First trip out of Rome, done. Second trip, coming at you soon. We started out the trip leaving Rome at about 8:00 in the morning, headed to Pompeii. It took about 3 hours to get there by bus. Pompeii was really cool and it was even better when we got the chance to walk around alone for a while. You really got the since of how it was there in 79 AD when Vesuvius blew. There were a lot of buildings completely intact, some that were ruins, and some that had been restored. Beautiful surroundings of Mount Vesuvius and other hills only heightened the atmosphere. An ancient city covered and perserved by ash from the eruption of Mt. Vesuvious in 79 AD. Rediscovered in the 1700's and excavated, the city is well preserved including some of the victims who were suffocated by ash and gases. Plaster casts were poured into the cavities left behind by the bodies, capturing their terror. ... read more

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to All! The Yankee Traveling Road Show is off to Rome, leaving behind a beautiful city that we hope to visit again soon. With its natural sea walls of shear rock jutting up to 100 feet above the ocean, and the colorful stone and stucco homes cascading up the mountain side as they seemingly reach to the sky, it’s really a spectacular place to see. And then, of course, there’re the awesome views of Vesuvius and Capri just in case you should ever tire of the natural beauty of the city itself. The city is small, only about 17,000 people, but it occupies the tip of an entire peninsula, so the impressive scenery virtually surrounds you. Planes, Trains, Automobiles, and Busses —an arduous journey from London to Sorrento, punctuated by moments of breathtaking scenery and defined by a rewarding finish! 7:30—8:00am: Drag luggage to subway station 8:00—9:00am: Catch crowded rush hour tube from Westminster to Heathrow Airport 11:30am—2:00 pm: Fly from London to Milano 2:00—4:30pm: Wait in airport due to flight delays 4:30—6:00pm: Fly from Milano to Napoli 6:30—7:00pm: Catch bus from Napoli airport to downtown Napoli and tote luggage in complete darkness and through wild, congested traffic to nearby train station 7:00—8:15pm: Catch train from Napoli to Sorrento. 8:15—8:30pm: Catch cab from Sorrento train station to hotel. 9:00—10:00pm: Enjoy a relaxing dinner at the fabulous hotel restaurant.
