City is home to sacred sites and priceless art. It was raining the morning of our tour to Rome. We met up with our tour group at the port of Civitavecchia, and was driven to the Vatican in an hour and a half time. At the Vatican, we admired the Renaissance spendors of St Peter's Basilica. As we walked along the streets we saw the famous Swiss Guards protecting the Vatican. From there we proceeded to see the incredible Colosseum and strolled the remains of the Forum. To top off our tour, we visited the Trevi Fountain, a Baroque landmark.... read more

Rome.

We were up early for a last walk around the city. What a perfect day: nice temperature and too early for the mobs. Left Florence late-morning on the “rapido” to Rome. Arrived and checked into our hotel, Ludovisi Palace near Porta Pinciana (and the Borghese Gardens), dropped off our bags and went to one of our favorite restaurants, Vladimiro, just around the corner. We had a long lunch (finishing around 3:30) and took a restorative walk before resting … from the exhausting effort of moving fork to mouth. Out into the evening world for another relaxing walk and early to bed. A nice day, not filled with activity.... read more

Today we got up late, resting from the fun of the Vatican Museum (lots of walking according to Peggy’s Fitbit). But we made it in time to do a Segway Tour with Gabriel. Starting at the Piazza del Popolo we covered a number of the obelisks in Rome, including St Peters, Piazza Navona, Fontana de Pantheon, Santa Maria Sopra Minerva and others. It was a fun filled ride through the streets of Rome. Gabriel chatted us up as we went (turned our the other couple that was to go on the tour changed their plans), sharing his personal story of Rome and the back stories of the places we travelled through. A most enjoyable morning and early afternoon. John wants a Segway! For a late lunch we went to Nino’s which is a stones throw from ... read more
