we traveled down to see pompei with our class and one of our prefessors, Emilio del Gesspi, who is an encyclopedia. we also saw the villa misteria

looking into the courtyard of a well preserved villa and one of the many freindly dogs that helped guide us through the city.

an ancient fresco still on the wall, preserved from the ash.

these are casts of actual corpses frozen in time by the sudden erruption of Mt. Vesuvius.

this guy was curled up in a ball. It was interesting to note how small they really were, none of the bodies we saw could have been taller than 4 or 5 feet.

not only were the bodies and buildings preserved but also the plants. Of course they didn't survive, but they have all been replanted exactly as they were over a thousand years ago. here you can see Mt. Vesuvius in the background.

This is an ancient snack bar, they would serve hot beverages out of these vats to the pedestrians on the street.

a preserved mosaic floor in a villa. the white tiles were used to illuminate thewalkways at night time, reflecting the light from the moon.
